Eternal is a British R&B group that formed in 1992. The original members included sisters Easther and Vernie Bennett, along with Kéllé Bryan and Louise Nurding, who later became known as Louise Redknapp. They were brought together by a record label and gained worldwide fame, selling around 10 million records. Nurding left to focus on her solo career, and Bryan left for reasons that were not explained in 1998. After their departures, only the Bennett sisters remained, and the group disbanded in 2000. They briefly reunited in 2013 with Bryan returning, but disbanded once more in 2014. Some people compared them to the American girl group En Vogue.

5 years ago my daughter was born and it was the best day of my life. She died 4 months ago in a car accident when my wife and her were coming home from a party.. This song reminds me of her because she was my baby angel... I miss her so much

I only found out about this original version today (April 24, 2013) and I think both versions sound great. I wouldn't complain if I heard this one instead of Monica's. I think Monica did it justice.

I loved 'Eternal' too and I think they were kind of underrated because they were really talented.
Wow this version portrays more of parent to child kinda love. Has a lot of "feel" in this one. Very soothing and comforting. Monica's version portrays more of romance. The lyrics are slightly different between the two versions.

Tammy Hale MONICA'S VERSION IS NOT A COVER. THIS WAS COMMONPLACE IN THE 90'S. PRODUCERS/WRITERS DID "PLACEMENTS" SIMILAR TO WHAT HAPPENED WITH TRISHA YEARWOOD AND LEANNE RIMES WITH HOW DO I LIVE. BOTH VERSIONS CAME OUT ALMOST SIMULTANEOUSLY. BOTH WERE SUCCESSFUL BUT LEANNE'S VERSION WAS COMMERCIAL MONSTER SUCCESS BECAUSE SHE HAD A SIGNATURE TONE. HOWEVER TRISHA WON THE GRAMMY FOR HER VERSION.

Why didn't this group blew up in the States. They could've been the UK equivalent of SWV/En Vogue (which they already were).

This song takes me back to when my cousin used to listen to pop compilation CDs. This song was on one of them, and it was a secret guilty pleasure of mine. This compared to Monica's version is more emotional and heartfelt. Monica sings it as if she is reading the lyrics off a cuecard.

The CD Collection that I bought has this song in it with a picture of a mother holding her child's hand. Very lovely. Now whenever or wherever I hear this song, I always think of my mother. The lyrics do seem like it's from a mother's point of view, eh?

I like Monica's version, but I LOVE THIS ONE.
I don't know the lead singers name but she is really beautiful and gives the song a breathy and alluring feel to it that puts you in a beautiful trance.
UK record companies don't usually invest longterm in R&B acts, so Eternal did well to have 12 top 10 hits and sell a few million albums in the 90s.
