One of the most thrilling pieces Miklos Rozsa ever wrote, and some of the most thrilling music anybody's EVER written for the screen. It's criminal that it was, in the end, dropped from the film in favor of what's essentially a cut-down version of the overture. Because it's an entr'acte, it was always intended as a stand-alone concert piece and, therefore, particularly suited to a commercial recording AND concert presentations. Would that orchestras performed it instead of the war-horse Main Title and "Parade of the Charioteers."
I just watched the movie Easter Day. It has always had an emotional effect on me. A large part is the score. I love the embedded love theme within this piece. I love the violinist at 1:33. You can tell she has an emotional tie in to the beauty of the melody. I love ALL of the videos posted in tadlowmusic. I especially love seeing the talent on display and there are NO distractions like light shows or screaming audiences. Just pure musical ecstasy being performed before my eyes. Unfortunately, I live in Michigan, U.S.A. and will probably never get to see a live performance but I will have the CD's and these videos to appreciate. Thank you for posting these and best success to the orchestra. I pray this pandemic will be over soon so more performances can happen. God Bless.
Hopefully! Dr.Rózsa is the greatest film composer of all time and thanks to his daughter Julia and The Rózsa Society we have a new, superb digital recording of his masterpiece. Absolute joy for our souls, bro.
Does anyone but me remember Spectacular Theater on Channel 9 in New York in the 1960"s? This was their theme music, against the chariot duel of Hector and Achilles in front of the doomed walls of Troy. How it fired the imagination of a ten year old boy, mind filled with cavalry charges, sea battles and all manner of death or glory. So what if the movies were grossly inaccurate, what mattered was the imagination, and what mattered most to that was the music, the glorious music. I grew up to be a pacifist, not a warrior, but those glorious strains (not just these of course, but many, many others) will be part of me for the rest of my life.

I bought the CD and I love it! Miklos Rozsa was a real music genius. And If you like this music you should also listen to "The thief of Bagdad" which is even better (my opinion)
Exceptional work!!! This is serious business. When you are recreating work of a Master like Miklos Rozsa. I'm hblmed by this comany of exceotional miscians!
I disagree. This performance is second-rate at best. Major phasing/synchronization problems with the percussion. The brass has intonation/tonal issues, especially the trumpets. Also, the mixing/mastering is completely unacceptable. The loudness wars are on display here, and the dynamics of the orchestral performance takes a massive hit. I would love to support releases like this, but this team is simply not up to the task. Shame, really.
The performance is very amateur along with their personal appearance; this is not an orchestra to be taken seriously. If you want to hear how this piece should be played, then listen to a real orchestra showing you how it should be done. Go to the link below. ua-cam.com/video/9L_z2OcL8-U/v-deo.html
The link to Roza conducting is great, but on the note on personal appearance - relaxed casual is pretty normal for a recording session. (..as opposed to concert performance attire.)
If I could change ONE thing, it would ONLY be that the iconic turn be MILKED for every moment it's played... It's not there as decoration. It's important. And they don't quite take the time to exaggerate it and play it out of time as was in the original recording. Past that it's a beautiful performance!

They changed the score from the original Ben Hur version, trying to modernize it. This video has superior recording quality than the original, but it doesn't even come close to the way it was directed by Miklos Rozsa. That's like director John Smith, trying to change Beethoven's 5th to improve it. Still, it's incredible. ua-cam.com/video/9L_z2OcL8-U/v-deo.html
It is not that bad for amateurs, but if you have an ear for true music then the arrangement of these musical sounds leave a lot to be desired. This orchestra are not professional in their job as musicians.
someone with "an ear for true music" would most likely point out the failings of this orchestra, but you chose not to. you sound like someone who enjoys the smell of their own farts
C'était la première version prévue en ouverture de la 2ème partie, Miklos Rozsa l'a retouchée comme pour l'ouverture de la 1ère partie! Seul point commun: le magnifique thème d'amour!
What the hell are you talking about, you pompous prick? This performance clearly does not have the sound of "amateurs" and YES, I DO have an ear for music AND Music degrees to go along with it. Having performed myself in various orchestras from amateur to professional, I can say from experience, this ensemble sounds great. I've heard live performances from the LA Phil, Chicago Symphony and the New York Philharmonic and this group exhibits a similar, if not equal, level of balance, intonation and musical expression of those world class ensembles.
As Haya Harareet (Esther) recently passed away, all the main cast are now deceased. Memorable Hollywood picture for all time.
I love how these Epics had an overture, intermission and entr'act.. Audiences must have been in awe of the magnificent hi-fi multichannel sound.
That violinist (at 2:37) is absolutely gorgeous. ❤ The music too, of course!
The Most Moving Biblical Music ever Produced in over 100 Years!

Maravillosa toda la música de esta grandiosa película.
I think they sound excellent - very comparable to the original. In fact, every time I hear them I wish they could hear me applauding them.

Unbelievable, I can't stop seeing him.

I agree that the Thief of Bagdad is excellent!
With all due respect 'Thief of Bagdad' is a lovely, colorful score but lacks the scope, magnificence and glorious orchestration of Ben-Hur.
Exceptional work!!! This is serious business. When you are recreating work of a Master like Miklos Rozsa. I'm hblmed by this comany of exceotional miscians!

I think it's only a rehearsal. Wait for the record, please...
I'd bet that the record will sound basically the same. This is just how this group sounds.

Wow. Not bad. In fact, sublime.
Yes, "sublime" is the word...
Nowhere as good as Rozsa's original soundtrack recordings with the peerless M-G-M Symphony Orchestra.
magnifique
Bravo
The composer was clearly inspired by God Himself.

Anyone know the name of the female cellist , gray pullover, black hair, who gets a close-up at 2:59?
This doesn’t sound like the Entracte from Ben Hur. Was this footage cut out from the movie?
Yes, probably for no good reason, but was included in the album "More Music from Ben-Hur", released in the early 60s.
