Last February it was dark 16 hours a day, and we got 4 days out of the month where the temperature rose above -30. We were still expected to go to work even if the heat in the car didn't work because it was too fucking cold causing you to pull over and scrape the inside of your windscreen. In my two years in Dublin, I didn't once complain about the weather. I'd tell people that if it didn't feel like someone was shoving a hot poker into your sinuses causing them to feel like they were burning which in addition to the wind made your eyes water which in turn would make your eyelashes freeze together, it wasn't that cold. Every winter, the collective population of 6 million people in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba wonder why the hell they live here. I've decided this year not to. I'm going to the UK... There's no way to explain to anyone what -54 feels like.

"Colder than Alaska". I'm British, .over to Canada 17 years ago. Every winter is -30c. Worst so far was -45c with wind chill. I got the bus and went to work like usual haha
in England they see like a centimetre of snow and are like "nope!" meanwhile in Canada it gets down to -40 for a week and Newfoundland gets so much snow it buries cars.
I think the reason British people complain about snow or low temperatures is because we don't have sufficient resources or money to deal with it. Most of our public transport goes to shit and can't run, and the last time it snowed I got off a bus only to see it go up a hill for the next stop and slip back down and crash after getting to the top. It's pure chaos and quite dangerous, even when driving to work (cars/roads usually aren't built/modified for dealing with it either, quite a few crashes, many near collisions even when driving slowly). Our snow is this nasty slushie/sludgie shit that isn't easy to grip as well, it's horrible to navigate. In other words, the government believes that winter or snow related chaos damages is better than hiring adequate machinery for the roads because our weather is infrequent. (no one asked but it's still interesting to know)

BUT the important thing to consider here is that "where I live" is in SOUTH TEXAS. I live just as far away from the equator as Kuwait City! Britain is in the northern reaches of Western Europe, with London further up north than even New York City. Y'all are supposed to be equipped for the cold!
