Namor was different because he was the only child who was conceived on land and born in water. His mother consumed plant when he was in womb that made him mutant.
@@alexanderthegreat5649 well they did say pretty specifically that both of the plants change your genes. It’s kinda dumb to assume he was a mutant before rather than that process specifically changing him. It’s like occam’s Razor. They already changed his origin story, who knows which parts are still true. I know the inherent X Gene thing but having one special gene create wildly different effects is dumb besides.

Yeh for sure Kevin Feige said a Namor movie would depend on this (meaning the success of Wakanda Forever) so I hope he sees how much people love Namor and his world
I love how Marvel makes each character that can fly look unique and different while flying like Iron Man, Thor, doctor strange, scarlet witch, vision and namor can all fly but in different ways it's so visually unique man
@@matthewchampion8214 vision is very different, he’s effortless. And he just moves through the environment very differently, like nothing impedes him and he’s always sure of his movement. Dr Strange moves differently because his cape is moving him, it’s very evident in their presentation. And scarlet witch makes herself fly with her hands - she looks like she’s doing something, less when she’s strong but it’s obvious she’s using her magic to do it. Riri was distinct from Iron Man, as is Falcon, as is War Machine, as is Captain Marvel, as is Wasp, as is Star Lord, and Thor, and Mighty Thor. Something is distinct for them all. And why wouldn’t there be, 2500 visual effects artists worked on endgame. If it’s going to take that long and they care that much about it why not leave their mark on the characters. Just cause you are unobservant doesn’t mean the character designers aren’t.
During the funeral, it didn't really land for me until the ship pulled the coffin upright and revealed the crossed arms engraved below the Black Panther mask, almost like one last "Wakanda Forever" from him. That hit hard for me.
Definitely in my Top 10 MCU film. Much better than the first and it was an amazing tribute to Chadwick. Shurri's growth was amazing to see, and everyone delivered. Love music, fight scene and Namor is just incredible. Can't wait to see him more in the future!
Yes. This long time Namor fan loved how he was manifested, full Namor abilities, then this cool, Ancient Mayan version of him was something I liked more than if they had used the ordinary vanilla Namor.
i am obsessed with the score from the first Black Panther. This one is nice as well but doesn't have the same casual listening properties as the first one.
@@jenng7389 true, but there was another level of intensity and softness added to this movie score. For example the siren call of the Tulucan people was so good it gave goosebumps.
The series coming is Ironheart. MBaku wasn’t challenging as leader. He clearly said that Shuri wasn’t going to be joining them that day. I took it as more of a inside joke between them. He wasn’t there to challenge for ruling. I DO think there could be a kind of joint rule with Shuri as Black Panther while MBaku takes care of day to day ruling. They seemed to have an understanding between them. That’s just my opinion on that section.
I feel like the only movie you have to see before this one is Black Panther & knowing Chadwick passed in irl. Which is good for someone who hasn’t watched all the movies or series to this point
I have issues with Letitia Wrights real life views, but man respect where it is due she ( and everyone else honestly) killed it in this movie. Went with my sister and she cried 4 or 5 times. I teared up during two scenes. Very emotional movie. Honestly only second to spider-man for me in the phase 4 of movies. I'd have to let it gestate a bit before I know how I'd rank it compared to the other phases but a great movie.
I’m thinking Valentina or Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross could take over the government & the DODC. They could launch Siege on Wakanda, leading to Talokan & the Avengers getting involved & being outcasted. Also the options for Young Avengers are stacked: - Toussaint - Wiccan - Speed - Stature - Ironheart - Patriot - Kate Bishop - Ms. Marvel - Love - Skaar Spider-Man, White Vision, or Wasp could be their mentor.
It was a very emotional film, for sure. I really liked Namor and I loved that BP films had not missed when it comes to their villains (Altho I can't say the same for their 3rd acts). The score was amazing but tbh I still prefer the first one. Black Panther's introduction for me has been the most intimidating thus far (Close to Thanos). The way he leapt out of nowhere, all black suit (I had no comic knowledge of who he is prior to watching CW) and proceeded to destroy Bucky in hand to hand combat then tank helicopter shots without flinching was very memorable. I just didn't feel that way with Shuri and I was kind of waiting for her training montage or something. She may have combat experience and training but I still just love Chadwick's movement more with the suit on when it looks like he's weightless and flexible despite looking jacked as hell.
I don't think it's fair to compare the two, two very different actors and I'm sure her lack of fluidity is because she probably doesn't have as much combat experience. Of course, you can prefer one black panther to the other but I don't think they can even be compared.
Glad that u get a chance to do a review of Black Panther 2, really enjoyed listening to it. I like the movie, especially Namor, I hope they’ll be a movie about him soon. Can’t wait to watch y’all’s reactions when it release on Disney Plus. 😊
13:13 I thought the same thing! My guess is it refers to Namor’s throne being those giant Megalodon Jaws. So it’s might be a reference to The Throne, Namor, their God/Protector, etc…
I've always loved Namor love the creative choice to make Namor mesoamerican people who don't like the change should get over themselves the reason Namor is such a bad ass character in the comics is because he doesn't care about anyone besides he's people he doesn't compromise in he's beliefs and a lot of he's actions and decisions are not understandable and complex but all that stuff makes him a more interesting character because you don't know what he's going to do talocan was beautiful and amazing just amazing creative choices throughout the whole movie breaks my heart because imagine if we would of got tenoch Huerta performance as Namor and Chadwick Bosemans black panther would of been spectacular Rip Chadwick our king 🖤

