31:17 The muggle Nicolas Flamel was born in 1330. In 1991 he would have been 661 years old. So it stands to reason that the adjustment to his age must be for the "missing out on 666" reason.
I think the main reason Voldemort is afraid of Dumbledore, aside from the fact that Dumbledore is a powerful wizard whose skills match or even exceed Voldemort's, is that that Dumbledore KNOWS Voldemort. And not just Voldemort, Dumbledore knows him as TOM RIDDLE. Dumbledore, out of everyone living, knows the most about him, where he came from, his childhood misdeeds, how he began to gather followers, the desire he once had to teach. And he knows that Dumbledore suspected more or even know more, like how he was the heir of Slytherin, etc. "Dumbledore never seemed to like me as much as the other teachers." Voldemort knows that Dumbledore alone suspected him and saw past his charming facade the whole time. Of course he would fear Dumbledore. Not only does Dumbledore have the power to defeat him, directly or indirectly ("He reached out beyond the grave through the boy, the boy"), but Dumbledore is the only person who he was never able to fool.
Excellent point. Dumbledore also knew Riddle could talk to snakes, meaning he suspected Riddle the MOST for being the Heir of Slytherin. Also, Dumbledore was the first person he had met who had frightened him, and whom he couldn't command/convince. Another thing to consider is that Voldemort knows that Dumbledore is intelligent and wise, and is therefore afraid of the truth, that Dumbledore might be right that Love is in fact stronger than Dark magic
1:26:46 it is a fear on Harry's part because he doesn't want to go back to the dursleys. It isn't an actual threat of expulsion from the school. The only time the school has ever mentioned expelling them was when Snape caught them in Chamber of Secrets after they crashed into the Whomping willow. I don't think Hogwarts expels students except under extreme circumstances such as when Hagrid was accused of murdering Myrtle
I think the Slug Club thing was that Slughorn turned down Lupin. As a teacher, he would have known about his lycanthropy. And with the social prejudice, he knew Remus would not be “enough of a high flyer” (why Molly thinks Auther was never invited via HBP). Then James and Sirius who totally accept their Moony for who he is, did not go out of solidarity.
I can’t express my gratitude for this endeavor. This is how my best friend and I would nit pick at the series for years before he died four years ago. Keeping the fandom alive and improving its legacy despite JK’s best efforts.
1:34:32 this whole thing, I feel like ron probably just has random dragon factoids ready at the go because of Charlie's love for them and him probably spewing facts or information about them to the family
That was my thinking as well. Charlie probably repeated certain dragon facts enough times over the years that some of them were bound to stick in Ron's memory.
To answer you're question about what a baron is. In the English nobility around the time of the founders, the most elite levels of the aristocracy, but still below the king were Dukes and Earls. An Earl was a noble who held large estates in the King's name and provided knights and soldiers for the king in times of war. Dukes were almost always members of the royal family who weren't the king or his heir, often younger sons and illegitimate sons of the king or maybe his father, who have been granted large estates. The Barons or the Great Barons were a subclass of the wealthiest and most powerful of these major lords who owned and entire county or more. These lords were so powerful they could at times even rival the King's own power including in the Baron's wars, a series of civil conflicts that nearly overthrew the Plantaginet dynasty in the reigns of King John and his son Henry III.
Flamel being a noted Opera lover is an in joke guys… it’s because the legend of his existence and loooong life is notable because he was identified as alive many years later by the public because he kept attending fancy operas. Even though he had faked his actual death long before.
Ron knowing a lot about dragons always made sense to me, even though he wants to be out of his brothers' shadows, he still admires them (except maybe Percy after book 5). Even in the chapter with the mirror, we see that his determinants of success are his brothers' achievements. So it makes total sense he would listen and remember things Charlie had said about dragons as that knowledge wouldn't seem boring or unimportant to him, dragons would seem interesting to him because they are interesting to his older brother whom he admires.
