- You've never seen an amp like this before! These new Blackstar St James amps don't just look unbelievable, they're one of the most innovative amps you'll see on the market today, and the lightest 50 watt all valve amplifiers you'll ever pick up!
Dagan checks out the BRAND NEW Blackstar St James amps down at Blackstar HQ with Blackstar Product Specialist, Steve Marks! There's a 6L6 loaded St James, and an EL34 St James, in either head or combo form! The cabs are fitted with incredibly light, custom made Celestion speakers too, you'll be blown away by low light these amps are but the power and tone they deliver!
Each amp features both a clean & dirty channel but tonally they vary quite differently! The 6L6 equipped amp delivers that USA crunch to super saturated lead lines. The EL34 is more old school British sounding, a perfect pedal platform amplifier or if you want to rock all the classic riffs from back in the day!
Steve & Dagan go through all the unique features & tones in these amp, such as the difference between the EQ's on both and that they have different 'unique to the tone' foot switchable boost circuits in them too! We also chat to the designer of these amazing amps, Paul Stevens!

I have a HT5 for my room and love it! Great sound! Nice features! Love this brand!
I’m absolutely in LOVE with these new St James amps! 🔥🔥
Thank you for the in-depth presentation. I sure would like to try these in person.
Amazing! Blackstars are my fav amps, they are always amazing, and this one is no execption!
Informative and entertaining as always.
these blew me away last knight at the blackstar event
Really appreciate the gut shot early on. Thank you!
Awesome demo guys
Newcastle United fans's favorite Amp
Excellent presentation.
Love my Blackstar's!! HT STAGE 60 mki, TVP 60,Fly 3, & a HT 1. Nothing compares to the sound of Blackstar!!🤘🤘🤘
Well this is exciting 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸. Sounds fantastic!
New logotype too. I kinda like it.
I’m amazed with the low noise as in my mind the switching power supplies tend to introduce noise but not in these amps. Good job!
Just wait until the rectifier caps burn out or the PSU dies completely! I bet the proprietary unit replacement will cost a pretty penny, too. A switching PSU in a tube head-ingenious lol. But hey, welcome to 2022-it's all about the awesome power of marketing!
Saw these onstage locally at an Echo and the Bunnymen show, the fawn cabinets, very eye-catching. Hard to tell what they sounded like through the hundred-speaker house PA system, but no negatives that I could hear.
Awesome, where did you see Echo and the Bunnymen?
Will was the first to take St. James on tour.
Thorn finish looks sick
I thought it looked awesome.
Definitely want the el34 version
Might have to grab one too!
@@shredaintdead9323 which would you like best the 6l6 version or the el34
@@jessetate9701 6l6 but both are killer!
love blackstar amps!
That intro 🤌🏻
Very interesting one or two questions that are probably in the R & D section concerning yer ol` Henrys but there room for fun in lab and on stage.
Oh shit I didn't know he was a giant!!!
Woah Dan Auerbach can shred!
I really want it
Thinking about switching from my beloved Engl Screamer to the St. James (for various reasons). Anybody have any comparison between the two, would it be a downgrade tonewise to go from the Engl to the Blackstar?
100-200watt version and i'm buying it instantly. Unfortunatly i'm in a position where my speaker set-up needs to be pushed allot harder than 50watt can offer. Otherwise it would allready be on its way. Sounds fantastic and i desperatly need lightweight gear.
You don’t want to buy another cab for lower watt amp heads?
Really interesting. Will definitely try these. But first I call bullshit on the switchable power supply and sag mode marketing.
They say full valve but like other Blackstar high gain amps they only have 2 pre-amp tubes.
60% solid state, 40% tube amp. Definitely a hybrid amp.
@@christopherrusso9523 the Peavey MX series and Music Man amps were also hybrid
One big problem with modern tube amps is that they won‘t be anywhere near as serviceable as old amps. You can repair just about everything in an old 50‘s Fender…
send it back to the manufacturer?
@@EGGJAZZ in 30 years?
They're meant to be expendable. It keeps these companies in business. If you could have your amp perpetually repaired, these companies would sell less product.
Yeah and old light bulbs last forever ‘cause they have perfect vacuum
It's very hard to find any repairshops in Germany at all these days to be honest.
Love the sounds. I may need to trade in my old ht club 50 head for one of these! 😁
Can i replace the push bottons in my ht club with mini switches like in this amps?
Do these amps have digital reverb?
interesting the vox voice going thru the 34s ,these amps just work definition and heft, making records they will do the bizz im sure needs the price 799 though they sound quite airy like the 6v6 fender to me, the tech is evolved for sure but the price is wrong, a customers opinion i guess, but not at this price
"Blackstar Has Changed The Game Once Again" (FIFY)
I have a blackstar ht40 Mk1. It's a fantastic sounding amp for sure. Problem is, it recently went down and no techs will even crack it open to look at it. they sound good, but they aren't super repairable. I hope these are not the same.
