    This is so amazing. My goal, in the future, is to help people with neurological disabilities, i.e. dyslexia, by using information from the brain. I do not think the answer to help is to give them medicine but instead look at the brain patterns. My mother always said when I was little, “if there was a magic pill that could help you read, I would have given it to you, but there is no magic pill.” and “I may not be able to help you, but you can help others like you.” This technology will help in the field so other can build upon your work and everyone can eventually benefit.

      I was watching the video thinking it was funny that they make it sound like they invented something, but then you realize that EEG and such devices have been around for decades! This is just a DIY version for the public with less functionality and precision designed strictly for public consumption...but don't get me wrong, it is super cool and I totally want one! :)

      @@drinksanddice9528 Hey it's funny in a sad way. I've spent a few weeks reverse engineering it, and the board won't be under $100, but smart marketing , more efficient production and better use cases can make it more mainstream.

    • @drinksanddice9528
      @drinksanddice9528 3 роки тому +1

      @@TWFDeadzoneII I actually pulled the open source designs off their github and I don't think they ever intended OpenBCI to ever be DIY, the design is 100% surface mountable, there are a few parts in the BOM that were custom sourced, and the miniUSB and Bluetooth components aren't a standard pinout (or made by anyone anymore). Its like they took someone else's design said it was open source to not get sued but then reconfigured things just enough that no one could easily reproduce the end product.

    If they really want to help people then make it less expensive, it's $400 for the EEG Electrode Cap Kit, which is a swimming cap with a chinstrap, a syringe and a cleaning brush.

    O_O I dont have a 3d printer. I dont have a computer, but I have a Galaxy S7..... I want one. I want to keep toying and tinkering with it until it understands what Im thinking. Until I can focus solely on ideas or actions (without the muscle movement) and it will react properly. When I have money to spare, I want to spend it furthering THIS.
    Near limitless possibilities, excites me so!

    If we can map our own brain's frequencies to create keyboards for people with moto function disabilities and impairments, does this mean it's also possible to use this technology to communicate with animals? Similar to how dogs use buttons to communicate wants and needs with a speaker that says "walk" or "treat", we can use this technology to skip the buttons and go straight to animal-human translation using mapped brainwaves.

    Could be dangerous. My mind and body are hurt because I trusted that good people had my best intentions at heart. How could someone be so angry that they would force my body into a state of degeneration. I've tried so many different ways to recover. I want to live a long and healthy life.

    Lol yeah sure... “affordable”... guys don’t waste your money, get their free software, and get the rest from hardware components websites. They are selling those with a ridiculous mark up. They wanna make it “accessible” for everyone for the quadruple of price. Most of the things are on the github anyways so get an audrino and look for a tutorial how to get it on. Don’t waste your cash.

    LOVE this. I've watched a few videos now, but I'm unclear on how the brainwaves are translated by the software to talk to the mechanics of the machine. What software is used? Is there an informational video someone can point me to on how programmers use this tech?

      Probably all developing technologies and all under proprietary agreements, meaning non or very little of these things/programs would be available to market/open to the public (open source).
      Technologies like this can be as big as a corporation as Apple later down the line, therefore they're un likely to release these things until other companies come into the field and stir up competition that way. Eventually they might do it themselves, given how Nvidia and OpenAI have done so.

    LOL they are charging way too much for what is essentially a bunch of plastic and bits of metal. No way those chips cost that much to manufacture. You could get 3 whole ass top of the line computers for the price of this thing. They've been around for years and still haven't brought down the prices.
