ATTACK ON TITAN Reaction 3x21 - "ATTACK TITAN"

  • We REFUSE to believe that every intelligent Titan that we have encountered so far has a life expectancy of 13 years since turning!! 😱 😭 There has to be another way out of it! We were incredibly shocked when learning that!
We also wonder what is Eren going to do with the new information he discovered about touching a Royal Titan, which could potentially endanger Historia's life. And talking about our Queen... she finally got to read Ymir's letter and now we confirmed what her true feelings were 💔
In the end, we had another surprise waiting for us: Eren Kruger mentioned Mikasa and Armin but didn't really know who they were and that confused us and has Shuni believing in a time traveling theory... 🤔
Have a nice day and enjoy the video!

    Sorry if I didn't explain it well💦
When we Japanese first saw the title "Shingeki No Kyojin", we felt a sense of discomfort. "Shingeki No Kyojin" is a bit strange in Japanese, and its meaning is not clear. If it mean "the advancing titan" or "attacked by titans", it would be more natural to say "Shingeki Suru Kyojin" or "Kyojin No Shingeki".
Until this episode, no one had any idea that it was one of the names of the titans. If it's a titan with such a name, it's not unnatural as a Japanese word. Thereby that made this title very clear and convincing for a change.
I think, perhaps the original author, Hajime Isayama, intentionally gave it a title that could be taken ambiguously. In the story, Erwin discerned a hidden agenda in the wording of the history book, and if he had been a viewer of this show, he probably would have discerned that the ambiguity of the title was also intentional😄

It's a genius play on words! We are pretty sure the creator of this anime had to bare with the questions about the title for a long time until it made sense. Thank you for the explanation! We now understand more about it 😁

I will explain why "Shingeki no Kyojin" was translated into "Attack on Titan".
The fact that "Shingeki no Kyojin" was translated into "Attack on Titan" is often controversial among the Japanese.
Because it's not the correct translation.
However, it was the most suitable translation.
The title "Attack on Titan" should not be "The Attack Titan".
Because "Shingeki no Kyojin" has two meanings for the Japanese.
1.Shingeki no Kyojin = Titans attacking (humanity)
2.Shingeki no Kyojin = The name of the titan of Eren, The Attack Titan
Japanese readers didn't initially know Eren's titan's name, so they all thought the title meant 1.
Later, it was revealed that his titan's name was "Shingeki no Kyojin", they understood the true meaning of the title.
    They were surprised and impressed.
    This is a Japanese trick.
There was no way to translate these perfectly into English.
Making the title "The Attack Titan" is inappropriate because it explicitly points to the name of the titan.
However, if you make it "Titans Attacking Humanity", the pun is bad and it has a direct meaning.
That's why the title became "Attack on Titan".
This was decided by the author, Mr. Isayama, and the designer.
    I support them.
    In addition,
Shingeki is not a simple "Attack"
"Shingeki" means to move forward while attacking in Japanese.
Eren often says I just keep moving forward.
There was no corresponding English word.
This is the limit of translation and can't be helped.
Even in English, there are many words that can't be translated into Japanese.
Let's recall the lyrics of the ending song "Akuma no Ko" from Season4 Part2!
    Once this word is translated~♪
    I used Google Translate.
    Thank you for reading🙏
    I love Attack on Titan😁

For clarification, an accurate translation for “shingeki no kyojin” would be something like “attack titan” or “advancing titan” and not “attack *on* titan”.
Moreover, there is no explicit plural form in Japanese, so the Japanese audience would have interpreted the title as “titans attacking humanity” rather than the name of an individual titan.

Yep, Eren is 15 as stated in this episode (hard to believe they are still so young) and ate his father 5 years ago at the age of 10. So indeed Grisha must have been close to the end of his 13 years, if you consider those 10 years plus Carla's pregnancy, plus who knows how long he lived in the walls before he married her.