It's because they're made so cheap that no tech wants to touch them not even the warranty guys. I sold my Blackstar and haven't looked back.
They will be the same.
Trash amp,
Can this amp actually be servicef and be a long term option as opposed to an out of warranty Ht series amp? In warranty blackstars are great they will just swap out the entire pcb but outside of warranty its not something a tech can fix on a pitch especially if you ARE playing live and on the road and need your amp fixed asap
@GearSlayer its not so much them fixing it, im talking real world you’re out playing live and away from home, the amp has an issue can a tech fix it with parts on hand. I had this happen with a blackstar studio 10 and the tech laughed and said no way and broke down why they are not feasable for rugged gigging work compared to even ac15s that are MIC or cheap fender blues JRs. I ended up buying a blues jr to finish the rest of the coastal tour.
@GearSlayer thanks for the response and its something i fear, I simply can't gamble with gear like that and it's the same reason I won't buy one of those Fender Tonemasters. The light weight nature of these things and all the routing are great but what's the point if you can't depend on them to actually take on the road?
@@xjimmemakesmusicx that's the main reason I prefer good quality sounding pedals and a speaker simulator like a Palmer PDI or a ADA GCS-6. They sound great, easy to carry lightweight, and you can plug direct or skip the speaker sim and use a backline amp if they can provide you one with a good clean channel. Just my two cents. - Cheers !
I had to give up on my Blackstar HT40 out of warranty. Worse yet Blackstar wouldn't provide any schematics to my tech. Good product if you can keep them operating.
di not play the EL34 clean what duz that say
When is el84 coming?
Has it caught on fire yet like previously bad designed amps from them ? Serious Q bro.
The tech said the line/compensated out is at the speaker output, but when they demo the presenter said the amp is in standby. Unless the standby is working differently than usual in tube amps, this is a bit of a contradiction, no?
😍
Want Light? How about a Reverend Hell Hound or King Snake.
Dagan how tall are you bro?
8 feet
Is he a normal height chap or is Dagen really tall?
Dagens actually deceptively enormous, it always surprises me
I thought you said it was the Sid James amp 😂
Whah whah whah whah !
Guess I'm selling my EL104 6L6 100w head.
Can't you See? Lord Can't You See? What that Woman, she been doin to me .
These don't sound very good to me. Sure it might be the recording. But no way I'd pay £999 for a combo or £1099 for a head, plus a cab at £499 for these amp tones.
Lol
Good amps while they work. But NOT serviceable. Think twice before shelling hard cash on tube amps that cannot be repaired..
When you have to start buying amps based on weight, it's time to retire. J.S.
BRO... 2 curls and 1.5 side presses... C'mon... still too heavy for ya...? @ 3:00 . . . ? 🤣😂🤣
They look like something in the background of a 50s Syfi film set. The HT series had such a better look . And the tone for that price is not congruent. Nasal-y and no bottom. Simply overhyped in my own crappy opinion.
Made in China or Vietnam or Indonesia ...?
Where are they manufactured? Anyone know, I'm thinking China as I can't get a straight answer and usually if it was made in U.K. they would be proud and that would be the first thing they told you. Anyone know? China, Korea, U.K.???
Korean made from what I can tell
The usual widdly diddly look at me heavy riffing. Sounds like any distorted amp or pedal for that matter
They sound fine but something I’m noticing is that actual tone is becoming less and less present in amp marketing with all the other features like “Cab-___” XLR and lightweight etc. taking up space
Another model that Blackstar with have forgotten about and out of the lineup in a year just like every other Blackstar amp, not to mention still made in China. Blackstar doesn't get it.
Game changing? I played both the EL34 and the 6I6 ... OK! My Egnater Rebell 30 MK1 can blend the tubes , has a finer, fatter distortion , better cleans .....the weight is 23lbs.... if you can not carry this... go home and die! ....sometimes the older stuff is better than the new stuff... and for recording you can buy blue box from blueguitar!
OKAY . . . SO... no ofence obviously... BUT WHY...? do European's pronounce with... with a WIFF...
but still pronounce THE... not. like, a FUH... no Fhut I Feen...? 🤣 GO BLACKSTAR...! 🤣
Mine burnt out after 1yr. Not able to get it fixed. Now it is garbage. No help from blackstar.
Way to much money
Let him talk.. jesus just stay quiet for 10 seconds, "um hmm"
As stated in this video everyone is in search of lightweight products and that’s exactly why I refuse to date fat chicks 😂😂🤣🤪
Can’t stand tube amps , they’re way too heavy , music should be fun , not suffering of my body and soul
Transformers? We don't need no stinkin' transformers. And, the valves have jussst enough current going to them to make them glow nice and pretty. So, no problems with international voltages...
All jokes aside, if I want a Fender, I'll buy a Fender. If I want a Vox, I'll buy a Vox. Love ya Dagan but, both literally and figuratively, I'm not buying it.
