I think purring basically is a health check sound. kittens do it to report they're doing great and are comfortable - the parent doesn't need to worry or check in on it / them closer. then like many things they keep that behavior because they're pets and doesn't grow out of it. i think it can almost be translated to a human baby (or grown up) saying "mMmMMm..." when given e.g something delicious to eat (for example), it also serves as a report that all is perfect.

That is true, but purring can also mean that your cat is anxious. My cats purr at the Vet where they hate to be. That is out of anxiety of being there. Also cats who are sick will purr. This is why it's important to note other signs your cat will give you so that the purring sound will have some context. Thank you for sharing, I appreciate you engaging here.

@@clubcatitude cool, i didn't know that, i wonder if its in the same Hz or if its a different purr (to humans maybe it sounds the same).

Interesting question, so I took to the Google machine and asked. I got a great response basically explaining what I wrote above but it ignored the part about it being a different frequency of sound. The best answer is that purring is a sound that can mean many things based on the context of the purr.