Hey SuperCarlinBrothers, I think this might give your Harry Potter fan brains a good workout: Why Dumbledore knows moody is fake (focus on 4th point): 1. The memory in the pensieve that Harry stumbles upon means that Dumbledore was onto Barty Crouch Jr, he just wasn’t able to figure out how or if he is alive. 2. He knows that someone is stealing from snape and making polyjuice potion. 3. As the amount of stuff stolen was large, and when crouch sr dies, it implies that the perpetrator is in disguise and living in hogwarts and needs to drink the potion constantly. It is also suggested by the fact that Harry’s name was thrown by the goblet: to trick Dumbledore’s protective enchantments, it would ve taken time and required the perpetrator to be inside hogwarts. 4. All this should ve been a speculation with just one link missing. This link was provided by Harry when he tells Dumbledore about his dream. Dumbledore also INTENDED Harry to see the Barty Crouch court memory. Dumbledore knows the connection between Harry and Voldemort and knows the significance of this dream where BARTY CROUCH JR IS STILL ALIVE. And now the disappearance/killing of Barty Crouch Sr further adds to it, the ceiling incident in the beginning and everything would have made sense to Dumbledore. There might be another possibility: Dumbledore knows that Voldemort must be finished off by Harry and therefore must be brought back to life and the secret of Horcruxes be identified to kill off voldemort for good. He might also have guessed that Voldemort will use Harry’s blood in his ignorance, meaning Harry is safe. What he actually might have missed was that the cup was a Portkey or that Harry and Cedric might go together; as he would never risk a student’s (Cedric’s) life.
1:20:02 That actually is a level in the video game adaptation of the first book. It is really fun to try and play through it also does explain why they don’t just use Wingardium Leviosa because casting spells at all completely nullifies the cloak and makes you fully visible.
Loved this analysis! But i will say, your commentary on "Snape spat bitterly on the ground" actually doesn't strike me as unnecessary/petty, but I don't know if that's just my experiences as a football (soccer) fan. Also, as you go on to say, this win knocks slytherin off the top of the table for the first time in 7 years - I'm not surprised at Snape's reaction in all honesty
"It's so weird, Snape is acting like he's a double agent, it's almost like he's a double agent, maybe it's cause hes a double agent, I don't know it's sooo weird"
Absolutely loving how much detail you go into with these. I have a question on Filtch being a poltergeist. It’s fun to think he’s more than a squib, but it states that he leaves during the battle, but comes back later. In my head if he’s a poltergeist can he actually leave? I’m assuming most ghosts in the castle are kinda bound, but then it also seems like most just chose to reside there. I’m not sure anymore.
Being a leader and/or living forever sounds exhausting because you care about responsibility and what it means. Most importantly it is because you practice empathy. Dumbledore is a wonderful example. He does not want the ministry job. being headmaster is more than enough for him and he cares deeply for his students. Being a leader who cares is very difficult, but leading becomes orders of magnitude simpler if you are a leader who doesn’t care. So much less to care about so less pressure. lol sheesh I’m even bummed by this point. Great work as usual guys. Love each and every deep dive.
With the whole idea of things being "unfair" to the reader, specifically when snape spit on the ground, but were also in the mind of an 11 year old. When they think someone is against them, they may see any of their actions as personal or pointed. To me it feels more like an example of when Harry is an unreliable narrator, because he doesn't have all the information and the brain development, Snape could have literally just been spitting extra saliva out of his mouth. But 🤷♀️
1:46:30 it seems like hagrid falls into the "actually does know a lot about creatures so assumes he knows everything about creatures" category. It perfectly explains his wealth of knowledge and it's obvious gaps and is a surprisingly common phenomenon
hey brother...... love your read through, you both have gotten me back into harry potter and, for the first time in over 20 years, because of this read through, I decided to buy the books and do something i havent done in a very very long time (like i said over 20 years!) read them!! thank you so much for getting me back in to something ive been missing out on for so many years as a potter fan, the bits they left out the films. please tell me your planning to do the chamber of secrets??
Two comments on dragon blood... firstly, it doesn't make any sense that Slughorn uses the blood as fake human blood as it is actually GREEN. 😅 (Book 5: "Hagrid picked up the steak and slapped it over the left side of his face. Greenish blood trickled down into his beard...".) Secondly, I always found its use as oven cleaner completely ridiculous, but my head-canon is that it wards off fire dwelling salamanders who have really corrosive droppings and thus ruin fireplaces. The salamanders would be repelled by the smell of large and dangerous lizards. Thus, Dumbledore doesn't have to randomly clean his sneakoscope, desk and bookshelf until he discovered it, but can use it purposefully by deduction. 😊 Completely made up by myself, of course, but what do you think?
