I totally understand what you mean about it taking forever to style your curls! It used to take me forever too, but I think one of the best things I learned (which took time) was so embrace my curls however they end up after wash day and to not worry so much about them looking perfect, whatever that means to you. Just throw some product in and let the curls run wild! (Also, I think shorter layers might help with your “Weird Al” situation lmao but I’m sure your hairstylist would have better advice!)
I have curly hair as well, though not as curly as yours. I use a foam and a cream mixed together and rake it through my hair then follow up with light gel and do the same. I scrunch then scrunch with a towel. I usually let it air dry. Yes, it's not perfect, but hair never is. My routine takes less than 5 minutes. I think you just have to embrace the imperfections! I think your hair styled curly always looks good, even when you don't like the products. Embrace it girl! :)
I have thick 2b/2c wavy hair and I’ve been mostly blow drying and straightening since the 6th grade. A lot of people don’t believe me when I tell them wearing my hair natural is way more work than blow drying it straight! The amount of research and trial and error that goes into figure out routines and products, then the amount of time you spend doing the actual routine, and then you sleep on it and wake up looking insane and refreshing your hair is a whole other process. I’m in one of those phases where I’m really trying to embrace my waves, but it’s so hard sometimes not to just say screw it and pull out the straightener! 😓
Hell yes! I have 3a/3b. People either tell me my natural hair isn't natural or think I wake up with my hair perfect. I don't know why 😂 I've been wearing mine natural since I was 14, and I'm 34 now. At this point, I don't look like me without it curly. It took a lot to recover it from flat ironing and heat styling and then again from Autoimmune disease. My hair was a completely different texture when I first started wearing it curly. The curl pattern changed a lot. It is hard to maintain, tho! It's been through a lot. More than anything, I kind of had to embrace the craziness of the curl.
@@frumtheground That’s amazing that you’ve been wearing it curly for so long! I’m 31 and have like a month every couple years where I try to embrace my waves and then I just give up. Learning to accept the unpredictability and chaos of waves/curls is definitely part of it I think. I’m scheduled to get a shag cut next Tuesday though so finally trying to just commit to it!
I was the same about my curly routine, just using my denman and it taking absolutely forever. The more you stick to a good curly product routine your curls will get healthier so you won’t have to do but about a couple of framing pieces if you want.
Hi Jamie. I hope you have a love-ly day. I just wanted to note that I rediscovered you a few weeks back after a break from watching youtube actively. this video came just in time as I've been focusing more on my overall beauty routine!
Perioral dermatitis is such a pain, off course consult with your physician and dermatologist, but I HIGHLY recommend you to use metronidazole cream. It does actually work OVERNIGHT and in a week you’ll be cured, talking about a personal experience and it literally saved my skin. Plus is something you can use long term, in the sense you’ll have a flare up and you can immediately put and next day back to normal. Ps you look stunning with curls
Curly girl here 🙋🏻♀️ I go the diffuser- gel route only on special occasions, as I wash my hair 2-3 times a week easily. I let my curls airdry after applying some curl cream & serum, once they are about 80-85% dry I apply dry hair cream, it's not the best but it's good enough for everyday situation! I lost my curls years ago due to excess heat styling, not taking any chances! Your curls look great by the way :)
Jamie, I love your hair color! I highly recommend you invest in a dryer bonnet attachment for diffusing. Hands free, minimum effort, even distribution of heat, and the best results achieving soft, defined curls.
You know, I used to get bad hormonal breakouts on my chin and nose etc. I found that after introducing a toner (from a fabfitfun box), my acne cleared significantly, and when I wasn’t using one it would flare up again. I have used several different toners, and they all work the same, they keep my hormonal acne (especially) at bay! It truly works wonders but I never knew why until now!
because the oil is such a large molecule it takes a little time for it to actually get into the scalp so just having it on for 30 min or a few hours lets it just sit on the surface and not do much. but by having it overnight, the hair can slowly absorb everything necessary from the scalp oil during the night and then in the morning you should be quite dry because then it is ready to be rinsed off,😀☺️
girl you are brave to continue in that routine. i say that because i naturally have curly hair and i rarely straighten so it’s important to me that my time is efficient. so i stopped doing all the work, i brush my hair in the shower with styling cream & finishing outside the shower with mouse or gel. if i really defined curls i just use the denman brush in specific areas, but honestly i haven’t even doing that. i kinda like my curls being more style on their own instead of the perfect curl the denman brush gives you! our hair is very similar in texture so maybe it’s worth a try?!
We have very similar hair. I found that having the right conditioner has made my hair soooo much more manageable. For me the only conditioner that has worked for me is the Pattern medium hair conditioner. It's my HG. I swear I don't work for pattern but I'd love to see you try it. Also I use the R+Co Sun Catcher. No hate - I think the silicones in the product keep it from being frizzy.
