So sad. I had a client whose wife died and he didn’t know how to do anything in the home. I was often on the phone with him and looked up college courses for those that needed help and company. He signed up for a cooking course first. I was a road traffic litigator of all things. I often think of him.

      @@landang7906 Hi,
Your questions are valid. I think at first he lied about his name until he felt a connection with her. Once he realizes that connection he felt comfortable revealing his real name. He might have eventually told her where he lived. Maybe the director didn't show that part to the audience. We might have to assume she did get his address and then called an ambulance. I think keeping him on the phone talking is a priority in her profession. I hope that answers your question. I just loved that the conversation she had with John might have had something to do with her being on a date with the guy in her office.

Such a powerful short video. I lost my brother 2 years ago he took his life after his wife died from covid, the deep sadness I feel for his loneliness and his desperation will be with me for a very long time. I will always feel guilty that my attention and love for him wasn't enough. All we can do is love them.

He took his life on Valentine’s Day and as the anniversary day approaches I’ve decided to do something positive and special to remember him, plant a tree or something?

Suicide always is the cowardly approach. You think you're escaping your pain, but in reality you're just traumatizing the people you leave behind, leaving them to bear the pain for the rest of their lives. As someone with suicidal thoughts and impulses for 20 years, this awareness is what held me back. I knew I'd be punishing everyone else to escape my pain. We all have pain. Dumping mine on others while I exit would have been the ultimate selfishness.

And if you ever feel like you don't want to go on, or you express that you may have tried in the past, they treat you so strangely. You'll want to shut your mouth and not open it again. That film is Maudie.. based on the life of Maude Lewis, who is very well known indeed in Canada. A reproduction of the tiny hpuse where she and her abusive husband lived ( the film was very kind to him ) is now displayed at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. I think the fillm is now on Netflix.... in Canada anyway.

What a kind and compassionate soul Sally Hawkins played here & with SO much heart!! God Bless Her Kind -Those who give of themselves to comfort another in need!! The ones who do good work in these crisis centers, definitely get drained after a hard days work, I would imagine. But they can take comfort in knowing that when Karma comes around, they'll deserve the goodness they gave out.
"Kindness & Compassion" is such a wonderful Combination of The God Within us!! I believe GOOD & GOD are ONE, & although we all have good within us, some of us most defiantly have more, than others for sure. "Be Kind whenever possible, and it's always possible" - The Dalai Lama. What a lovely Film!!✌

This is what film is all about. Or should be. In 21 and a half minutes it quickens your heart and brings tears to your eyes. I thought I recognized Mr. Broadbent's voice. Wonderful character actor. Film evokes emotion and stops time for the viewer. I love short films. They are very often more powerful that two hours of a full length feature.

I do watch a lot of short films be that Dust, Omeleto or other independent films. I'm very familiar with the seasoned actors, but I've never had the privilege of watching Sally Hawkins until now. This was such an emotionally charged & powerful piece of work to see unfold, it certainly brought a lump to my throat, to see the crisis line volunteer frantically trying to work out through her files where Stanley/John lived before the pills really kicked in. This was an expertly crafted production to watch.

As someone who's dying (probably in a few month, but who knows) the thing that's on my mind very often is making sure I give all that I have to those who appreciate it. I have both stories and objects to give to anyone and everyone, and occasionally specific someones (though I have no younger family, and only my dad left, and he's not going to be around much longer either as he's 80 with a very bad heart). So, yes, if you're around someone who's on their way out, even if it's artificially induced (if it's done with compassion and respect for themselves), you can help them immensely by finding value in whatever they have to share.

Beautiful story with some of the best acting I've ever seen or heard. As wonderful as Sally Hawkins is in this performance, I think the moments when she says nothing, especially when not being seen by her love interest, is astounding. Jim Broadbent is so believable, so captivating, so true as he goes from emotional to gentle surrender. Edward Hogg's nuanced playoff from Sally's presence is amazing. And when you see each actor at their best, that's called great directing. Thank you, for sharing this perfect film.

I’ve lost so many people , family , friends , associates and co-workers to this ugly , sad issue . I’m always amazed at why when I get the call . An old high school friend once said , “ it’s a long term solution to a short term problem “. He is correct . I do understand the loneliness and frustration that life can give you , I’ve certainly had more than my fair share of both and while I have given thought to the topic , I would/could never do something like that because of the damage it does to those that you love ! 💕. There are resources available to anyone in times of distress but you do have to reach out and ask for the help . I wish everyone well , take care and may God bless each and every one of you !

We just buried one of my cousins this morning. He was "the baby" of the family. 15 years age difference between him and me. He died suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack while only in his 40s. Was the son of my mother's sister. They are both gone too. I often joked my aunt must have thought herself 'safe' by the time she got pregnant with him. "Surprise. You're not too old auntie." Anyhow, had I known the subject of this video I might have skipped it. So glad I did not skip it. That ending to this video was touching. We experience the pain. But life goes on. Let those you love know you love them. One day it will all be over for them and then us too. Later will be too late. Do it now.

I watched this twice. The audio volume is superbly done. The music enhances the project not dominates it. Does not drown out the actors as with many projects. BTW, the app on my phone says the song is "Take This Dance" by Misty River. Very moving and perfect choice for this video. Everything about the video is outstanding--except the reality of the subject. I could not keep watching Sally Hawkins' face towards the end. The moment felt real. Outstanding performer. To me this is a reminder of the shortness of life and the need to love and be loved while we have life. Tear jerker.