You see her fighting on the field with the Dora at the end of the first movie with a spear. She even see her instructing Ross', who's flying, while she's fighting with the spear...
@@AshLee92490 from what I remember, she wasn't doing anything too special with that spear in the first movie. And Killmonger took care of her in seconds. Doesn't really inspire a lot in her fighting skills
@JoshtheTourist Well of course Killmonger took her out quickly. He literally a super-powered human. A depowered T'Challa would ha e lost against him too. Of course she wouldn't have been able to take him. And just because she wasn't doing anything "special" with the spear, doesn't take away that she was out there fighting, even without the tech. She was literally fighting on the field with just a spear, against a field full of highly trained Wakandans, who were armed with BOTH shields and weapons, while instructing Ross at the same damn time, and made it to the end of it without getting any severe injuries (if she'd gotten any at all). Y'all really think a royal heir, the daughter of both The Former Black Panther/King & The Former General of the Dora Milaje/Queen of Wakanda would not be a trained fighter? @@AshLee92490 I wasn't expecting her to win against kill monger, but she didn't even put up a fight. Mans just swiped her. Not a single dodge lol. @@NoArmsSally Thanks for sharing. I didn't know that. By chance, do you know what the hand gesture means (outside of the movie)? Or maybe what it's called so I can look it up on my own.
I dont know but maybe a better storyline if King Tachalla/ black panther died during an avengers mission. The lost of their King to a threat that the traditionally isolationist Wakanda would have nothing to do with Would have justifiably made Wakanda isolationist. Shuri angry at the outside world and guilty because the Black Panther suit she made for her brother failed to protect him And would lead people to ask what weapon penetrated Vibranium? Namor's kingdom as a major Vibranium user will feel threatened by the possibility and seek to find and eliminate it. In the post credit scene it is revealed the one who designed the anti vibranium weapon? Doctor Doom
I really liked this movie. Action and acting were on point. Pacing was, in my opinion, a little off though. Despite that, this is still one of the best movies of Phase 4 and definitely a standout from the MCU as a whole.
I really enjoyed Namor in this movie and his new direction makes me wonder if they are going to include his whole beef with the Fantastic Four in the future or if they’ll be ditching that. They have an interesting relationship that none of the previous Fantastic Four films ever showed, but I don’t really know how this current Namor ends up with a crush on Sue Storm 😂
This movie was fantastic. And I am definitely a Melanie cry-er. edit to add: the quote you were trying to remember was - “Only the most broken people, can be great leaders”.
I just saw this movie yesterday, the last day of the year. I cried from the first minute, and then through about half the film. Occasionally in scenes that most people probably didn't cry at (war makes me cry when innocents get caught in the crossfire 🤷♂). The parallels between Wakanda and Talokan were on point, and the themes of how grief can either make you a better leader or a vengeful monster hit hard. I like that there are strong parallels between Namor and Killmonger (and I didn't know MBJ was going to be in this, so that was a nice surprise!). The few big CGI action sequences we got were great (Midnight Angels better stick around in the MCU!). Also, I know they use jellyfish as their example in the movie, but... "breathes oxygen from the water through their skin via diffusion"? That's how frogs breathe underwater. The Talokanil are definitely frog-people. There are even blue frogs IRL, so I'm going with "the aquatic heart-shaped herb variant makes frogfolk." 😁
I loved the movie saw it twice and I gave it an 8.5 only thing Ian like was I wanted more from namora and attuma but they can be used more later and at least they’re there and were used
My only issue with the film that it was pretty slow, but at the same time I knew it was going to be an emotional movie, so it’s hard not to have an emotional movie be slow
Man I LOVED that the movie took it's time. What is with everyone bitching about anything that isn't in your face action all the time. Why is everyone so damn impatient now lol? The movies slow parts were it's best parts to me.
Great review ! I agree this is a much more adult movie dealing with serious themes . Maybe that’s why I actually liked it better than Black Panther . Don’t kill me for saying so . Kids under 12 might find it slower but adults who want 3 dimensional characters, adult themes and great story this was amazing
I tell people that I enjoyed this one more than the 1st and people look at me like I'm crazy. I think the CGI fight of the first one at the end maybe is what I'm hating on lol but whatever.

