Proud to be part of this historic franchise as director/editor of The Pandora Directive - Overseer [aka The Poisoned Pawn] - Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy adventure -??? Many friendships made over the course of 24 years.
Thx Skeeter... it was a blast to do [challenging at times given the limits of technology back on PD and Overseer - and the fact Tesla was shooting before we had a finished script]. Hopefully I will be asked back to complete the FMV saga [there was very little for me to add to PP since it is mostly new game play and hopefully many of the deleted scenes added to flesh out the original Overseer story]
I saw Chris Jones at a pizza place in West Bountiful when I was in high school. I was so nervous to approach him and I didn’t end up getting his autograph. I will always regret it. These games will always be my favorite way to connect with my father and brother.
I'm so glad that Tex is living and well in 2017. I played all of the games with my papaw when I was a kid, and it was always one of our most treasured experiences. He passed away this year, but we were able to enjoy Tesla Effect together a couple of years ago, and reminisce about old times. Thank you guys for all of the entertainment you've brought to us. Stay Texy everybody.
I was raised with the Tex Murphy games in the 90's, and was ecstatic when the Tesla Effect came out as an adult!! So cool to see so many local Utah actors in the game (Davis County native here). I've always taken it as a point of pride that these games come from Utah. Thanks for all the years of fun!
I gladly encourage every Tex Murphy fan to go ahead and read Aaron Conners' novelizations of the games. His books are literally page turners and greatly expand the Tex Murphy universe and stories, both in size and quality.
Under a Killing Moon, Pandora Directive, and Overseer spanned my childhood into my teenage years. When I think of 90's PC gaming, they're the immediate thoughts. Not Doom, not Half-Life, not Wolfenstein.... nah man, these were the games I remember most.
Played this game with a friend when we were 10-years-old in South Africa and got into trouble for doing so but kept playing it anyway. So glad I found the games on Steam after all these years and they feel exactly the same.
Countdown is one of my favorites. Been playing it periodically since it came out. It would be nice to know the character cast for us old school fans. Game doesn't have full credits and nothing online.
Just started watching this and damn i love Chris Jones talk here, a voice from my childhood from playing under a killing moon! I also played beach head on c64 even earlier, never even realised it was made by these guys. Good times!
I feel so lucky to be one of few who have experienced these games as a child! Can't even start to describe what it meant to me back in the day! Absolutely amazing atmosphere, writing and acting.
Total respect for these guys @ Big Finish. They haven't forgotten their fans, backers and friends all these years. Happy to see all the Kickstarter backer names scroll at the end credits, mine included.
I played mean streets as a kid. As an adult I moved to SLC and just happened to replay it. I had no idea where they made the game. There are so many Utah jokes hidden in there I knew it had to be Salt Lake. I love it.
So happy to have played and experienced the Tex Murphy games throughout the years. My grandma and I loved playing them together and we recently finished Tesla Effect for the 2nd time together. It was because of Tex and his crazy adventures that I ended up majoring in game design in college and currently make videos and interactive games in the eLearning industry. Thanks to all of you for the memories and the inspiration. My grandma and I are looking forward to replaying Tesla Effect again until a new one comes out ;) We love you all
Tex Murphy is an amazing series of games and it was really amazing to see the Tesla Effect come out. I missed the kickstarter but if you made another game it would totally be supported and loved. You guys are all awesome for what you have done!
I was 15 when I first played Mean Streets on my neighbor's computer. It had just come out and they were super excited for it. Tex has been a part of my makeup ever since. Shame we won't be getting Poisoned Pawn, but looking forward to the Pandora Directive remaster!
Really enjoyed the documentary and can't wait for The Poisoned Pawn. Ive been playing Tex Murphy since i was 13 when UAKM was released and would love to see the series continue well into the future.
I have been along as a game player for this entire ride. I am so glad I was able to be a backer on Kickstarter. Thanks for keeping the peddle to the meddle LOL.
One of the best games ever. If not the best since it helped me during the rough personal times in 90's by sucking me into it's world...there are no words to describe gratitude to the creators!!!
Thank you for making revolutionary games that defined a generation. There is nothing that compares to the Tex Murphy series. I still remember the Overseer box with the blinking red LED. Totally made it stand out on the shelf. Under A Killing Moon is still the favourite.
Tex Murphy games are remarkable in a way that can't be really expressed. So much content, fun, thrills and above all incredible passion from the creators.
Loved Tex since I bought under a killing moon for my PC all those years ago. Now that I have the books, I have help but to hear Chris' voice while reading his dialouge. These will always be my goto game and books. Thank you for all the work you've put into this.
Tex Murphy has such a special place in my heart - my intro to video games when I was 6 or 7 years old. I'm sure Chris, Aaron, Adrian & the whole team know they've got something really special here but it doesn't hurt to share the sentiment. My autographed Aaron Conners Tex Murphy novels are one of my most prized possessions! Can't wait for Poisoned Pawn & the mythical game that is rumored to come next.
You know, I distinctly remember the name Tex Murphy/the box art in magazines/stores, but I never actually played any of the games as a kid. I played other adventure games like the King's Quest series, 7th Guest etc. - I'll have to pick them up on GoG sometime.
