    Your video helped me so much! I don’t have a husky but I have a pit bull named Sasha and she loves to pull while we walk. Btw I’m a 100lb 13 year old with a 50 lb pit bull. Sasha is extremely sweet but she loves to chase squirrels and go and try to meet other dogs and I used to have to drag her by squirrels and dogs and I’d get dirty looks and I’d get yelled at by adults telling my to get my dog before she kills a dog (Sasha would never kill anything) so I realized I had to teach her how to stop lunging and pulling at things so I used a lot of other methods that didn’t work but then I used your method and I saw results on the first walk instead of me telling sasha to come I stop and stand still slightly tug on the leash and when she comes to me I make her spin and I treat her and then she can walk again. If she’s distracted I’ll go and make her sit and wait till she focuses again! Thank you so much for this video also I have to make sure Sasha is properly trained because I really want to help remove the stigma around pit bulls and it’s hard to do since the pit bull that lives directly across my street is the most vicious dog I’ve ever seen the dog has attacked my two little dogs and has killed a chihuahua it bit a lady and it sent another dog to the hospital the dog hasn’t been sent away because everyone only thought it happened to them so they tried to give the dog another chance. The dog across the street and my dog look really similar to Sasha except Sasha is a girl and the dog across the street is a boy so sometimes Sasha is mistaken for the boy dog and that sucks. But they see her behaving they immediately realized Sasha isn’t the boy dog and they pet her and they tell me that they feel a lot better about pit bull since they met Sasha! (sorry my comment was soo long) I hope you read this!

    You just gave me the hope I needed, thank you 😊
    McKinley is a rescue that I’ve had for a year… she has given so much love and has learned so much, but when it comes to pulling and ignoring me in public places she doesn’t even know I exist!
    Today she broke my I-phone and I became so frustrated and felt hopeless 😞
    Because I am still a bit weak from cancer surgery I almost thought I’d have to give her away….. But….
    I get it, I truly get her after watching how you brought your husky backwards 🤣
    McKinley hates going backwards, both in the back seat of my suv and during a walk 😂
    When I say “ let’s go home “ or I cut a walk short she moves so slowly to go home! 🤣😂 huskies are full of energy and curiosity and they are
    “ SMART “!! 🤣
    Just now I had pieces of a pork chop and I used a few pieces to prove how much she understands my word commands!
    I now have an important tool that I didn’t recognize until your video….. ♥️👍🏼👍🏼🐾🥰
    Thank you so very much for this lesson. You’ve helped kinley and I out of this issue 🐾

    Sixty Formula, you have some great videos! I just watched the one about training your dog for off leash, and yes, a real commitment to your dog, by being patient and calm, training inside and outside, and just practicing over and over. Now, watching training your husky on leash. My Husky can not get off leash, until she learns to walk on leash! Try not to make this too long, but I've had her for two years now, and the first year was Heartworm disease, she was found in Texas, app. two years old, and came all the way to coastal Maine! So she was going very slow on leash for a year, it took that long to get her up to good health. Then she had a touch of Lyme disease, only took a couple of months with antibiotic to get her better, so now she has the strength of an Amazon!! And I see all the usual Husky traits, she can be totally oblivious outside ,just follows her nose everywhere, and I am being so yanked around! Doesn't hear one word I say. I did find out that she hates to go backwards on leash, and boy, that gets her attention! And I've always been into making sure she gets her 4 miles in, but we are just going to come back home, if she doesn't cooperate. And thank you for giving me the treat training, and coming back to you and sitting while on leash. I have spent so much time already training and being with her, I hope she appreciates it!! I have spent the better part of a year, just being dragged and yanked around our town, throughout the entire 4 mile walk, being forcefully dragged. There are times she will slow down, but not consistently. My body can not do that..... she knows when I'm annoyed at her, and she will come over and put her head under mine, saying she is sorry...she is a lovely dog and she is just following her DNA but we will never make it, if we follow her rules.

    I am a little confused....why do you let her wander everywhere...shouldn't the goal be to have her walk right beside you, walking on other ppl's lawns seems undisciplined to me. I want my huskies to walk calmly beside me...?

    • @SixtyFormula
      @SixtyFormula  6 років тому +18

      Sounds difficult but try and stand between yourself and the distraction. Position yourself in front of where your dog is looking, take out your treat, and get them to focus on you. Then reward. This takes time. Thanks for watching!