Overall I thought it was alright. Definitely did not love it like the first one and I wanted to SO much. I just had too many nitpicks about the film that they held me back from loving it. It was my most anticipated movie of the year and it just disappointed me, and maybe I had my expectations too high, but either way it was disappointing. Somethings felt off, I didn't like some of the pacing, and a lot of things just didn't vibe with me. But there were things I did like/love about it. I enjoyed the score, sound design, costume design, the cinematography and how the movie looked, and that introduction scene with the people from Talucan was AMAZING! So overall I enjoyed it but was also very disappointed so I would give it a 6.5 or 7.
I knew about the rewrite’s due to Chadwick passing, the pandemic, then later the set shutting down due to many of the cast catching Covid - it was a LOT for Ryan Coogler and team to deal with on top of their personal pain/grief of losing Chadwick. It has to be incredibly hard to shift a movie after being blindsided of the main character and friend passing suddenly. I agree the pacing was off but I’m willing to accept that due to circumstances, how beautiful the scenes/music was and how the message of pain, love and loss was natural, not forced and deeply felt throughout the movie.
I’m glad y’all liked it. Personally I did not, I enjoyed parts of it and I liked the idea of certain things. Actors were awesome. But the story and plot were just a mess in my opinion.
@@carrela1000 a few things. Disclaimer- I don't hate the movie, I just think it was a huge miss for me. If you loved it that's great. 1. Plot/story issue- Namors reasoning behind going straight to wanting to kill the scientist because somehow that will fix the issue of his people being found out by humanity was confusing. He is the one that attacked the miners in the first place which led to the suspicion of something happening and Wakanda being blamed for it. He is so worried about staying hidden but decided to risk his people being found out by doing that. Then threatens Wakanda into war while he could have asked for help from them in the beginning, which I think would have made more sense since its shown that he obviously cares for his people and would do anything to defend them. Considering he has lived for so long I would think he was a logical leader not an emotional one at this point. So it was hard for me to fully understand Namor. 2. Plot/story issue- Wakanda has been well developed in past films, so we understand how advanced and strong that nation is. So it was hard for me to get behind the idea that the nation of Talokan would go toe to toe with them when they were never really developed in a way where we could see how strong they really were. We don't really see they're strength, except for Namors. They kept mentioning how they had the advantage of numbers but we never see that. 3. Character issue- I also didn't think Shuri was the best choice for Black Panther. Okoye would've been a much better choice instead of making her a bad CG robot looking warrior or just re cast. Shuri was never developed enough, she was developed as a geeky intelligent scientist, not a leader in previous films. I was more frustrated with her character choices than rooting for her. 4. Also killing off the queen seemed extremely unnecessary. They have already told the story of the cycle of vengeance with Tchalla. Telling this story again with the queen through Shuri made it feel shoved in, just to make the story move along. It's a missed opportunity in telling a different story with her I think. These are the few issues that bothered me from my first watch so ill have to watch it one more time to really asses it. But overall I didn't love it. I strongly believe it was due to Chadwicks unfortunate passing, so a story had to be rewritten and thrown out there.
@@leotoxin Well, I can answer some of the issues. 1. He's an person from another era of history. He doesn't think like a modern person like you, or the Prime Minister of Great Britain, for example. He's a person from 1571, plus he's a Mesoamerican. They were very warlike, they would fight wars just to get captives for human sacrifice. Not just the Aztecs/Mexica, but the Mayans as well. They were more likely to attempt to bully what they consider a weaker entity rather than sweet talk like modern people. Ancient peoples who considered themselves strong didn't fear war like modern post WW2 world mostly does, especially in the Western World. It's why history is full of wars. Think about it, the War between Octavian and Cleopatra and Mark Antony was totally unnecessary from a modern perspective, except to them it wasn't. They didn't want to share control of the territory the Roman Realm and Egypt controlled, so they fought a war for supremacy. Octavian won, and actually Western Civilization is the better for it, because, he was a legendarily capable leader, and vastly magnified the power and glory of the Roman Empire, and Western Civilization. So much so, that our lives now are influenced by his decisions over 2,000 years ago. 2.They underestimated Wakanda's strength somewhat, and overestimate theirs also. However, from a military perspective, Wakanda is where Nazi Germany was in late 1944, technologically very advanced, and thus powerful, but lacks the population, the productivity, the economy, the other things that make a nation militarily powerful. So what if they can produce a few hundred ME262's, they are up against an enemy with literally tens of thousands of propeller based warplanes to send against them. Wakanda, has very advanced tech, but is a very small country, with a small population, and a small economy, with limited manufacturing capability therefore. Namor's initial raid that killed the Queen would have overrun and conquered Wakanda had he had a full army and pushed the attack instead of using the attack to send a message, and change the ruler of Wakanda to a girl he thought he could more easily manipulate. Which actually is similar to what Orm did when trying to get an army of united Atlanteans to attack the surface world. So it was possible with a powerful, sudden, Blitzkrieg style attack to overrun and take over Wakanda. 