I am gonna keep saying this because it's an annoying detail that I keep focusing on. This book foreshadows a lot but in a way that you don't really notice or like certain details about certain characters are so inconsequential in the moment or are like things you don't really pay too much mind too because you either need to know specific background information or you need to read on to understand the reference. Quirrell should have had a different name. His name I think should have related to or been in reference to Janus. Especially because a lot of character names are pulled from mythology and Latin language. An average 10 or 11 year old kid is not likely to know loads about Roman mythology and stuff like that so the name is not gonna mean too much to them in the moment but adult readers who maybe do know more will understand the reference because Janus was the god with two faces and Quirrell is the man with two faces and like that's literally the name of the chapter where we find this out so it just would have been a nice detail. And it may have clued people in sooner to Quirrell being the villain of the story over Snape. I just think it would have been a good little detail to notice if his name related to Janus.
Hello to you guys and Happy New Years from Finland. I hope you have a bit warmer than we, here it is about -27°C. But I have a thought that I have been thinking on for some time now. And it's about the spell Evanesco. In the seventh book when Prof. McGonagall opened the Rawenclaw tower for Amycus. The door asked "Where do vanished objects go?" Prof. McGonagall answerd "Into non-being wich is to say everything" Do all wiches and wizards have a own personal "non-being" where they can vanish their objects or is it like the Room of Requirement so that everything that gets vanished, vanishes to the same "non-being" ? And if so, what is in the way of theft from there? Do ministry of magic have some rules or regulations of vanishing and conjuring objects? For example. In the fifth book when Harry come's to the HQ of Order of The Phoenix and comes Into the kitchen after the meeting. And Bill hastily vanishes the plans away. If those plans ended up Into Bills own "non-being" no harm done. But if they end up In a space where everyone can conjur them. Why cant just Lucuis Malfoy being conjurg stuff for fun In his mansion and hoping something good come's along. This is my question. I hope you understood it. And once again. Happy New Year and keep up the great work. Love your videos.
There are some charms that say you have to spit to deactivate them, I would also say that he probably was mad that he knew that Slitheran might loose the house cup now.
I feel like you guys need to watch old claymation movies. Cuz everyone even a few years older than you know all kinds of things like pegasus and the philosopher's stone. That stuff was common in those movies. Plus, fma. Full metal alchemist...
3:19:19 you don't have to have mad funny Antics to cause chaos though. If I remember correctly, Umbridge is able to give peeves some orders until well into her Reign at Hogwarts
Kind of disappointed that you didnt go on to the last three chapters as you mentioned. I will give you a break because of the Holidays. I did relisten to this however. Cant wait for the next chapters.
Since the maurarders have literally hundreds of detentions then I’m curious to have much of their time at school like percentage is just spent in detention because they’d have at least once a week for like at least 4 years total since hundreds is like plural so at least 200
2:30:47 wild guess, but maybe Quirrel was capable of speaking Parslemouth (like how Harry can because of a part of Voldemort's soul) and so they thought they couldn't be overheard
wait, hold up, i always assumed the uses for dragons blood would be used for cool things like really powerful potions and not something like.... removing a veruca and cleaning an oven. like, in my head when dumbledore is accused of taking credit for the 12 uses it's this really big thing because i always assumed dragons blood would be used for 12 really important things, so it was a big deal if he wasn't really the person who made these discoveries. now i'm just like.... i mean it's not good if he took credit for someone else's work, but.... idk i actually kind of feel disappointed?
When you guys talk about why Snape sounds so evil in this book, but particularly in his encounters with Quirrell, you have to remember that he needs Voldemort to think that he is still bad. If you guys are right and Dumbledore knows Quirrell is working with Voldemort(which I think is true based off of what Harry says at the end of the book about Dumbledore giving him the chance to face Voldemort), then Snape has to be careful not to appear too sympathetic to Dumbledore and still look like he wants to help Voldemort too. I think with this in mind, it makes a lot of sense why Snape would appear more evil, because Voldemort is at the school watching him the entire time and still believes that Snape is still on his side. With that said, I know a lot about Harry Potter but I think you guys do a great job and really know what you're talking about!
