      Guy, your videos give me so much satisfaction. I have been a hairstylist/business owner since the 90s until a car accident in 2013 left me unable to work. You know how it's in the blood. I miss it very much, but have come into an understanding that this is part of my life story and I must move on. Having you be so open with your profession has allowed me to feel like part of the team. I had several girls working for/with me in my salon and there was always drama of some degree.
      If you ever make it to Alabama, I would love to say hello to you.

I actually tried henna (which is completely natural, my mom bought it in Saudi Arabia, and it was not in a box) before when I was really young, like about 9 years old. I've wanted to have brown hair, but the henna didn't do much since my hair is black. It's already cut out long ago, but when I was 13, I started seeing brown highlights at my hair, idk y

    Had something similar happen to me with a client recently. Now she wants to get me fired for "fucking up her hair" when in fact she dyed it several times herself and lying about it. Gotta love people.
    Edit: to give you more details. This girl already seemed to have pretty thin/fragile hair and at first told me she just put on some semi permanent dye and she wanted some highlights. I told her I can't promise her the outcome she wants because even semi permanent colors (which turned out to be a lie, she used box dye a few times) can change how the hair lifts. She wanted it anyways and since I just started at that Salon, I didn't want to send away a new customer. In the end, she did not like the highlights because they weren't platinum white but more of a honey blonde. That evening she put on some ash brown (again, boxdye) at home because a friend told her that might help (how?!), then came in the next day and wanted me to light up her hair again. I told her that I can only put over something without H2o2 because otherwise her hair would literally burn off and that that would make her hair darker again - but at least it would be a solid color again. When we were done she ran off without paying or even saying something and then wrote an angry email to my boss that she didn't get the platinum highlights she wanted (which i told her from the start were pretty much impossible to achieve with this dark brown base to work on).
    I hope this clears up a few things.

    I had a client who lied about what was on her hair before we lightened it. She was under the dryer for maybe 5 minutes when she called me over saying her head was on fire in the foils. I felt them and it felt like I was touching a curling iron that had been left on all day. I freaked and dragged her to the bowl and being quickly taking out the foils and washing it out. Her hair was literally SMOKING. Steam was coming out of the foils. I was so scared her hair was going to be all gone. THANKFULLY her hair was ok and didn't fall out or feel bad. But it wasn't until that happened that she decided to tell me she lied about having virgin hair and had been using henna color for years. This is why it's so important to be honest about what's on your hair, because her hair could have literally melted off at the root.

(Bad henna meaning it was mixed with chemicals or other stuff) Natural henna shouldn't start smoking or turn green if mixed with hair lightening products. Real Henna can be lightened, but it will turn orange. It's pretty much impossible to get out completely.

Chemical dye and henna just don’t mix and I dyed a friends hair REF over henna with Demi permanent dye and it still turned green in places!! T de Lioncourt the point being made is that anything with metallic salts isn’t just henna. Henna by itself is never going to damage the hair and can be colored over or bleached with no problem. I would know as I’ve been coloring my own hair with body art quality pure henna for over 15 years. I’ve bleached and colored certain parts. No problems. Ever.
      If it has metallic salts it’s compound henna and the henna isn’t to blame. It takes a moment online to see you should never use anything advertised as a henna hair dye. If it’s already mixed for you with other compounds it’s a no. If it says it will make your hair anything except orange in color, it’s a no.
      The frustration from users is hair professionals not knowing what henna is and isn’t. If they used a pre boxed henna concoction it might be a problem. Again, it’s not the henna that is the problem it’s the metallic salts.
      Also, henna is completely permanent. You can bleach it out and it will be lighter orange which you can tone, but pure henna will always stain orange and it creates a bond with the keratin in your hair which thickens the hair strand and stains it orange. So under any other color you out in it will always make it a warmer tone. It is difficult to ever get an ashy color to stay on top of henna because synthetic dyes just fill the hair strand and when they fall out they leave the orange pigment that has bonded to the core of the hair behind. Henna can’t be cool or ashy toned and anyone who advertises that it can is selling you something that will damage your hair.
      You only ever want to use body art quality henna. If it’s safe to leave soaking into your skin for 12 hours at full strength it’s safe to use on your hair extremely diluted.

      There are some boxed hennas out there with different colours with other plants already mixed in it, they are 100% natural, but some people seem to forget that there was not just pure henna.
      I myself already bought me some boxed brown henna and there was henna, indigo, cassia and amla in it.
      I'm sure that's her case here...

    I just want to say that I find all of your work amazing and it’s inspiring me to go forward with loving color and not being afraid to try new things. I’m entirely self taught, I do my own research with my mom’s friend who studied at Aveda gave me her books, and I’ve been doing hair for my friends even their other friends. I love it! I’m really wanting to go to school to specifically do color outside of finishing my degree in BA English and Psychology. To be honest I wish I had more access to your colors and line as I’d love to learn more of your techniques and color. I just wish it was more accessible to maybe Sally’s outside of Cosmoprof.

      It’s a line for licensed professionals, I don’t think Guy would be putting his stuff into Sally’s anytime soon (I don’t really see him ever doing it tbh). Unfortunately with every cosmo school I know of you can’t just do color, you have to learn everything. Once you start working you get to choose what you do and do not do though. You can always go to cosmo school after you finish your degree(s) and you can just carry your cosmo license and renew as necessary for your state, that way you’d have access to Guy line and would be able to legally profit off your work and get high quality products too!

    Aaaand this is why henna gets a bad rep. Henna is amazing for making your hair healthy and shiny and strong, however if you lie to your hair dresser there is a HUGE chance that you can melt your hair off. Henna itself doesn't react badly, but when it has INDIGO in the henna mix, thats when things get scary. You can always go darker over indigo but you cannot lighten it with bleach, it has a very bad chemical reaction that literally melts the hair.

    • @lalaith4375
      @lalaith4375 4 роки тому +1

      I used Henna quite for some time. In January this year I thought I give Indigo a try. But now I totally regret it. It is impossible to get it out of the hair. You can’t lighten it up. No Color Remover will help. It has to grow out and will take at least a few years. I will never use it again!!!

    • @BeccaMarie39
      @BeccaMarie39 4 роки тому +1

      @@lalaith4375 I used henna for years, I loved it. It was only when I tried out indigo that things went wrong. It was also my fault for doing almost no research on it (I was 17 and thought my hair could handle everything lol). I tried using ColorOops over it and my whole head of hair turned green 😅 It took me 2 years to completely grow it out and I had to keep dying it red until it was all gone. Since then I have never touched my hair with it. However my mum uses indigo/henna every month for her hair and she absolutely loves it, however she is also never going to dye her hair lighter, so it works for her. So, point of the story is that if you want to change up your hair often, never use indigo. Henna itself is completely fine to bleach over, it will just take some work.

    • @tdelioncourt1268
      @tdelioncourt1268 4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! I used to do all natural henna (part of the bad rep is because of metallic salts that can be added and react badly with bleach/dye) and found my hair beautiful with it!
      And when I got bored I had zero issue when I bleached it, I just knew that I couldn't go blonde and was going to keep corper highlights until henna grows out.
      The problem is people using henna without knowing what's in it + people expecting they can change color easily after doing henna.
      (it's like people who expect they can go from black to platinium in one go ^^)
