- Summer Roses - Clapboard Island, Maine
Oils were chosen for this studio painting. The cool light reflected from the sky gives the fence its soft shade of blue which contrasts favorably with the warm pink of the roses. A dark background is placed in the painting to help highlight the pale roses. Roger uses an impressionistic approach to this painting and shows how to suggest the flowers without the need to create lots of detail. Sarah visits a charming old rose garden on Clapboard Island.
Beautiful, one of my favorite paintings that you painted
Awesome artist 🐱
Beautiful!
The roses came out wonderfully!
I enjoyed this episode a lot, great job you two!
Absolutely stunning! I just love your approach as well as the fact that you use acrylics mostly. I paint in acrylics myself and have been experimenting with plain air. Your videos have helped me tremendously! Thank you!!
Hi...great lesson. I'm working on a painting with white picket fencing and greens peeking through the fencing. You gave me some great advise on colors for the fence and leaves. Thank you.
Glad you got some helpful information. Fences always make a painting more interesting when put in the right place and have the right lighting.
I am also going to paint a rose covered gate that leads into our community garden. I have a reference picture I took last year but going to take your advice and wait until summer to paint it in real life. Thanks for all your videos, I paint with acrylics so like to see lessons in that medium.
