I always thought it would be difficult to make my own stencils because I would have to use flimsy paper and scissors. I am so glad I watched this because I didn’t know that there was a heating tool that could cut it into a stencil. I absolutely love this project and I’m going to try it. With the Dura Lar.
Well I guess I will need to look at purchasing a stencil cutter. This is so cool!

Thanks Francine. Good info! We have a local festival coming up in April and I've been looking for something I might could offer as a class during the festival. This has inspired me to maybe make some stencils and let folks make a simple quick painting. I could do a dragonfly and butterfly.

Love the idea of making your own stencils! The Grafix craft plastic can be used for this, too. I don't have a stencil cutter, but I do have dies & a Big Shot to create stencils that way, too :)

Thank you Francine, I have tried making stencils in the past but I didn’t know about the hot cutter. I just used an xacto knife to cut with. I can see where the hot cutter would make a much cleaner and smoother edge. I will be shopping! Thanks for the tips.

I have never imagined making my own stencils, until today. I was totally intimidated, but your articulate and helpful tips convinced me to give it try it in the Grafix Duralar. The possibilities are bouncing around my head with hummingbirds in the lead. Thank you for being such a compassionate and comprehensive instructor in my Alcohol Ink journey
I have been a long-term fan of Graphix Dura-bright for its ability to go back to such a clean white but couldn't foresee ever actually using the Duralar myself, much less making a stencil!
Were you using a Fanastix for the delicate white veins in the wings?

Would a Cricut cut a stencil out of the paper?
Cricut could cut a stencil but probably would need the deep blade for the Dura lar.
Love it!
I have used the cricut to cut the black and opaque craft plastic from duralar. I just picked a setting for thick cardstock. I just used the normal blade, I didn't have the deep cut so I just went for it.

I do not have a Cricut cutter so I cannot say for sure... but I can imagine it would do a great job. ♥
