This feels special, yet eerie, and sad, almost as if im seeing a moment frozen in time, hearing the animatronics talk about famous people who arent even alive anymore, and popular things of an older age, as if it was yesterday, lets face it, these animatronics are older than some of us watching this video now, myself included, and they're still running at 40 something years old, truly amazing, thats something thats facinating to me,
As a child of the 50s/60s, I was totally unaware of this spectacle. YIKES! It's amazing! Thanks for introducing me to this unique form of entertainment!
Those animatronics are still working surprisingly well for being 40 years old. The technicians at this location work on the stage multiple times a week because the animatronics constantly break down due to their age, that makes it better than what you see.
I'm so so glad you got to experience this in person. I have such fond memories of going to Pistol Pete's Pizza in Tucson where I grew up. They had the same set up but there wasn't a Billy Bob (I don't think there was room for the whole stage) but it was always the best night when my parents said we were going to get pizza there 🥰
That looks amazing. I first learned about the Rock-afire Explosion from the Carpetbagger. He is abscessed with this animatronic band and has shown them on his UA-cam channel several times. I am glad you both got to experience this and I hope to someday. Thanks for sharing this with us and for all the hard work you put in to your channel.
I'm SO JEALOUS of you two! The last time I saw them actually "alive" was 1983!! But... when I found out in 2006 that some original RAE's were posted on UA-cam and found out they hadn't been forgotten, I visited Aaron Fechter's home base in Orlando, and got pictures on stage with them...holding Fatz's hand, kissing Mitzi, and "singing" with Billy Bob!
So cool! Growing up, we had Chuck E Cheese's and Showbiz Pizza. Loved both, but really Showbiz. My Aunt Shirley was terrified of them. They had a Statue of Liberty performance once with an animatronic Statue of Liberty. She was not having it. Bless her. Thank you so much for sharing!
@@Dinoclj Thank you so much. I didn't know how rare it was. It was in Montgomery, Alabama. Maybe it was there because it is Alabama's capital? I wish we had a picture. It really freaked out my aunt. Of, course, amy animatronic did. ♥️
I remember as a kid seeing "Rock afire explosion" at Billy Bobs for a couple birthday parties... I loved it. It was a great time to be alive as a kid. I look back and smile, but as an adult they kind of creep me out a little lol. I am from Charleston West Virginia, I didn't even know they still had one up and running still, That is wild!
So this would be classified as a roadside attraction now I guess. Things I'll never see, but glad they survived and thrived. I remember going to Chuck E. Cheese for a friends birthday(1985ish). Liked the games the best. I like watching the roadside attraction videos, so fun that you did one. Thanks for taking us along.💗
I’m 33. And my big sister used to take me to Chuck E Cheese from the time I was around 4-11/12 years old! I have so many beautiful memories there with my sister and my Nephew.
I’ve seen the one at Creative Engineering where Aaron Fechter made them and got to meet him for 3 hours. There are quite a few owned by private people. The Chucky Cheese in South Charlotte still had original reskinned rock-a-fire but I heard it was removing them by an employee. Anyway we went to Billy Bobs last Summer. Was Nice to see them fixed up. Pizza was ok also!!
Thank you for the video I was wonderful to remember all that in and see them again I used to love to see them at Chuck-E-Cheese when my kids were little some of them similar to the ones at Disneyland thank you for the historical story about them thank you girls God bless you tell next time
This brought me back to my childhood. We used to go to Showbiz as a special treat for dinner. I also remember when Chuck E. Cheese took over. I also had friends who worked at Chuck E. Cheese in high school in the 90's. Thanks for sparking my memories!
Super cool, and I love the blue moon and sun singing backup. lol I was a teenager in he 1980's so I didn't go to Chuck E Cheese or Showbiz Pizza; but I did enjoy watching this video. Thank you for posting it!
Thank you for this! I'm pushing 50 and this just brought back so many wonderful memories. These animatronics look great. There was a balloon machine by the door of our Showbiz. It would inflate your ballon then you opened the door to grab it. They had one of the main characters on them. I always hoped for a yellow one with Fatz. 😊 I absolutely have to go to WV now! 6 hours from SC. Not bad! Thanks so much girls! 💓
Thank you so much for the memories! I worked at a ShowBiz Pizza in the early 80s and I still have my name tag. Loved playing Skee Ball with the tokens we received with our pay check.
Girls this was awesome as I went went several times in the late 80’s-90’s for kids birthday parties. Our was located in Garland, Texas and I’ll have to find pictures we took. Thank you for taking me down memory lane!😀❤️👍🏻
Took my Grandkids to Chuckie Cheese in Hobart, Indiana, but not the same without Animatronics..but my grandkids still had a ball! Some employee dresses as Chuckie Cheese!