3. It's a royal line thing. It should be a member of the Royal family, Okoye is a good leader, and he knew it would be a fatal error to challenge her for the Black Panther mantle, also, she was the one who recreated through genetic work and 3d restoration methods the flower that gives them the power. She wasn't nor the people of Wakanda would have been in a mood for and Okoye challenge, she would have just killed him while empowered as the Black Panther, and rightly so. When at war with a dangerous enemy, it's not the time to challenge for the leadership of the country. This is what destroyed both the Western Roman Empire, and eventually the Eastern Roman Empire/Byzantine Empire, such shenanigans while one should be focused on being united, fighting the dangerous enemy. That's creating a Civil War while still trying to fight an external enemy also. 4. Namor was clearly going to kill her. She was the only fool who couldn't see it. Her only choice was to actually talk to him, negotiate, and then give him the girl, if she could acquire her, he made it very clear in the initial encounter, and then in the conversation she used to to get him out of Talokan so her agent could get Shurri and the girl free. Here's the problem with being an ordinary person living in the worlds where superbeings exist, like the DC Mulitiverse, or Marvel Multiverse, or "The Boys" or any others, if one of them are determined to kill you, your only hope is for another to save you from them. They better be of similar power level, or be able to level the playing field somehow. Or they will fall as well as you. Gorr was at this time killing beings of Namor's power level or greater, pagan "Gods" in the story of "Thor, Love and Thunder". In Moonknight, Egyptian "Gods" around this time were trying to kill each other, and Moonknight's patron "God", won.
@@jonathancummings6400 valid points. Appreciate the detailed explanation. Brought up a few questions though. 1. I understand he was from a different era that had no issues with killing, I got that. I just don’t understand why he was willing to put his nation in danger when he stated he wanted to protect his people and stay hidden. The whole killing Riri her wasn’t my problem, the risks of the action taken by killing her were my issue. He’s so worried about not being found out, but was willing to kill miners who were sent by the US and were being monitored, come up to the surface and kill a whole bunch of cops who probably had cameras and were going to add another reason by killing this girl. If the story just explained that they were tired of hiding then I would’ve accepted but they say something and then show us something different. 2. I could maybe get behind the idea of Namor masterminding the attack on Wakanda into a strategy to remove the queens and begin manipulating Shuri, but we are never shown that. The only bit we get of that somewhat being the case is towards the end when Namor is speaking to Namora. But the story never developed Namor into being a deceiver 3. That’s actually true, I totally forgot how the proceed of choosing their kings and queens worked. I just personally didn’t think Shuri was the best choice for Black Panther. 4. I agree with you on this. My issue was with the choice of having this as Shuris motivation within the story. It’s a retelling of a story already told within the Black Panther universe. In terms of story telling that just feels lazy. Motivating her with something else would have set her apart from her brother since they killed him within the story.
@@leotoxin It's fun to analyze this character and his motivations. 1. Here's why he took the risk. It was a lesser or two evils. He had to stop anyone else from having a significant amount of Vibranium. Look at Russia vs Ukraine, what if a Putin's Russia had the power of Vibranium? Or former Emperial powers like France, Spain, Great Britain, or the USA, already the most powerful country in the world that doesn't possess a large source of Vibranium. Namor needs to stop that from happening, no matter the consequences. Also, he seemed to be planning an attempt to conquer the world before Shurri defeated him and forced him to agree to her peace terms.
It's oddly the tale of two idiot children. I mean, I know they have their reasons, but... No, Namor, you cannot betray a secret that you do not possess. And Shuri, straight up denying the existence of someone else's grief ought to earn you a slap, princess or no...
I know why they didn't do it but one thing I would have liked to see is T'Challa give the "show him who you are" speech instead of her mother. The movie set up the argument "will she be like her brother or like killmonger?" so we should get to hear both sides. Also I really feel after all the movies Suri is is much closer to T'Challa than to her mother, always partners, and the speech would have been more impactful from him. It could have been a last goodbye to his sister and to us pushing the next generation forward.