Silicones do help. People don’t understand that formulas have changed over the years. They are so much better than they used to be. Silicones aren’t the devil.
You know, my old hair routine was to grow it out until I couldn’t stand it and then chop it alllll off. I love drastic changes and I love giving ppl a little holy cow moment when they see me looking so different. I do this about 1-2x a year. My hairstylist friend said that since my hair is naturally wavy, if I get into a curl routine, my hair might actually get super wringlet-styled. I love drastic changes so I’m already looking into getting shampoo and products for curly hair. I’m way too impatient to do a routine like yours, but I am going to try and embrace my natural curls and see how naturally curly they can be!
Your hair is absolutely stunning! I have curly hair, but I ruined it from straightening for years. I’ve had a year of no heat on it. It’s just a big fluffy frizzy mess, and one side is permanently flat, the curls have dropped. I’m going to try rebuild them myself, thank you for the idea!
Jamie I'm in LOVE with your curls and I even notice your hair color looks different depending on the texture! If you and manes by mel did a collab I would simply D I E.
try innate life hair n scalp products it's a Canadian locally owned small company n makes incredible hair products!! I pay extra n ship them to the us as they are soo good!!
I recently cut my very long and curly hair and I am loving the short curly vibe but it does take a long time! Your hair is gorgeous and the whole look is very modern and sexy
The more I wore my hair naturally curly the more I got used to seeing myself that way. Yes it takes a lot of work but you get faster, and now i feel weird with my hair straightened and just want to wash it a get the curls back. Also I think your curls will improve (meaning less time and product to style) if you don’t straighten often. I used to have curl rage but no more ❤❤
Hey Jamie, I think it makes sense you want a hair change, I like your hair brown as well and you have been red for a while. Short bob would be nice but also less damaging than red ..xo
I totally agree with you about curls. No, they're not easier, quicker, or consistent. I'm in my 5th year of curly. It's a learning curve for me, even as a licensed stylist. Be careful of hair perfumes, denatured alcohol is the first ingredient and is drying.
Go hard, lady! Goodness knows there aren't enough stylists out there who know curly hair! My mom is a hair stylist, and she never knew what to do with my hair (still doesn't). She tries styling my hair like she styled in the 80s 😅
Curly girl rage is real! 😂 most of the time I use a flat iron. Thanks for the pamper inspo! It's been a while since I've had a full body, self pamper day ❤️
Hi, I think you would really benefit from the product calming relief by Physiogel. It is for irritated and red skin which is available in the pharmacies in Germany. It helped me a lot because I overloaded my skin with product :/ And the hair perfume should be without alcohol to not damage your hair - that’s the difference :) Thanks for the curly routine. I am constantly trying new products and putting them on my wishlist! Still trying to figure out how to handle them and probably always will 😅 curly girl rage - can definitely relate xD
You need to try not your mothers curl products! All their styling products are so good and their naturals/& curl bond shampoos and conditioners are my fav!
actually the oil hasn't done much in 30 min you have to leave it on overnight to actually get all the benefits and nutrition from the oil scalp the oil think like this for a serum to help you don't rinse it off, and you have to massage for 5 min before the oil so that the blood flow is on and ready and take up the oil and then massage it in for 5 min so that your scalp can absorb it into the scalp😊
You forgot to mention that you have to have patience! Lol. When doing your routine! Learned a lot, thanks Jamila! You’re makeup is fierce! What’s on your lips?? Details please….❤ P.S-When is your Mama going to make another video appearance!?
Hi, I'm a retired esthetician. I would recommend asking around and go with word of mouth recommendations. If that's not possible, then make an appointment for a consultation, most will offer them for free. If you like what they have to say, book a mini, basic facial, 30 minutes. You'll know pretty quickly whether they are right for you or not. It make take a few tries but will be worth the effort. Hope that helps and good luck in your search.
@@leslie_rish Thank you! I found a dermatologist I want to try and will ask her. My sister is an aesthetician but in Manitoba. Will follow your advice with testing it out... 🙂
If u don’t want to change ur hair color but want a change, & u want it longer, why not get extensions? There are so many options now that will not damage ur hair. Also, if u want volume and take less time, why don’t u flip ur head over and Diffuse ur whole crown without the clips, that will get the job done, also stop twisting ur curls and let the natural pattern come thru.
I love watching pamper routines. As someone who also has KP, I haven't dry brushed befoee but I definitely will now. I have curly hair too and I love the Olaplex clarifying shampoo too. I agree with you that most clarifying shampoos are way too stripping. I've been wanting to try Vegamour products so I'm happy to see you trying some of their products
