The simple answer to your question of how Kanzaburo XVII revived the name 55 years after the death of Kanzaburo XIII in 1885 is that Otani Takejiro (the founder of Shochiku) offered him the name. Why would Kanzaburo want to take the name? Well, all thanks to his grandfather (from his mother's side) Yamamoto Takejiro who loves traditional arts. When Kanzaburo was little, his grandfather read him a picture book featuring Nakamura Kanzaburo I. It might come out as a joke, but his grandfather told young Kanzaburo to take the name when he grow up and become a great actor. So when Otani Takejiro offered Kanzaburo the name, his grandfather's words strikes him and he accepted the name and became the famous Nakamura Kanzaburo XVII. Although this might sound made up, but it is translated from Kanzaburo XVII's book for real😂