i loved the way namor moved. literally running on air.
I love how Marvel makes each character that can fly look unique and different while flying like Iron Man, Thor, doctor strange, scarlet witch, vision and namor can all fly but in different ways it's so visually unique man
@@mickeymouse7726 How are Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch and Vision's flying style all unique from one another? This is a massive stretch.
@@mickeymouse7726 Matthew Champion has challenged your perspective Mouse

Bro I’m sorry, but I almost started laughing when they used the tractor beam thing. The CGI just looked so bad there
The arcacia tree behind it signifying the ancestral plain too
Definitely in my Top 10 MCU film. Much better than the first and it was an amazing tribute to Chadwick. Shurri's growth was amazing to see, and everyone delivered. Love music, fight scene and Namor is just incredible. Can't wait to see him more in the future!

The score for this movie was fantastic!!!
i am obsessed with the score from the first Black Panther. This one is nice as well but doesn't have the same casual listening properties as the first one.
@@jenng7389 true, but there was another level of intensity and softness added to this movie score. For example the siren call of the Tulucan people was so good it gave goosebumps.

The queen's speech was great can't wait to watch it again.
Melanie is a gem :) Great review guys!! Looking forward to seeing it a second time this weekend.
I feel like the only movie you have to see before this one is Black Panther & knowing Chadwick passed in irl. Which is good for someone who hasn’t watched all the movies or series to this point
I’d agree with this though then bringing up infinity war might make that a little confusing( nakia and Ramonda talking)
Compared to Love and Thunder this is a masterpiece
I love when a near-3hour movie went by without me noticing the time.
Thank you for the review. I can’t wait to see when the rest of the team reacts. There will be so much crying 😭
I’m thinking Valentina or Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross could take over the government & the DODC. They could launch Siege on Wakanda, leading to Talokan & the Avengers getting involved & being outcasted.
Also the options for Young Avengers are stacked:
- Toussaint
- Wiccan
- Speed
- Stature
- Ironheart
- Patriot
- Kate Bishop
- Ms. Marvel
- Love
- Skaar
Spider-Man, White Vision, or Wasp could be their mentor.
Can we talk about the siren scene?? Loved it so much!
Glad that u get a chance to do a review of Black Panther 2, really enjoyed listening to it. I like the movie, especially Namor, I hope they’ll be a movie about him soon. Can’t wait to watch y’all’s reactions when it release on Disney Plus. 😊
The reason Namor was different was because he was still gestating in his mother when she drank it so the herb changed him inside his mom

It would make sense that both these cultures would be allies from a blind standpoint. Both come from people/races who were slaved, both Have a deep connection to theIr god, both have a cool hand salute or greeting and both hail from vibrainium. A very we not so different you and I story. I wish we had seen Shuri training though we’ve never seen her really fight other than using her blasters in the first black panther and I guess in endgame.

Namor's kingdom as a major Vibranium user will feel threatened by the possibility and seek to find and eliminate it.
