Totally agree, this is some WOW! Some of the most compelling instrumental rock I've ever heard. Like Tool meets Steve Vai with truly interesting and fresh melodic movement, groove and weight. At 4:00 it breaks into the heavy and kicks ass.
Something like this. something like this is what I want to play. Technical, heavy, atmospheric, where everything works together to serve their role in the music. Toska does such an amazing job to fuse together each beautiful thing about their instruments.
I've always loved this song the most. While it's disappointing that Toska is over, what's more important is that you guys are going new directions in your lives and parted ways from the band on amicable terms. You're all still mates, and have over a decade of great memories, shows, and music to cherish and be proud of. We fans will always love what you've given us to date and are thankful to have been along for the journey. Looking forward to seeing what each of you do in the future.
Toska/Dorje songs/riffs have ingrained in my head for years without fully realising 😂 superb track, the tone and effects used is everything you could ever want to hear.
@Paras finn I think people simply have very low standards. These are good musicians but it's umm... ok? For me it drones on and has very little heart, for someone else it's a masterpiece. I won't argue but I had to fast forward then again.. then just hit pause and read comments. Another person downloads it, listens everyday for a few months. Sounded like a fuck load of delay to me.
I really like rabea. He's a top guy. Incredible player. Very talented. And ditto for the rest of the band. But one of the best musical pieces ever written?????? Cmon. Some objectivity is necessary in life. It's not just about what you like.
I'd like to thank you guys for the music, in all seriousness, im in college right now and all i do is listen to ode to the author 90% of the time and it keeps me calm and takes the stress away, It almost makes me want to quit college and pursue my dreams in music but i just dont have the support i need. that being said its not all bad and your music is therapeutic to me!! so thank you so much Ben Dave and Bea!

In this day and age when it is so easy to just throw a playlist on shuffle and skip songs you don't like the first 20 seconds of, Ode to the Author remains one of very few albums I can happily listen to from front to back. Can't wait for the new material and I hope you guys get the success you deserve so you can come tour in Australia!!

Rabea, I can't even express how much this moves me. I'm 59 and I don't even know what the faq "heavy cinematic prog" is, but I know this absolutely blows my mind. I bought all the Toska albums on iTunes a few days back and pretty much embarrassed myself on the train this morning on the way to a client visit. EPIC. Absolutely effing EPIC.
they have started writing but the songs are so complex it takes ages and add in Bea starting to experiment with baritone guitars it is a hell of a task to make an album. Albums take long enough even when they are pretty simple in terms of parts and melodies but this I imagine is gargantuan.
Luke Saunders we will definitely be releasing more material! Time has been our enemy this time round, and Stephen is right in that I am writing new songs with baritone as well, so Dave is working out using 5-strings and generally we are just fitting writing in where possible as the moment. It's all busy times right now, but we have just finished a new song and I plan to get writing the rest over the next few months, with a plan to hit the studio sometime mid/late summer
I'm just in awe of you fellas. You three are so in time, so tight it's kinda spooky. Nobody gets lost, lags, or stumbles and then has to catch up. None of you three ever have to worry about the other two not carrying their part of the load/song. You know that they are gonna be in time, tight as hell, and it be flawless. Alright guys I need to some help pinning down what I love so much about Rabea's tone here. I can hear it and explain it but not fully articulate what I'm looking for. His tone is like the opposite of all the highly compressed hi gain modern tones. I go for something similar with my SSS Strat. Very stringy and raw, but punchy. Considering he's using a humbucker it must be a combo of a very natural clear pickup + an amazing mid gain tone through the amp because it's rare to hear humbuckers with that kind of feel. Anyone care to guide me towards what gives him that special sound?
Josh B drop c tuning, and his victory kraken amp could possibly be where most of his mid range tone comes from. However, I know he has a plethora of pedals that also could be factored into his tone. He usually rolls off and on his volume knob to give that "slightly driven" clean sound. This is all speculation though...
That break down still gets me. Ever since I heard a room mic recording of a rehearsal on a video months before release. It's just absolutely amazing and gives me an Ear-ection every time.