Always loved the Tex Murphy games. I've played Killing Moon, Pandora Directive, Tesla Effect and Overseer, they've all been a joy. Can't wait for Poisoned Pawn.
Totally cool and beautiful documentation! I hope you guys bring us another Tex Murphy Games, as long as you're passionate about it. And if someday the last game is out, we still have what you've created to play it all over again. Thanks for this inside look! :)
I'm late to the party but later than never, loved the documentary. :) Btw so you guys know, i'm a new fan to this franchise, never played the older games and it was the kickstarter buzz that called my attention and I'm glad it did because I loved the game and I wait for the new Tex Murphy adventure. :)
I loved playing UAKM and PD in the mid 90s. I didn't have a PC so I'd have to beg to play it at my friend's houses. Access Software will always be my favorite studio.
It's always brings me jpy to see when the production can have fun with creating what they love, and the passion they put in their products. Thank you for creating such amazing games and great memories.
This is very cool. Thank you for including the backers, it feels really cool and honored to have been apart of History as well. I look forward to the Poisoned Pawn. Keep up the good work :)
I would love for the game series to be remade into a movie series. The comedy and story in these games is so good I would love to sit down and watch it as a movie series. Of course the recasting will never replace or outdo the original cast, but none the less. The hardest thing would be transforming hours of game play into a 1.30 to 2 hour film. I'm sure many fans of the game series would disagree however it's just my opinion. Tex Murphy is such a great character, and the stories are so good, so many people who don't play computer games are missing out!
Instead of remaking all the older games, can we get another Tex Murphy please?!?! Also a movie with Zack Braf playing Tex, that would be awesome. This series will always be part of my childhood. This was my very first game for my Packard Bell, that was amazing. I even started to tinker with computers because of it. The “real sound” came out of the PC speaker. But that wasn’t loud enough or sometimes not really clear. So figured out how to bridge the pc speaker on the motherboard to the two input leads on my sound blaster card. Two wires started my career and passion for computers. Some how I missed Martian memorandum but later on in life got to play it. But I am an original owner of all the big box versions of the game, a demo cd of under a killing moon, and even overseer that won’t really work anymore on a modern computer unless you buy the gog version. This game will always be iconic. With the success of Cyberpunk, Tex Murphy needs to come back on that quality and bring this character, story and fun to the new generations.
Thank you guys for making this. So many memories growing up playing these Tex games! Looking forward to PP, the novels and maybe, just maybe one more big game down the road.
I see where you're going with that, but there is so much more to be enjoyed with TM as an interactive or print medium. Sure, it's obvious why TM would make a great film BUT the TM franchise is inspired by movies which preceded the games. UKAM/PD/Overseer succeeded because they were inspired by Blade Runner but were unique in the sense they could bring their own sense of interface to it. By making a TM movie that is based upon a game which is based upon a movie, you're going to end up with a facsimile of what made TM so endearing. The best analogy is this: the film, Tomb Raider, is to the titular game which was made possible through Indiana Jones as its inspiration. See what I mean? If you literally photocopy a photocopy of a photocopy, the result is a degradation in quality and authenticity.
Yeah it’s 2022… I played Mean Streets, and in time, I’ll play the others. Tex Murphy is one of a kind character. He’s not the BIG name video game characters, but those of us who played the series, knows how it felt to be a P.I. with his wits, and a pistol…
Fellas, if you ever thought to crowdfund updates or even just nicely emulated versions of the Beachhead games and Countdown, I would happily support. I loved those games and would love to play them again.
Great games but for those old Tandy computers I played them on as a 7 yr old they took too long to load so the odds of me ever finishing one of those were impossible.
Tesla effect and Thimbleweed Park, my 2 best adventure games from kickstarter, wish there were more than those 2 , but unfortunately the majority of indie developers are walking simulator hipsters. Only Ron and Tex can save us xD
Excellent video. Your 1991 game "Countdown" actually got a gushing, almost to the point of orgasmic, review from Computer Gaming World, the leading PC game magazine at the time. Quotes: "Countdown is *as close to perfect* as any game can be... Countdown is a joy to watch. It is also a joy to listen to... Playing Countdown is a shocking *sensual* experience... Compared to Countdown, *Sierra's various Quests are mere cartoons*; Countdown is a *feature film*... Those who think this reviewer is overstating the case and might even own stock in Access (since one isn't used to reading superlatives under this by-line) are invited to express their disagreement." The complete magazine (Jan 1991) is here: www.dropbox.com/s/rrwkxoq1xhj8oef/cgw_78.pdf?dl=0 . Sadly, this was the same reviewer who trashed UaKM a few years later in this same magazine.
UAKM was THE game I wanted for my 486 back when I was like 12 or 13 years old. I remember making a collage of cut outs from magazines and what not of just Tex Murphy stuff, that's how badly I wanted it. Never got it back in the day because my folks were skin-flints and I was too young to earn a living. Played it years later, in fact, played through the entire series and I love the series to this day. I wish there were a "next" tex murphy game in production now. Yes, the market is small, but FMV games have been re-ignited these past couple years and I'd certainly buy in to the next one. I'm curious if tesla effect turned a profit. I presume not, since there is no follow up. Such a shame.