Awesome! I had no idea there was still one around. I grew up going to Show Biz Pizza and it was always an exciting outing for me and my sister...They used to do the song Just a Swinging- it was my favorite. Thank you so much for sharing with us!!
I loved Show Biz as a kid 😊 It was a different experience for me than Chuck E Cheese. The show Biz where I grew up turned into a Chuck E Cheese and they still keep the Animatronics on the stage they just were not used. 2012 was the last time I went there. It’s still open today and may still have them 🤷♀️ Great memories, Thanks ❤
This is cool! I too had no clue about the rockafire until I did research for a chick e cheese illustration 2 months ago. I too grew up with Chuck in the 80s, we didn’t Showbiz in RI. I’d love to go to this place!
So funny i wanted to show my young daughter that we had billy bobs when I was a kid and I was telling her I was really young and the band animals would freak me out and were kinda scary back in like 1992 lol and there’s a fresh video on the tube of billy bobs haha😂 - really cool !
I grew up loving Showbiz Pizza!! My 4th birthday was held at Show Biz Pizza which later became Chuck E Cheese. What a treat for you to take us along. Thanks so much. It truly brought back some really good memories for me, especially my Dad being there with me as a child. He passed when I was 20, and this really put a smile ony face. Thanks again!! So glad you got to share this experience together. ❤-Amy
Eee! I haven’t even got to watch this yet but I’m excited to! I used to travel to work to this city. Did you get to go to Frostop? Another vintage place that offers delish food and ice cream. Step back in time for sure. Ok will watch this and comment again :)
That carpet is the same as I remember as a kid! Back then, even the dining area was carpeted which is wild to think about but it sure was! I got a 45 record for my birthday from them. It had happy birthday one side and I don’t remember the other. I thought this place was IT as a kid. Thanks so much for sharing this!!!
Also one more thing because I’m memory lane-ing it, back then ….the dining area was also so dark so you were watching this and all these kids eating in the dark. Ah the 80s. So thankful to be an 80s kid. Lol
Now i know how billy bob's left hand moves left to right even when there is no cylinders in the arm its just the hand attached to a cylinder on the guitar and the arm is a floppy arm filled with cotton/fur thats how and also its the cool part that the head uses one cylinder to move right to left it should be the same with every animatronic
Wow, this brought back memories. I went to Show Biz Pizza back in the day. Took my daughter who was 3 or 4. I hated it when it changed to Chuckie Cheese. Anyway, back in the 70s, this was amazing. I'm from a small town in eastern ky. And this was about the greatest thing I ever saw. 😂😂😂😂 thanks for the video
Thoroughly enjoyed! I've been to Chuck E Cheese in the 90s as a kid a few times. Learned a little bit about it's predecessor a few years ago, being a reseller. I love animatronics and am also fascinated! Nostalgia stuff brings tears to my eyes even those I've never even seen Showbiz! PS, the dated lyrics 😂
You are a little incorrect on the history. Chuck E Cheese actually went bankrupt due to the Atari crash and Showbiz bought out PTT. They both continued together but Showbiz couldn’t just complete with themselves so they merged the two together. Creative Engineering who owned and created the Rock Afire Explosion didn’t want to give up the full owner ship of the RAE to Showbiz so instead Showbiz settled on the CEC band to stay in stores since they owned the rights to CEC. Because it was part of the deal agreement Creative and Showbiz had for Showbiz to buy the RAE show to appear in stores; Showbiz decided to kill two birds with one stone and turn the RAE into Munch’s make Believe Band. Creative had to then find other places to sell the show to since Showbiz no longer wanted the rights to the RAE. Because of the controversy around the whole situation and the downfall of people liking animatronics people thought Creative did the fall of Showbiz and hardly anyone wanted to buy a RAE. Billy Bob’s Wonderland is the only *public* place in the United States to contain the RAE since they used to be a Showbiz but because all Showbiz had to be rebranded to CEC and Billy Bob’s didn’t want to. They decided to branch away from Showbiz and rebrand themselves to Billy Bobs Wonderland. There are other places with the RAE and they are in private collections or other situations. Right now Creative is moving buildings but after they are finished you can go on tour at CEI to see the Rock Afire Explosion and the history of it. Sure it won’t be as nice as the original historic building but at least you get a tour. Smitty’s Super Service Station is a private collection of Pizza Time Theatre and Showbiz stuff including both shows. I think it’s in Mississippi but I’m not sure. All tours are free but you have to book one online. In a museum in Switzerland there is a decent Rock Afire that is still being restored. The masks are melted but the animatronics work fine. There are probably other places I haven’t mention but those are some of the most popular and how to get to them.
Showbiz Pizza bought out Chuck E. Cheese. It was easier to convert a Showbiz to Chuck E. than the other way. Showbiz had better characters movement than Chuck E.. I worked for Showbiz from 1983 through the conversion. I left in 1996. There is a whole story to the Rock A Fire Explosion.