In the post credit scene it is revealed the one who designed the anti vibranium weapon?
Doctor Doom
Great film and great acting. Could understand not enough action in 2 hours and 40 minutes to keep the kids involved but certainly worth watching
Melanie is probably talking about Alone by Burna Boy (mixed in with Stormzy's interlude).

Why did you even have high expectations knowing the Main actor died?
I’m glad y’all liked it. Personally I did not, I enjoyed parts of it and I liked the idea of certain things. Actors were awesome. But the story and plot were just a mess in my opinion.
What felt like a mess to you? Anything specific?
But the story never developed Namor into being a deceiver
Orca with a K?
22:58 Well... an american of course would say that. hahahaha

You know what. Go watch Black Adam, destroyer of box office; The fans choice movie, with grate, deep, emotional plot, Incredible acting and unbelievably beautiful score. Then watch it again and again. And do not waste your time on pure garbage movies, like MCU have. I think you have enough brains to do so.
lol why are you sad? this movie is a fucking masterpiece. call me whatever, but I really like this more than the first.
@@georgegogiashvili9416 Black Adam? A good movie?
So you guys go to cinema only to watch marvel movies?
You guys don't even know what are you talking abou lol...how come u doing a review and you don't even know the names of the characters 🙄🙄
Did you understand their review? Then I think it's fine.
It was good but 45 minutes too long.
Black Adam has perfect length. And Black Adam was inspired from God! In Black Adam everything is on point! Acting: superb! Plot: insane! Action: without competition! Deep meaning: On another level! Black Adam! Black Adam! Go watch it now!
Very subpar, cringe and Namor the diversity hire was the last thing I wanted too see. This movie series died with the original actor for BP, at least bring Kilmonger back 😒
Found the tool.
@@DocStewie77
Tool? Ok if I'm a tool then you must be a slave a really good 1 too lol
How and why would they bring him back?
No?
Do you even know who Namor is in the comics
Lets be real the movie was awful, namor was boring as heck nothing made sense.
Agree. There was too much wrong with this movie unfortunately. Some great things but it wasn't enough to save it
@@ninjakiwi2476 As I sad, do not waste your time on garbage movies, and especially, on UA-cam reviews of garbage MCU movies. Black Adam is waiting for you. And, for fact, there will be almost empty theatre just for you, to give a special treat to anyone who watching that masterpiece of movie. Take snacks and ahead to any theater of your chose!
Non of the MCU movies make sense. They are empty, brainless, without soul... Black Adam! That is movie you need to watch again and again while got some money on bank account. And do not waste your time on UA-cam reviews of garbage movies. Go on channels where we, all MCU haters are gathering and support us.
@@georgegogiashvili9416 watched black adam and I enjoyed it more than this. It was just straight up fight scene after fight scene and I was here for it.
let's be real, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it just like everyone else. Namor was sick as fuck, OP as hell and the story was very well written, with all the plot holes solved by the mid credit reveal.