I know you guys will appreciate this. I got a new shirt this Christmas from my sister in law and look at what the ravenclaw mascot is a raven not an eagle. 😂
49:05 i think its maybe just that Snape doesnt approach of Dumbledores plan .-. Or he can read minds and shes that harry sees his family and is discussed
Lupin would never be invited to the slug club tho. He was not a remarkable student. Sirius was definitly invited but probably refused to go. Slug club is not really his style
At that time Voldemort thought Snape had switched sides at that time. This is said in deathly hallow when Bellatrix ask Snape why the dark lord trusts Snape.
Wooo I’ve been calling for multiple chapters for weeks now let’s goo. Original series would take wayyy too long haha. Hopefully it’s not a one off thing
remember a couple of episodes ago, when yall were taking about making a qwidditch through the ages film, and what if the underdog classic sports story is about ginny when she is just starting with the holly head harpies?
Unfortunately, I don’t think Ginny could successfully pull off the underdog story because she’s one of the Ministry six / Harry Potter’s wife/girlfriend. Neat idea though!
Diary Voldy explains that Dumbledore always saw right through him. I believe that is part of why he fears him. Dumbledore always had mysterious powers in his eyes.
I think I've heard a bit of obscure lore that two werewolves fell in love and had children. The children ended up being more wolfish but with human minds. Dumbledore offered them a place to stay in the Forbidden Forest.
I think one of the uses of dragon blood must be for making a body using the Philosopher's Stone. If it is similar to human blood, that could make sense. It might also explain why Quirrell was encouraging Hagrid to raise a dragon - because Voldemort would need the blood to get a body once he got the stone.
Making a body is also part of alchemy, so it could explain why Dumbledore was working with Flamel and making a new contribution to alchemy so long after the creation of the stone.
Rons brother is a Dragon fanatic, how is it strange that maybe he didn't know a lot of Dragon facts? you're brothers, tell me J doesn't know fish facts because he has a brother who's into fish?
Peeves went along with Fred and George. They didn’t tell him to stop his antics, they encouraged Peeves. Peeves is comprised of energy born out of annoyance and irritation. He only exists where he can produce annoyance and irritation in a victim. He is the peeved (angry) energy generated by others. Peeves was afraid of the Bloody Baron because the Bloody Baron was silent - he did not generate annoyance or irritation so Peeves could not exist around the Bloody Baron. Peeves obeyed Professor McGonagall and Professor Dumbledore because they did not respond with annoyance or irritation. They responded with calm authority. Peeves can only exist where there is annoyance or irritation - anger!
I’m pretty sure they have already talked about this in an old video but they just took anything like broomsticks, magic carts, even magic carpets (which weren’t outlawed yet)
I think i like Cat Squad xD It semi reminds me of Nyan Cat and is pretty simple. i guess hearing it a billion times in a week, you would want to set it ablaze.
Snape and the Slytherin's were finding subtle ways to cheat to never even lose the lead in six years. Dumbledore has other things on his mind with all those other titles and what not so he isn't watching it that closely. I will die on this hill.
Maybe Dumbledore was training them for resistance fighting. They got caught on a black out mission and they had to do detention without blowing Hagrid's cover.
I always hated when people say voldemort is afraid of Dumbledore. I think he know hes a threat. It just like saying merope choose to die. Her intire world she thought she would have is gone. People in that state cant always see whats best for them to do.
Dark explanation for both why and how it Harry and Hermione having to take the dragon and not knowing how they got it to the top of the tower - Hagrid used the unforgivable curse on them to make them do his bidding whilst remaining clueless on their actions
I don't think Dumbledore knew Quirrel had Voldemort on his head. If anything, he might've thought of Quirrel as an ordinary Dark Wizard, which is an interesting concept because how would Dumbledore (as headmaster) deal with a Dark Wizard who wasn't related to the Death Eaters or Voldemort?
