This entire show is so hypnotizing. Although, it's pretty weird most of the time. The oddly philosophical dialogue and the clear literature blend with anime character archetypes were the highlights of this show for me. This is pretty nostalgic.
It resonated with me as it encapsulated all the archetypes portrayed as anomalies in the anime. The nostalgic theme featuring various peculiar relationships between the protagonist and the girls turned it into a comical rendition of an anime if it were penned by Freud. It truly stands as a masterpiece with a straightforward storyline that can be grasped, unlike many other pieces of art in anime that tend to be too complex to comprehend the entire narrative by merely watching it.
For people who need some context: Araragi (the MC) was shocked to see his sister (Tsukihi) not having a permanent scar, that's why he stripped her. It was revealed that his sister isn't his sister, it was like how phoenix gave birth by laying eggs on some other bird's nest. After finding this, he was disappointed initially but accepted her as his sister because of the time he spent with her. The entire story arc or the anime has phenomenal writing.
For anyone wondering, this show is exactly as good as it seems. Too bad a ton of the wordplay is impossible to translate and the subtitles can be hard to read in time
I don't think the wordplay is lost though. We can't understand it as clearly as a japanese speaker, but we understand when something in the flow of the translation feels off and we can infer what the wordplay might've been. Makes for a nice brain teaser on your fourth rewatch.

When you read the novels, it really is just a whole lot of dialogue (the writing is what makes it fun). There rarely is ever a high action scene, like in Kanbaru Monkey or Karen Bee. Since most of the story is just conversation, the animators had to make all this back and forth fun to watch, so they added all these wacky visuals and beautiful backgrounds, alongside some crazy camera angles. Beyond that they probably had a lot of budget lying around considering they don't have to animate crazy fight scenes particularly often. It's honestly really impressive how they got conversations-usually the most visually boring part of many anime-to be so interesting to watch, even as someone who doesn't speak Japanese and can't enjoy the dialogue to the fullest (there's a lot of wordplay in both the novels and the anime that's Japanese specific, some of the visuals in the anime help illustrate it though).