    I JUST got a husky, rescue. But she’s pretty amazing has learned so much already. She super sweet, calm (which is weird) I’ve owned two huskies before. One was able to be off leash the other couldn’t until she was older, both rescues. I take her to the dog park almost every day, walks every day, but I can’t get her to come to me! 😭😭😭 especially at the dog park, I have noticed if I start walking towards the gate she comes, but she does the normal dart and play. I hate that.

      3- other ,simply i did'nt move till she realize in that moment will go in one way (my🤣).
      4- and also the the strap at the top of the neck help me when i need to change the mind set (now a days just gentle touch and she react in a good way inmediatly).

      Just leave a trail of dog treats from the time you start the walk.
      Then when you turn back he just needs to follow the trail of treats.
      Unless, of course, if another dog or a squirrel happens to come along and gobble up the treats...then you're screwed. : )

    How do you teach them to understand the “release” word? I’ve been trying to use “break” like you do with your puppos. Loki looks at me like huh? 😂

    • @SixtyFormula
      @SixtyFormula  5 років тому +4

      you can start to use it instead of the word "ok" or "good" when they are finishing a simple trick. For example, when you have your dog stay and have their eyes focus on you, saying "good!" lets them know that the trick is over and the reward is coming. Substitute that word with "break" and it will become the same thing!

    • @lmelville6533
      @lmelville6533 4 роки тому +2

      Personally, we use "ok" and trained our husky by putting a treat somewhere and making her sit and then saying "wait" and making her wait for that release word before she's allowed to take the treat, eat food out of her dish when we feed her, or sit after walks and wait for us to remove the leash. Very very quickly, she realized that "ok" or "ok, go" meant that she was released and could do what she wanted. ;-)

    I love your vids! But I wish you would of mentioned that Siberian huskies were specifically bred to be independent and make their own descisions, and to pull, for dogsledding purposes! This is why huskies (or any sleddog type) can be harder to train than other dogs.

    "You're not a boy, dude" hahah Ohh I just found your channel and I like it so far. Before several days I got a female husky (her name is Rita) from a owner who gave her away for free, sadly she was not a baby, but already 1 y.o. (she made 1 year on 08 january) and I know how stubborn huskies can be.. and how they always wants things to happend "how they want them to be" haha and I really want to teach her the basics - like commands to sit/go and not pulling the leash always. I mean I know it's like in their nature to pull things, but.. I have friend with 2 husky boys and they usually don't pull at all or not that much, but they are much older now. I hope it's not too late to teach my dog things, because I know the best way is to start when they're still babies /or puppies/.

      Some people think this and yes, it works. However my huskies love pulling and leading on walks. It’s good to make sure your dog walks at a steady pace, and if you feel you would rather walk ahead of your huskies that’s okay.

    Watching this video because I paid over$300 in training at petco for my husky.. hes VERY smart, but he only listens indoors. As soon as we step outside or hint that were going outside, his lizard brain turns on and he turns Into this senseless hyper focused animal and wont listen lol.
    He doesn't care about treats either when hes out because he just wants to run. (Trust me I've even brought chicken in Tupperware for him and he will take it then drop it because he wants to do what he wants) Plus hes already a picky eater. We did alot of leash training with backtracking him and he just gets so annoyed and puts his ears back lol, he STILL Continues to pull hard and is all over the place and wrapping us up in the leash . Also recall doesnt work with him unless we are indoors. He will literally run away from my husband and I at the dog park. Also need a harness because if he has a collar he will pull back to break free and bolt away from us. Luckily we live on a military base so we dont lose him and people wont steal our dog like they would do in the civilian world

      I am having the same issue with my 5 month old husky. She's smart, knows lots of tricks and inside listens but the moment we take her outside she pulls very hard. we have been trying this technique for about a month now, also keeping her at our side and trying to walk her slowly without the pulling but this only lasts a few steps before we lose her attention and shes off pulling again. How long do you have to practice this method to make it stick? Our walks are becoming miserable and we want to exercise her but its getting discouraging.

    • @royalreese4429
      @royalreese4429 4 роки тому +1

      @@laurawales454 updated, husky is calming down with the extended leash, ya know the kind that retracts and extends? Husky need a little bit more freedom because they are crazy about exploring. Yea he doesn't walk next to me but he at least comes back now when we call him and he doesn't pull as much with that leash. I hear it's a little easier to co troll a dog with a collar rather than use the harness, even though harness is more comfortable.
