One problem however with specializing the school system, which I have noticed is that most teenagers simply don’t know what they want to do. I’m currently in high school and among the people which I talk to, barely any of them have any detailed idea of what career they would like to pursue in the future. Often they might say stuff like ”I want to work with something that has do do with computers” or ”I want to work with something creative” but there are only a few handful of people that has actually got a clear idea of what they aspire to do. Thus specialising the education can be bad in that sense, especially if the students just follow their parents advice and end up with a career they never wanted. I hope we can find a path of balance in terms of this, but I really doubt a highly specialised school system is going to be helpful for most people.

There is some validity to this. It might even be bad for a majority of students if they were ripped out of their current bad education context and expected to pick a direction for the rest of their life relatively quickly. But that isn't how personalized and well designed education would be for the vast majority of it's students.
I loved history through every year of elementary school. I was blessed with actual good teachers and resources and curriculum during those years. I still remember a lot of what I learned then. When I was in middle school and high school in the 80s I was subjected to a lot of growing idealogical crap and revisionist history agenda and just bad teachers, some weren't very smart and some simply didn't teach at all and every single one of them seemed to be clearly lacking wisdom. I rediscovered my love of history quickly in a small Christian college with small class sizes and excellent intelligent teachers who cared tremendously. To this day I'd never regret any amount of specialized research or education into history regardless of not becoming a historian or anything related. In my adult life I discovered a love of anatomy and physiology classes. And that's ok to love to learn as an adult and to change your life. It's truly a terrible wrong that we have a system that actively, structurally beats the love of learning out of the majority of the students. It's grown so bad that it looks beyond saving to a lot of people who do absolutely have valid reasons for their views. People who love their children and people who care about the future need to be working hard to create new pathways operating very differently than the world of formal "schooling" of my lifetime.

These podcasts are probably the most important productions at present. They essentially bring to the surface all the major issues America is and will be facing. Within this conversation alone, they touched on practically everything one would hear from Elon Musk or Daniel Schmachtenberger when asked the question "what are the biggest problems facing America currently." It seems to me a way to make actual change in this world is to bring to light old ideas from the past that are tuned in just the right ways to face the issues today. They must come from individuals who genuinely care and aren't necessarily at the whim of whatever bureaucratic system employs them. There needs to be, in my opinion, a larger general awareness from the populus as a whole regarding issues that affect them. The founding fathers provided us with a system that, I say not encouraged, but demanded every citizen to be informed on government and issues at the present. However, I am also aware that change doesn't happen automatically when a sufficient quantity of ideas come together; there needs to be a way to unify the best of each idea and there needs to be people who have the necessary incentive to the action. I can only hope that those with the requisite skills- the idea makers and the action takers- can come together regardless of their political ideology, and work together to improve the current system. Nothing creates unity like a common enemy, as history tells us, look no further than the American Revolution itself. There are too many problems to list but perhaps the three biggest are the current world economic structure, the declining birth rate, and the massive mental health crisis. These are the things we need to create unity around and fight with all the vigor we have. I can only hope that we do this sooner rather than later.

One thing I majorly disagree with is the gym class take. I dont know how gym class is different over the ocean in America, but here in Europe its half playing sports and half physical activities to make the kids atleast a little healthier. Instead, this should be expanded to have a gym class every day of the week to combat the obesity pandemic with 3 physical activities a week, 1 sports and 1 class we used to have in Czechia called Military education, which teaches you how to use a gun, how to throw a grenade, how to survive in a war zone, self defense, etc. It would boost military recruitment, boost physical health among the population and make everyone tougher.
One thing I agree with however is that specialisation needs to be way stronger. Here in Europe with high schools specialised for a lot of jobs, like factory working, woodworking, programming, etc. and even collaborations with local businesses to teach how work is actually done, which is something I dont think you have in America. But there are subjects that still dont have any high schools but instead are only specialised in college. Good examples of this are physics, history, or literature. Lets say someone wants to study history. You cant go and directly specialise in it, but instead you have to go to an unspecialised high school and then to a university, instead of going directly into a history school for multiple years longer instead of learning subjects like maths, physics, biology, etc. which you wont need in a history setting. Specialised schools need to be more specialised with less subjects a person wont need for the field and there should be more specialised schools in general.

I definitely fall into the neurotic/borderline autistic camp and I did very well in school, but I'll be the first to admit that people like me shouldn't be running everything. Also, it amazes me that I am more functional than a lot of people despite having those shortcomings. That's when I realized how messed up modern society really is. I'm capable of handling some aspects of modern society such as the loneliness better so I can't imagine what it's like for people who are not naturally like that and are stuck in those situations. I am not perfect and have a long way to go but at least I've been able to recognize my shortcomings and slowly improve while honing my strengths, which has largely been self taught or through advice from people close to me.

Through my highschool career i never got the classes i asked for and that made my young self dislike the school system to the point where i just quit going. If you want children to succeed and have aspiration, the system needs t let the choice be the students. You gentleman are amazing, thank you for the great content and giving a glimmer of hope.

I would disagree about Marek's analysis of the classes. I think that the middle class while the most important in democracy is also the most ignored.
The rich know how to evade taxes or lobby the politicians to influence the system itself. On the other hand the poor don't have that influence but they have the support of the politicians. Politicians talk all the time about how no one should starve, how we must support the poor etc.
But the middle class basically pays everything and doesn't have enough power to influence things as easily as the rich.

The idea that respect only accrues from living to 60 in a place and time where few do, is not only immature and foolish, it's ignorant and incorrect. I'm 54 and the idea everyone was just dying off was never true of my generation, my parent's generation, or my grandparent's generation. It's also historically skewed towards an ideology or attitude rather the fact based, in light of the history of the world where various societies had varying levels of higher mortality for many different things such as child birth or infant mortality or loss of children up to certain young-ish ages OR sometimes deaths in young adulthood from a variety of very specific factors for some societies. The concept of respecting parents and elders is a societal need that serves a purpose and is taught in multiple societies but abandoned in this particularly weird society that we are in with relatively stupid justifications to make rebellious thinking seem smart to people who just want to think that way. My generation certainly did a lot of that particular brand of stupidity as did a the generation before mine. Having good examples of your parents being wrong about something is just reality. But it does not equal any of what was apparently concluded here about the topic. Reasonably wise people work through learning from the good and the bad of previous generations who effected them while striving to be the best they can be in their own ever changing context. All of the ideas that followed had merit on their own without the need for the rebelliousness justified argument. Do that. Make good and valid points about the merits or lack thereof of gym classes and overly emphasized and poorly structured stem, and results based analysis of said supposedly well intentioned programs.
