I swear most of these comments are the most casual fans ive seen and has obviously never cut weight for anything. Brian was up all night, cut 34 pounds in 2 weeks after spending a month bulking for lightweight (really think about that) and took a short notice fight off the back of a win, now facing an opponent who is much lower rank. What more do you want from fighters besides actually dying on the way to the scale 🤷♂️
True Lopes hasn't done anything to deserve a top 5 opponent anyway so who cares

I appreciate your outlook here. I think when you take in to account everything you mentioned, Ortega deserves some slack here. Especially being in the middle of bulking to lightweight. And he was also a part of these last minute matches put together to save this card, and he contributed to making it happen. Still a great pairing, and I look forward to this one for sure.
you are a casual and you are missing the point. Professional fighters know if they will make the weight or not. He shouldve told Lopes earlier, not the last min he couldnt make weight. Lopes already drained down to 146, he knew he couldnt make it but waited until the last min. That was a cheap move
@@hz7498 he was trying to make the weight till 3am until they realised he had no water left cut and that his extra weight came from his documented bulking. He let Hunter know and rather than cancel the fight they asked Diago. What point am I missing, I made many counter points to what you just said already. Actually cut weight in your life and call me a casual again.
To be fair, the ufc had already had him a fight for 155lbs in September, he probably told them there was no guarantee he was gonna make 145 for this fight and diego lopez might've known that. This is nowhere near as bad as the gastelum bollocks.

The UFC made this fight knowing he was at a higher weight, Hunter has literally been working with him to find a lightweight opponent. Takes a simple mind to do some deduction and work out that the UFC is desperate for a good co main and this was their best option. None of that is on Ortega. Brian has literally only lost to Volk and Max, he's ranked 3. You really don't think the UFC twisted his arm to get him to fight an up and comer on short notice at a weight class he's no longer at weight for? Like how are you man at Brian and not the UFC. But really how just not happy we got an exciting co main despite all the hurdles. Can tell the closest you've got to the backstage of a sports promotion is through your computer screen.

Part of the profession is making the agreed up on weight come weigh in. The fight was not scheduled at lightweight originally so there is zero excuse for Ortega. @@bigmontingyeah8711 Everything I said was in retort to just that. Signing a contract on short notice isn't some black and white thing like you make it out to be. I'd agree with 100 percent if it wasn't short notice but I said what I said to point out just how desperate the UFC must be. This isn't boxing, Brian turning this down could have huge implications for his career, I get what you're coming from but I think all the circumstances give either of these fighters some leeway and maybe we just disagree on that one aspect. I honestly can't believe the UFC didn't have 2 or 3 solid back up bouts on any card Connor tries to go on.
