not a lot there anymore with geco closed and the mill in marathon demolished. I know people that moved there and then they get a taste of the winters and isolation and move away in a couple of years. The houses turn over pretty quick. If your comfortable living in a 8 store town and live to hunt and fish and snow mobile this could be your town but tyhere is no oportunities for real employment. If your a miner....? who wants to put in a 10 or 12 hour shift plus drive an hour to the mine and then an hour to drive home as the mine is halfway to Marathon (50 miles from Manitouwadge) ...lol..I worked and lived there for 12 years in the American Can and James River days...CAMP 15...LOL IN THE 80S until 92 then I migrated back to Kitchener and had a marvelous job at tyhe U of Waterloo for 24 years. I vacation to the north shore now for 3 weeks in the summer but could definately not live in these small comunities as you get older and need services. The hospitals in these small comunities are just bandaide stations.