My headcannon is that James, Sirius, and Lupin found Slughorn insufferable, shallow, and fake. So they were invited, but never went. While Lily found him funny and endearing.
@@iRazenrak James and Sirius was the clever students. So they were the brains of the group. Lupin was not dumb by any means, but not brilliant. So yeah average.
Interesting that Bane thinks harry is supposed to die and that the location is the forbidden forrest. Maybe he genuinely knew this had to happen and was just wrong on the part of when this had to happen. Since later on in the story harry has to get killed by Voldemort in the forbidden forrest.
Regarding the werewolf issue, my explanation is that there is an animal that is a werewolf, just a big magical wolf. If you get bit by a werewolf (animal), you are afflicted by the werewolf curse and become a werewolf (person).
Dear @SuperCarlinBrothers, Ben and J? I have to say whenever you talk about what become of Voldemort after he dies, and remembering the piece of Voldemort's soul lying under a bench, convulsing and groaning...I want you to make a video on my feelings here, because I feel so sad for Voldemort. Once a handsome and charming boy destined to be reduced to never dying and eternal torture in Limbo...I feel so much pity, so I want a video on: How Do You Save Voldemort from Limbo and Restore his Soul and Reform Him...Because what has happened to Voldemort is WORSE then Death and seems even WORSE than the Dementor's Kiss. So...My question for you J is... "How Can We Save Voldemort from Limbo and Restore and Reform the Boy Formerly Known as Tom Riddle?" From, Lucky Spades

he wouldn't have invited him anyway since he was not a stand out student. there was nothing special about him in Slughorns eyes.

Can you imagine like in class Quirrell’s hand lightly grazes Harry’s as he turns in an assignment and then just starts EXPLODING??
It's crazy to think that at the end of this podcast we are going to spend literally 2 months talking about the battle of hogwarts
Yea, in July of 2027 if they go without breaks :)
I'm so excited for talking about Regulus too!

Do all wiches and wizards have a own personal "non-being" where they can vanish their objects or is it like the Room of Requirement so that everything that gets vanished, vanishes to the same "non-being" ?
How do you guys not have a million subscribers. Yet. Y’all are awesome.
Ron helping Hagrid with the dragon could be because it reminds him of his brother.
Love your videos
Here’s a idea for a what if. What if Barty Crouch Senior was Ministry of Magic instead of Cornelius Fudge?
Kind of disappointed that you didnt go on to the last three chapters as you mentioned. I will give you a break because of the Holidays. I did relisten to this however. Cant wait for the next chapters.
Them only having 280 kids in the school shocks me because ONE GRADE in my school is about 500 kids
Happy new year guys 🥳🥳🥳
1:53:19 Remember in Chamber of Secrets Ron and Harry fly right up in the car.
Love your content guys! Suggestion: What if peter stayed loyal to the potters?
They kinda covered that in the "what if serius was the secret keeper " video.
Since the maurarders have literally hundreds of detentions then I’m curious to have much of their time at school like percentage is just spent in detention because they’d have at least once a week for like at least 4 years total since hundreds is like plural so at least 200
1:00:43 he could also be testing him kind of or maybe even knows harry is there and is just saying it for Harry’s knowledge
What if Neville stopped the trio from leaving the common room in philosopher’s stone
I know you guys will appreciate this. I got a new shirt this Christmas from my sister in law and look at what the ravenclaw mascot is a raven not an eagle. 😂
bro :( we can’t see the shirt
You can click "exclude from taste profile" on things that are for your kids, so it doesn't count it towards your wrapped 😊😊
49:05 i think its maybe just that Snape doesnt approach of Dumbledores plan .-. Or he can read minds and shes that harry sees his family and is discussed
2:48:46 rumors of werewolves might be a left over from the time Lupin was in school?
Lupin would never be invited to the slug club tho. He was not a remarkable student. Sirius was definitly invited but probably refused to go. Slug club is not really his style
44:01 my question was at this time didnt Voldemort think snape was still a death eater? Why wouldn’t he try to get help from snape?
At that time Voldemort thought Snape had switched sides at that time.
