NO, attieké is a cassava couscous. it's not gari and it's not the fish or side dish. Attieké is just the couscous. You can eat it in many different ways. You can have it with fried or grilled fish, with grilled or sautéed meat or chicken, with all kinds of soups, some people eat it with omelet or even a vegan version with avocado and cucumber. Attieké can be white or yellow (when it's infused with palm oil) with very fine grains or bigger ones. Ivorians can tell the geographical provenance depending on the texture, taste and grain size and we give slightly different names to the different "varieties".

@@papa22631 A lot of Cameroonians have made a mission of dissing Ivorian cuisine, or Ivorian anything for that matter. Attieke has been a target of their malignant campaign for ages. Calling Attieke Gari (a food they consider low quality food) is intentionally disrespectful. So yeah, when I see a Cameroonian doing that, my first reaction is abrasive. Then she tells me she did that comparaison in good faith and I get it.
Gastronomy is a big part of people's culture so yes, pride is involved. I've never said anything is better than any other. I'm just saying it's not the same thing and that's a fact. The cooking process is not the same and it tastes and feels different.
So you should practice what you preach, humble yourself, ask for the backstory or the context of a conversation before jumping in and making a fool of yourself.
