    To improve handling, you'll want to make it longer and wider. that will allow you to lower the turret assembly. For the string, you could make it so the string goes through a Technic brick hole so there's no backlash.
    11 sec/shot isn't terrible. It just sounds slow.

    When I was a kid, I felt sad because my brother stopped playing legos with me, in favor of playing video games. I thought maybe he didn't like how I was playing with the legos, so I spent four hours building a few tanks, buildings, and military outposts out of whatever legos we had. When he noticed what I was doing, he started helping me build everything up, and we ended up reenacting WW2 D-Day, storming the beaches of Normandy. When we got done, we hadn't even realized it was past our bedtime.
    Fast forward to the beginning of 2020, I heard my fiance had taken her own life, and it broke me.
    One of the things that dragged me out of it, was my brother reminding me that no, people don't want me gone. He looked back fondly on the day we took a few harry potter minifigs and turned them into the most dangerous men on the battlefield made him chuckle alot when he was going through his own issues.
    I love legos. When I eventually have kids, I'm going to get them as many as I can afford.

    Use a clutch on the string part, you can engage the clutch to wind it up and then just disengage the clutch to fire. The spool will be free to rotate and you don’t have to manually unwind or risk winding in the other direction if you do it too long.

    • @User-gg5ks
      @User-gg5ks Рік тому +30

      Or make the tracks like typical tank have, not squared behind like it is for some reason. Adding weights to the middle should also help. It is hard to imagine making the mechanism to shift the centre of gravity not taking a lot of space or even requring additional motors

    • @west8772
      @west8772 Рік тому +2

      Really Bad Idea, to shift the center of gravity you would need more motors, more parts, that in the end add lots of weight to the tank, and that we want to avoid.
      The solution here is to have the Tracks shaped like the Mark V tank, which would add more surface contact to the ground and prevent situations like in 4:07 (also way less weight than having a whole mechanism to shift the center of gravity)

  • @danielngmoen3901
    @danielngmoen3901 Рік тому +30

    One suggestion for the tracks:
    Could be possible to mirror the front to the back as well? I think maybe part of the problem is that it is possible for the tank to fall backwards. Extending the tracks further back would maybe help?
    Love the vids as always!!

    • @ArgoDevilian
      @ArgoDevilian Рік тому +4

      This. I think most actual tanks have it so the angled tracks at the front also exist on the back. And the "turret" is always in the center, which probably helps with balance.
      adding a second motor to each side would probably help too, but you would still have trouble with balance i'd imagine

      I agree. I'd be curious as to where the inspiration of this style came from. I would've thought the most sensible approach would've been to mimic something tried and true like a modern tank design. The completely vertical back has pretty obvious shortcomings. The height could be an issue as well. I wouldn't be surprised if this design was prone to tipping sideways.

    The 11 second fire rate is pretty realistic for a tank Ngl. Modern tanks maybe faster, but old tanks were way slower too. Like the Sturmtiger, it's 300lb missle took almost 15 minutes to reload. In Warthunder and some other games it takes between 30-60 seconds to reload the insta kill shot.

    I believe the shortcomings you listed are solvable. The stability issues simply require a redesign of the treads to make the driving surface longer. As for the cannon, perhaps a quick-release mechanism on the winch? Or maybe make the pulling-back thingy (I'm an engineer 🤪) separate from the "bowstring" as in a crossbow and make it move forward to get out of the way.

    I think there are more shortcomings with this tank.
    -The tank is quite large, so it is an easy target for enemy tanks, artillery and planes, however that is an downside of a MEGA tank.
    -The center of weight is too high, so the tank is prone to falling over.
    -The gun lacks any stabilization system, and doesn't return to the original aiming point
    -Chassis is quite weak and prone to flexing
    -The armoring is weak
    -Lacks ERA
    -Lacks any hard kill or soft kill systems to protect from anti tank weapons.
    -Has no gearbox, thus the machine is a logistic nightmare
    -Has no suspension, so off road performance may lack
    -Really bad sights
    idk if anything else

    If you want to fix the issue with the string, consider using a pulley mounted on an arm that allows the string to remain under enough tension to not get caught. Should only minimally affect firing velocity if tuned correctly. Alternatively, some sort of block and tackle may be possible, though I think it would be less efficient and more hassle.

    Man, just continuing to hit it out of the park man!!! Next time you should make it more complicated, party by fixing these issues and partly by making more complext parts for the tank, like maybe have suspension for the wheels or something like that.

    Maybe a bigger ammo capacity (by means of additional magazine) could accomodate for the worse accuracy? :DD
    Brilliant video as always by the way! I got especially amazed by the balistic animation there, the bugger's focken splendid mate! :DDDD

    Great job, but I would recommend attaching the mini tank to the bottom and then having a button to drop or deploy it.

    a tip for the instability, make the tracks shorter, whith all the height its decreasing how much the vehicle needs to rotate to go past the base of the vehicle

    You've made a lego boat and now a lego mega tank. I hope to see a lego Warship someday, with perhaps the most powerful cannon to date? Co2 powered cannon????