AdrianWCarr Hey Adrian, ty for all your hard work on the tex games.
AdrianWCarr maybe there's more Tex after poisoned pawn where u can stretch ur talent over again :). Least I hope so.
I am sure there will be at least one more massive game, one that betters PD.
AdrianWCarr let's hope
I saw Chris Jones at a pizza place in West Bountiful when I was in high school. I was so nervous to approach him and I didn’t end up getting his autograph. I will always regret it. These games will always be my favorite way to connect with my father and brother.

Under a Killing Moon was the best from Tex. Somehow his neighborhood made me feel cozy, almost at home.
Countdown is one of my favorites. Been playing it periodically since it came out. It would be nice to know the character cast for us old school fans. Game doesn't have full credits and nothing online.

Damn proud to have been a part of the Tex Murphy legacy... (Proud Mutant League Member :))
I'm a sucker for great atmosphere in games. And the Tex Murphy series is definitely one of the best in that regard.
I'm late to the party but later than never, loved the documentary. :) Btw so you guys know, i'm a new fan to this franchise, never played the older games and it was the kickstarter buzz that called my attention and I'm glad it did because I loved the game and I wait for the new Tex Murphy adventure. :)

Woohoo! There‘s my name in the credits!
How much do you pledge to get your name on there? also where do I get the download?
Hell yeah, mine and my brothers is on there as well. Loved these guys and their games.
This is very cool. Thank you for including the backers, it feels really cool and honored to have been apart of History as well. I look forward to the Poisoned Pawn. Keep up the good work :)
Tesla Effect was one of the few Kickerstarters I backed and a game actually resulted in it. Good times.
Wow! Loved this behind the scenes look. Well done folks
I used to play these games when I was high school in the 90s. Love it.
Great stuff and happy to have been a backer on the Tesla effect game. Great series and I hope it will continue!
really nice documentary!
I am so happy to be part of the backer. :)
We loved playing Tex Murphy! Would love a new one too! Even named my Dog Murphy!
Absolutely wonderful documentary. I've been a fan of Tex forever and it was really great to hear the stories from the people who made the games.

You guys are great
Thank you guys for making this. So many memories growing up playing these Tex games! Looking forward to PP, the novels and maybe, just maybe one more big game down the road.
This was incredible! You guys are the best!
this should have so many more views.
So many memories of my childhood! I'm gonna go buy the tesla effect ASAP!!! so cool! Thanks for the dedication guys!
Great documentary, I love the Tex Murphy's serie. Thank You
Kudos to this team! Love the Tex Murphy games ❤️
You know, the world can be pretty shit some times. But it helps knowing that somewhere, a new Tex game is being made. Makes things just a bit brighter
It was a nice stream tonight. I´m so looking forward to the new games and novels of course!
I loved the Tex Murphy games, and I was glad I backed on Kickstarter. Best $500 I spent!
Thank you so much for this!
A Tex Murphy movie would be the next level. Think about it.

Played them all when they were released. Pandora Directive is still one of my favourite games.
Thank you so much for making this!
Thank you! Have loved these since my childhood. SMART yet hilarious fun gaming. Glad to see tex back. MOON still the best. ;-)
Fellas, if you ever thought to crowdfund updates or even just nicely emulated versions of the Beachhead games and Countdown, I would happily support. I loved those games and would love to play them again.
Can’t wait for the Pandora Directive remaster.
Bought Tesla Effect for the PC when it was new, would easily buy it again for a console.
I'd buy it again to get a physical copy if that existed.
Thought this was a backer only reward, good documentary
Backers get special access to a high definition, higher fidelity version to download and keep!
Love you guys, always
I wonder how many other people used to view the video file on the CD to find out how to pass a puzzle? I think they were .avi files.
Just watched this and realised I was wearing my project fredora backer shirt :)
Is there way to play these on P or Mac? 🙏
40:30 Chris Jones stands about 6 foot Sasquatch.
Loved it good job
Great
Good doc, but too short.
Tex Murphy! Love it!
"Information Super Highway"
In case you missed it, all this happened in the 90s.
39:52 - 40:42 So it brought youth back to everyone involved.

You guys need to do something with the guys from angry video game nerd. Get chris in character with James ;-)
Noice!

Lot of effort went into this....."game".
Tex is the best :) I bought all parts thanks guys for this great game and story 😍
