- We want you to join us, starting next week (Sept 2024) on our last 605 kilometres walking to Rome. On the eve of our departure, David and I share with you our trek so far, starting in London. This is the Via Francigena, a medieval travel route longer than the Camino de Santiago, winding through England, France, Switzerland and Italy.
We quickly bring you up to speed, sharing with you what we have seen in three previous segments (1,777 km over 77 days). At the same time, we offer practical advice should you want to do this too: pre-planning, pacing the walk, backpack considerations, accommodations, food while on the trail and at the end of each day (as always, we eat magnificently!) and train reservations (extra to our walking the walk).
The first segment takes us through Chaucer's England and World War I battlefields of France; the second segment is largely in the champagne vineyards of France and all that that implies; the third takes us into Switzerland along Lake Geneva and over the Great St. Bernard Pass, into the Italian Alps and the flat and fertile Poe Valley. For city lovers, there is Canterbury, Calais, Rheims (or Reims), Arras, Besançon, Lausanne, Turin and Milan (both off-route and so the trains)... and more.
Come walk with us.
This makes you want to do this walk, your a lovely couple best wishes
Thanks so much. Yes, you should do it!
This is magnificent reporting on the effects of the wars on the western front 😢
Thanks Debra. You truly get a feel for the losses on both sides of the line.
Can't beat the texture of B&W photography ❤
Agreed! Thanks for the feedback!
The Via Francigena continues! Thanks for this excellent review, packed with facts, photos and food. Wishing you well as you embark on the final stage of this magnificent recreation of an ancient pilgrimage 🚶
Once again, many thanks!
Your photos bring back great memories. Thanks......
Glad you enjoyed it. Much more to come in the coming weeks!
Excellent commentary....i think some live action video interspersed would be nice !....but very Lovely !
Thanks for watching! This video was a review of our Via Francigena trip up to Fidenza and predates our UA-cam venture. All my work prior to this video was actually still photography and posted on my blog at walkclickmake.com However all the following UA-cam posts leading up to our arrival in Rome are pure video. Hope you enjoy them!
Best wishes for safe travel with great weather. Did you mention about how many days it will take to finish up part 4?
Thanks for your good wishes. We will be walking for 25 days.
London to cantebury, the Britanica way....
When we did our walk to Canterbury in 2019 the Francigena Britannica did not exist (or it was not yet formalized). So we followed "London Pilgrimage Ways-Vol. 2: London to Canterbury" book by Reverend John M. Merrill. It was a thoroughly enjoyable walk.
