    hi maria! I live in central fl and i worry about rainy season because i leave my plants outside also. Should i add some course perlite to my compost mix for better aeration and drainage? thank you for all your videos... your the best!

      rose no worries about the rain as long if they have good drainage they like the rain, I would not transplant them this time of the year the heat will stress them. They were dormant November to March and just wake up and blooming. Not sure how old they are but if you do transplant them put a little rock on the bottom with cactus soil and mix into the soil a good fertilizer high in nitrogen like osmocote 14 14 14 then a liberal amount around the plant and cover with soil make sure it is the slow release then water one time very good to settle the plant,place in shade for a week then back in the sun. @MariasgardenGarden  6 років тому

      Johnpaul Paul Hi Johnpaul the best time to prune and repotting grafting any desert rose is a winter time when the desert rose are dormant also something that is very very important after pruning to seal all cuts after pruning first clean sapp after cutting them use wood glue that is water proof thank you Maria’s garden

    Hey Maria! I am having a problem with my desert rose. It is blooming for the first time but the blooms are falling off before the fully form. Any ideas? Plenty of sun here...

      Eric Pitts This is very common in a grafted desert rose but you can
      Help the plant by apply Epsom salt unscented every two weeks 3 tablespoons to a gallon of water shake very well and water you desert rose also repotted will help but I need to know more about you plant

      @@MariasgardenGarden thanks for getting back to me Maria. The plant is planted in the ground (we live in the desert of East Africa and see them around naturally). It is about 2 years old and grown from seed with no grafting. We don't water it until the soil is dry. Any ideas? Maybe too much sun and too hot? 100+ degrees everyday? Maybe it's just too young?

      Gemma Cedeno if you can’t call me it’s ok I need you to go to the plant and squeeze the trunk very hard the trunk has to be just like potato hard .if not you need to take you plant under roof to dry very well if the tips are to rotten you need to prune them and apply cinnamon in each tip if the trunk is soft and brown when squeezing , the plant is not good send me a photo so I can see the damage. Thank you for watching my channel Maria’s garden

      When you say prune them, does that mean Cut them?.. one of my dessert rose plants the trunk has gotten soft when I squeeze it like you say.. I’m in Orlando, FL and we’ve been getting lots of raining every afternoon.. so I’m not sure if it’s because of all the rain that we are getting that is maybe causing this.. This is the first time me having these plants.. so I’m not sure how to car for them.. but your videos are helping me understand them more.. But now I’m worry for this one plant that the leaves are turning yellow and falling off but now like I said the trunk when I squeeze it is soft and the branches are going down too.. I don’t want it to die so I’m trying to figure this out.. thank you Maria..

    Hi Maria.. I have a question for you.. what does it mean when the Stem or branch of a Dessert Rose starts getting soft or starts going down.. I notice on one of my plants that the leaves are turning yellow and one of the stems/branch is getting soft..

    • @MariasgardenGarden
      @MariasgardenGarden  6 років тому

      Peggy Acevedo Hi Peggy if you desert rose branch are getting soft at this time of the year the reason maybe rain also the yellow leaves is normal. The question I didn’t understand is when you say soft there green is ok the plant is growing and also store water in the trunk if you not getting a lot rain please water you plant ones a week also please don’t cut any think a this time wait for winter otherwise the plant get very stress only if you think the brunch are getting water and the rot that be necessary to cut and please and sealer with wood water proof if you need help please feel free to call me at 941-457-1172-Maria’s garden 🐛🐜🐝🌺

      Peggy Acevedo Hi Peggy dawn or Palmolive dish soap actually acts like insecticide when you have any problems with mites aves or black mold then rinse good and problem is gone. I use it all the time . Thank you Maria’s garden

    Please help me I spray my desert rose whit dish soap and now my leaves have dark spot at the batom

    • @MariasgardenGarden
      @MariasgardenGarden  6 років тому

      Ingrid Cawich ok my friend the spray of dish soap has nothing to do with brown spots on your desert rose as long as you rinse it off. It may be getting to much water please take it in to dry for a few weeks then put out side if to heavy to move build a shelter for it i really think it’s from to much water Maria’s garden