This is said in deathly hallow when Bellatrix ask Snape why the dark lord trusts Snape.
Wooo I’ve been calling for multiple chapters for weeks now let’s goo. Original series would take wayyy too long haha. Hopefully it’s not a one off thing
Dam nvm I thought this was the pod channel. Disappointed to say the least
remember a couple of episodes ago, when yall were taking about making a qwidditch through the ages film, and what if the underdog classic sports story is about ginny when she is just starting with the holly head harpies?
Unfortunately, I don’t think Ginny could successfully pull off the underdog story because she’s one of the Ministry six / Harry Potter’s wife/girlfriend. Neat idea though!
Diary Voldy explains that Dumbledore always saw right through him. I believe that is part of why he fears him. Dumbledore always had mysterious powers in his eyes.
weird going back to without the stache....lol. Don't go back, J. :)
My headcannon is the "heavens" told the centaurs that the Philosopher's Stone would soon be destroyed, thus revealing it was in the school.
HOW did students get to Hogwarts during the 800-ish year gap between when the school was built and trains were invented?
I’m pretty sure they have already talked about this in an old video but they just took anything like broomsticks, magic carts, even magic carpets (which weren’t outlawed yet)
I think i like Cat Squad xD It semi reminds me of Nyan Cat and is pretty simple. i guess hearing it a billion times in a week, you would want to set it ablaze.
Snape and the Slytherin's were finding subtle ways to cheat to never even lose the lead in six years. Dumbledore has other things on his mind with all those other titles and what not so he isn't watching it that closely. I will die on this hill.
how they never knew? sounds like a memory charm to me
You would think Snape had to be on the field for his magic to work if it was a certain protection charm.
I still think Dumbledore is using the time turner this entire time, there is no way he knew to have Snape be a double agent with Quill unless he did.
I'm not going to lie I know kind of want a full deep dive into what if Draco was in Gryffindor
My headcannon is that James, Sirius, and Lupin found Slughorn insufferable, shallow, and fake. So they were invited, but never went.
While Lily found him funny and endearing.
Why would he invite Lupin? He was a very average student. He wouldn't be on the radar.
@@hohohomelander was Lupin average? He's one of the Marauders, who were on par with the likes of Hermione.
@@iRazenrak James and Sirius was the clever students. So they were the brains of the group. Lupin was not dumb by any means, but not brilliant. So yeah average.
If house points are rewarded mostly on class work wouldn’t we expect ravenclaw to dominate over the years instead of slytherin ?
guys, i love this podcast, but oh man. y'all have now caused me to want to read the funny bloody baron-helena ravenclaw fanfic.
Shape pretending to help makes sense because Voldemort wouldn’t trust Snape when he came back.
how many dogs other then fluffy do we see?
Madam Pomphrey was a G ❤
Since you guys have already done "what if harry was in Slytherin" you try and see if you can put together a "what if Malfoy was in Gryffindor"
Not sure that this is possible without putting Malfoy out of character.
I learned what a stoat was from Redwall
I like to think ron helped out with norbert, becouse he in someway misses Charlie.
I doubt the teachers know what other teacher's defenses are for the Stone. For security's sake.
1:56:42
Interesting that Bane thinks harry is supposed to die and that the location is the forbidden forrest. Maybe he genuinely knew this had to happen and was just wrong on the part of when this had to happen. Since later on in the story harry has to get killed by Voldemort in the forbidden forrest.
What if peeves was the jester at the bloody barons court so peeves listen to him in life and in death
😂😂 some other name for a winged horse??? You mean pegasus???
Did they forget ro look at the chapter art from chapter 14?
You should make some Percy Jackson videos
why is it even a rule that they can't leave their dorm at night?
Regarding the werewolf issue, my explanation is that there is an animal that is a werewolf, just a big magical wolf. If you get bit by a werewolf (animal), you are afflicted by the werewolf curse and become a werewolf (person).
Any “friends” who don’t like Hagrid are no true friends. You need some better friends.
Your eyes 👀 are very green
"How Can We Save Voldemort from Limbo and Restore and Reform the Boy Formerly Known as Tom Riddle?"
