Coach, I was watching byu vs st Mary’s last night and you’re right, they do run this and it ran well. I’m going to install for my boys middle school team as another offense with circle that we run. Thanks for your insight on the offense
Thanks Kevin. I highly advise watching Volume 2 as well. ua-cam.com/video/a9K33VWVPQU/v-deo.html&t
Very nice offense 🔥
Running this with my 6th grade girls. Hardest part for mine is the DHO so we pass into the wing a lot followed by the first screen. I see your girls did the same occasionally. Can’t thank you enough!
The self deprecating opening comment was awesome…=sub
Weakside Pindown Screen set by the Inbounder/Trailing Big other post player would be awesome.
I like this coach. Think of installing with my girls. Along with euro ball screen motion. How efficient is it with high school kids?
With the right group very much so. There's reads to teach and you need to help them with different coverages but I've found once they're used to it they just "play" out of the offense. Once AAU season is over I'm going to make a volume 2 video for Pistol
Awesome . I can’t wait to see part 2. Thanks for answering my question.
Coach, these are amazing videos. How much are you using this compared with your "Circle" offense? Do your players decide on the floor which offense they are running or are you calling from the bench or during timeouts? Thanks!
I run Pistol or a variation of it, especially with the right personnel. Circle I still use, but not as much as a main offense. More as a change up. Glad you enjoy the vids!
@@billabner What offense do you use when you have 2 "bigs" (not super mobile) and 3 guards? Thanks!
@@FL-cw4pk If the bigs aren't skilled but can screen, I'll run blocker/mover wheel. If they can score or have some shooting ability i like euro ball screen -- or you can still run wheel.
Hey, coach I was wondering if I could pick your brain about some drills to put into our practice plan for developing the skills for this offense.
Hey coach, I see several examples of the Pistol Offense where the guard is passing the ball instead of a DHO. What are your thoughts on that? Any advantages of one vs the other?
Yes that's another way to run Pistol. We call that Pistol Up -- see my Vol 2 for that
Coach, can you share the reads that you teach your guards in this offense?
Sorry Ben I just saw this. I don't want to complicate it for the kids so the reads are basic:
When teams switch the DHO -- keep and split.
Post hedges the screen -- quick reversal or throwback and look for the roller
If a guard gets to the paint -- attack until stopped then pass from where the help came from
If the corner defender denies the DHO -- Backdoor
Guards keep going under the DHO/Screen -- Look to shoot
if that's a good shot for that player
I have diagrams of this if you need it.
@@billabner thanks coach.
Bmurphy@sad55.org if you want to send anything my way. Enjoyed the circle offense video too.
@@billabner hi coach can I get diagrams and content you're happy to send. soul.sulejman@gmail.com
Pretty remarkable that I don't see teams hedge & trap some of these ball screens.
If teams are blitzing (trapping) ball screens we will adjust and not stay in the continuity. Teams that hedge them--we like when teams do this because we'll focus on throwbacks or swings to hit the post on a triangle pass or a reverse seal if it's a throwback.
Do you have diagrams?
Great video breakdown, Coach. Saw an AAU team over the summer running the Pistol offense, maybe it was your team! But anyhoo. I spoke to the Coach after the game and she gave me a 10-15 minute breakdown of the offense. Love this video and this offense. Definitely looking to had this offense at the high school level for my girl's team. Keep u posted on how things workout. Thanks again for sharing this video with us.
Thanks coach. If you have any questions just let me know. Good luck -- it's a fun offense to run with the right group.
