This set reminded me the Disco Friday sessions played by Zag on Twitch. Yes, I miss that. As usual in these weeks, there are some songs that I couldn't identify even by applying triple redundancy (SoundHound, Deezer's SongCatcher and Google Assistant), so feel free to tell what these songs are. Follows below the setlist with timestamps: 1) 0:18 "" () Couldn't identify other than the following verses: "the apple is nice", "the apple is sweet", "desperately trying to get yourself a place", "or your death shall be a mystery to the FBI" and "the apple is there for everyone to share". The record has a central art most in a yolk yellow with a red part on the bottom; 2) 5:03 "Can't Stop Rasta Now" (Ras Midas); 3) 11:37 "Why I Came to California" (Leon Ware); 4) 15:40 "Labirinto (Extended Nick The Record Version)" (Os Famks); 5) 20:43 "" () Couldn't identify; 6) 24:06 "" () Couldn't identify other than "stop the beat"; 7) 28:05 "Feel The Real (Micky More & Andy Tee Classic Mix)" (Incognito); 8) 32:59 "" () Couldn't identify other than a sample of a famous disco song; 9) 35:47 "Love and Happiness" (I don't know what version is and doesn't match to any of the versions. The record has an central art all red on an almost Rosso Modena tone); 10) 39:17 "Emmanuel" (The SHOWFA); 11) 44:19 "" () Couldn't identify, but the record is a compact with a central art in pastel tones ranging from pink to blue with something like "AOC II" written on it; 12) 46:58 "Too Many Games (Extended M+M Mix)" (Maze); 13) 51:07 "" () Couldn't identify other than being sung in French and the central art of the record being in dark green, a bell-like yellow shape and a dark red form that looks like female hair that can be seen on 50:09; 14) 54:57 "Willing And Able" (Darryn Jones); 15) 56:58 "Perdoname (Sunlightsquare Edit)" (The Sunburst Band & Sunlightsquare); 16) 1:01:40 "Isn't She Lovely" (Stevie Wonder, but on a remix that wasn't identified).

Damn, they should be called the The Slap Brothers. Because they slap you in the face with unknown gems after unknown gems. What a track selection, dudes!
The track on the 18:00 is from the old formation of the brazilian group called back then The Famks. Now they are know as Roupa Nova they have almost the same formation andnare making more commercial musics, which are good but not perfect as it was when they were the Famks. The guys are on the road for almost 50 years
Charlie Dark is a London legend. Attica Blues. His famed n groovy Blacktronica nights overlooking London's river Thames..But must say, he should have dropped some of his dub step collection from his 10,000 vinyl stack! Mr Dark always brings the light!
I'd like to thank Charlie Dark and Zag for putting the Brazilian disco scene to be played for all the planet. Listening to a Os Famks' song is great specially considering that even here in Brazil people don't know much about the local disco artists. There are even non-disco artists that left their contribution to this rhythm. Considering this, I'll leave some artist suggestions: 1) Lady Zú. Her best known song is "A Noite Vai Chegar" (ua-cam.com/video/2U6324df94Q/v-deo.html), but there are other ones, like "Disco Dance (ua-cam.com/video/GQtCyO28FJA/v-deo.html) and a version of "A Banda" (ua-cam.com/video/wdmqMcomzSs/v-deo.html) that I consider way better than Chico Buarque's original one; 2) Dudu França. His main success is "Grilo na Cuca" (ua-cam.com/video/fSihg1dpjAg/v-deo.html); 3) Frenéticas. They made a lot of songs to our local soap operas and maybe they are the most successful and known ones in this scene. Their most known song is "Dancin' Days" (ua-cam.com/video/BZtDGUdfhNQ/v-deo.html), the same name of a very famous soap opera with Sônia Braga playing the main role. Ther are also others, like "O Preto que Satisfaz (Feijão Maravilha)" (ua-cam.com/video/bB_q5eqT2Uo/v-deo.html); 4) Ronaldo Resedá. This guy died early, but left some good songs, like "Kitsch Zona Sul" (ua-cam.com/video/UQQATN-6FyA/v-deo.html); 5) Carlos Dafé. This guy is more of our local soul scene, but recorded some songs on the disco beat, like "Escorpião" (ua-cam.com/video/ToEqFYFlivs/v-deo.html); 6) Rabo de Saia had an interesting song called "Ripa na Xulipa" (ua-cam.com/video/61QzoFaYDQY/v-deo.html); 7) Rita Lee. She is nicknamed the "rock's aunt", but also flirted with disco, as can be seen in "Corre Corre", a huge success on late 1970s (ua-cam.com/video/VtXfwlw1cHA/v-deo.html); 8) Tim Maia. As Carlos Dafé, he was more on our soul scene, but this didn't hinder him to make some contributions, like the ones seen on the "Disco Club" album, the one he immediately recorded after going out from a cult called Cultura Racional. In this album, one song that is hugely famous here is "Acenda o Farol" (ua-cam.com/video/WzwPy8qLTKQ/v-deo.html); 9) Elis Regina. Even she made a contribution on the form of "Aprendendo a Jogar" (ua-cam.com/video/HIvp4-yJTKk/v-deo.html). These are some possibilities for a Brazilian disco music set.
@@paulrouhan7288 I attended a presentation of Dafé at Sesc Pompeia six years ago. It was great not only listening him singing his songs but also telling some stories of his life, like the day when he was to show some lyrics to Fábio Jr. but missed the reunion because Tim Maia asked him to go to his home. Dafé is such a nice guy that even telling some bat parts of his life he manages to do this in a soft way. He reminded me a bit the way Paulinho da Viola or Milton Nascimento tell about a given episode on their careers.
If I lived in London, I would be camped outside the door of the Jazz Cafe waiting to hear your jam session. What a line up! Wish it could be livestreamed. I would buy a livestream pass, Super happy to wake up too early and see that this was already uploaded. Tried to stay in bed, but less than six minutes in, I had to get up and dance. Not a bad way to start Sunday! This is definitely my kind of church service. I like the order of the songs...it is the perfect juxtaposition of sound and beat. Blessings to you all.
I don't live in the UK, and i don't frequent London much. Last time I was there was over 4 years ago. Coincidentally a few months ago I randomly planned a weekend to London with a friend. I was kinda regretting it cause for the same money i can be in Berlin for twice as long and Berlin has an amazing music scene. 2 weeks ago, i saw the post on social media about the Jazz cafe session. EXACTLY on the weekend I'm in London. Holy crap! Talk about fortune smiling on me. I`ll be posting some stuff from there on instagram, so just look for the jazz cafe tag then :)
Far away from those old London haunts now, but conjuring echoes of Subterrania, The Cage/Factory at Carnival, later Blacktronica @ ICA, Jazz Cafe, Mau Mau Bar Ladbroke Grove, Portibello Studios, The Fridge, Plastic People, Broadcite and a load more. Plus all the cool beautiful ppl who used to get down and sweaty.
Absolutely loved it ❤️played it while packing our labor bag with my partner and danced so much 😅 couldn’t help but imagine playing this to my kid some time soon and vibe with him 😌😌
