Sanjo, literally meaning "scattered melodies/" is a solo instrumental music accompanied by the Janggu. The basic structure f sanjo consists of six rhythmically-divided movements without pause in progressively faster tempo. This kind of arrangement provides a sense of release following the continuous building up of tension through a fast rhythm. The instrumentalist seeks both a unique melodic characterand organized beauty through a virtuosic improvisatory performance, Sanjo performed by the Gayageum(12-String zither) s an age-old music and displays the delicate and exquisite beauty of Korean music.
