This is actually the Strangers doing all the backing on this track ...the vocals are Graeme Thompson Peter Robinson & John Farrar .... The Strangers were the resident group on this show and did the backgrounds for all the artists. With shows like this in the 60; it was common to use whoever was available for the backgrounds as the show ran on a very limited budget ... Peter Robinson - The Strangers P.S Yvonne was our dear friend and we miss her
Yvonne, Pat Farrar,Denise Drysdale, Patti Newton all started out as dancers and appeared in stage shows like Bye' bye Birdie They all gravitated to Vocals as the trend was going, we all became good friends through Television shows went to lot's of parties and had fun ..they were great days ... Everybody is still working in the Industry .. I currently Musical director for " GoShowGold - Melbourne shows are at the Palais august 10th 2013
The Instrumental backing is the by the Strangers and the Vocal group is Garth Thompson, Peter Robinson, John Farrar. The Cherokees are most likely miming as it was in those days
Hi Sarah. I only met Patricia once but was a friend of Yvonne's. She was the most beautiful girl inside and out. You would know about the tragic end to her life due to the internet. Yvonne's parents have both passed away. She also has a brother Peter. Patricia had two daughters. They grew up in Dodd st, Braybrook. Hope you are to get the information that your wanting.
hi, i noticed you said that Yvonne was a dear friend of yours i was just wondering if there is anything about her or her family that you could share with me. anything at all would be so greatly appreciated, thankyou :)
off and running was co-written by carole bayer sager. it was performed by the mindbenders (post wayne fontana) in the movie to sir with love. eric stewart of 10cc was a member of the mindbenders.
It seems Yvonne was living in Sydney in 1985 and was then murdered by her enstranged husband. Her funeral took place back in Melbourne in Braybrook, her home town suburb. RIP Yvonne.
I remember her singing at Scarborough Beach with Johnny Young's Club 7teen. She sang The Lover's Concerto. She had a strong brassy voice and, in my humble opinion, sang the best version.
great aussie talent, the cherokees with drummer barrie windley were the best, later band changes saw the decline of this great band. yvonne barret, olivia newton-john pat carrol and lyne randall were all part of this aussie pop culture...great times.
Bazza, I could not agree more with you : we had some great talent in Australia back in the golden days of the swinging 60's!!!! The beautiful and gorgeous ladies Yvonne Barrett, Lynne Randell ( huge fan of hers!!!!) pat, Olivia, Marcie Jones and the cookies, bev harrell, Little Pattie, Cheryl Gray!!!! Fabulous groups like The Cherokees, The easybeats, The twilights, The groop, The loved ones, The Master's apprentices, Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs, Ray Brown and The whispers!!!! Top males : Normie, jok, Merv Benton, Peter Doyle, Ronnie burns!!!! Yes, those were the days, sadly missed but luckily, we can still listen to their records and watch them on UA-cam!!!! I liked your comment and bazza, I wish you Merry Xmas and Happy New Year mate!!!!
to sir with love came out in 1968, so yvonne's version was before the movie. it was performed in the movie by the mindbenders. it was co-written by carole bayer sager.
hi thanks so much for your reply :):) i am actually trying to chase up anything about yvonne or her family that may be helpful for us, my mother was adopted and we have found out that apparently her birth mother was patricia yvonne's sister which would make yvonne my mothers biological aunty :) so just wanting to find out as much as i can about her. do you know if she has any living relatives??
Buzzbox3rd Sadly Yvonne was murdered by her ex-husband in September of 1985 in the Sydney suburb of Birchgrove. For further info go to her Wikipedia entry. Yvonne & the Barrett family were good friends of my family in the suburb of Braybrook.
Buzzbox3rd It seems like it was a classic murder of passion.my understanding was.the marriage was not a happy one..hence the early divorce..One can only speculate as to why she married a Vietnamese ex soldier..maybe it was due to her tours of Vietnam to entertain the troops..I have no idea if she met him over there during those tours..it was a dreadful act..and we all were shocked and saddened for Yvonne's family..
Yep John Farrar joined what was essentially an instrumental group and they morphed into a harmony Beach Boys type group. I suspect it was his direction as when he joined the Shadows they did a lot of that harmony type work. He married another bigish Melbourne singer Pat Carrol who went to the UK with Olivia Newton John where they performed as a team. Olivia then went solo and Farrar did some of her writing and I think the late John Rostill bass player for the Shadows also did some.
I love this video, not a great song but the combination of her great looks and how it is a great reflection of the times with the song makes it a smash!

I remember her singing at Scarborough Beach with Johnny Young's Club 7teen. She sang The Lover's Concerto. She had a strong brassy voice and, in my humble opinion, sang the best version.

Off and Running was originally by Lulu and was included in the movie 'To Sir With Love'
to sir with love came out in 1968, so yvonne's version was before the movie. it was performed in the movie by the mindbenders. it was co-written by carole bayer sager.
That is sad.
That is very sad, to say the least...
this act should have been booked solid every frat party in '60's...someone should have taken better care of her.

Yes ! the same John Farrar of the Strangers who later joined up with the "Shadows " in England
Yep John Farrar joined what was essentially an instrumental group and they morphed into a harmony Beach Boys type group. I suspect it was his direction as when he joined the Shadows they did a lot of that harmony type work. @milkyjugs
Ha ha ha....well, this is before my time, 'some arse' Ha ha ha

I heard that Yvonne went to perth to live does anyone know what happened there
yes

DOES ANYONE have the lyrics of this song? pleeease
Soooooo mod.....She wanted out.....it transpired you've got to watch what you're wishing for....No relation of that other Barrett.
Also recorded by The Mindbenders.
Who wrote the song?
Pretty much a carbon copy of Leslie Gore's version, but well performed.
Hot lady !!
what is this song called?
Off and Running. Lesley Gore recorded it as well.
The Lesley Gore version (produced by Quincy Jones) rocks a little harder than this.
Found them! sorry
