"possibly a bit out of reach for some people". No, they are definitely completely out of reach for most people. That doesn't make them a bad idea, but let's be honest about the percentage of riders who can afford a £13k ebike.
I have the alloy levo 2022 ebike and it's a hell of a bike. A fairly capable rider and it handles everything I throw at it. Plus, the climbing ability is second to none.
Pricing is crazy but with an ebike I prefer cheaper aluminum, cheaper group sets with more steel than aluminum and aluminum wheels. You don't need to go crazy on upgrades as the motor is your big upgrade.
yes + it seems to be getting worse and worse. the entry level hardtail from haibike is now over 500€ more expensive than my hardnine was in 2016 it is just stupid.

If anything, it should come with the same price tag as mine did. And please dont say that production costs have risen. Thanks to Covid, Specialized like any other bike manufacturer has made more money over the last two years than they propably did in 10 years before. At the moment, they're literally drowning in cash and could easily keep their pricetags stable.
personally, I don't like carbon frames, I had a carbon Levo and hated it, so jarring to ride. I have an alloy Levo comp now, love it. just because you can make stuff out of carbon.. doesn't mean you should.
No matter how you look at it carbon is really just reinforced plastic. I worked warrantee dept. at Specialized and the amount of $8-10,000 bikes that came back with torn frames or broken chain stays would blow your mind. I would hate to be into a bike $12,000 dollars and after a fall down be out of a bike for the rest of the season.
I remember being in high school and making $3.50 and hour at my local bike shop. I obviously could not afford a top end bike, So I had to settle for an $800 Raleigh Elkhorn. I put a lot of miles on that bike and went over the bars more times than I like to remember. But now that I am older I am glad I can afford one of these bikes and bought the alloy turbo levo comp. It is night and day riding the two bikes. I no longer walk up hills and I can take corners a lot faster than I ever dreamed possible.
Has the motor decreased in size at all since the Gen 1 Levo? It's been 6 years and it still looks the same size as the massive one that came on the first Levo.
The thing for those of us who've been buying two-wheeled fun machines for all these decades is that no bicycle, hopped up with an electric moped motor or not, should cost more than a high-performance motorcycle. I mean, seriously, these are all beautiful machines, all of these e-bikes and particularly those from our friends in Northern California. But they go back to '74 when all the rage was affordable Japanese dirt bikes and mini-trucks and within a decade they were doing the same thing with mountain bikes. So I have much love for Specialized and their roots of importing Italian components for local bike shops and hauling them up El Camino Real, and I will keep window shopping and reminiscing and thinking that maybe an alloy-framed Specialized could be in my future.
I bought my Comp Alloy, the exact blue cobalt, last week with an extra discount to 5.000 € (4.300 £). The bike is an absolute beauty, I don’t deserve her 🥰
@4:20 So the bike for 7.200 euro hasn't got their new display (which has less functionality than every cheap chinese smart watch for 30 euro), lol, crazy. Apart from that, I'm totally fine with alloy bikes, the weight reduction from carbon is not really noticeable and you get better components for the same price, which have much more impact on the riding experience (at least for other brands, not sure about specialized 😅)
Carbon re-enforced resin is great for racing, but if you plan to keep a bike for a decent of time and use it for fun, then alloy might be a better option. Alloy is a more durable frame and might not be an issue with the more recent models and technologies but i had an 2008 s-works stumpy started to delaminate after 10years. In addition I have also seen handle bars collapse after nicks and damage to the surface of the bar. Personally Alloy all the way for me. I bought a comp kenevo and now have a option of upgrading and replacing components to durable items that work better for me over time i own it. This season S-Works race grade eBike may have lighter and you could argue less durable components, but I personally which i wont ever see the benefit of smashing it around the hills not even taking notice of the distance travelled more the width of my smile.
My question to the people who are complaining about the prices of these bikes, why are you wasting your time watching the video if you know you’re not gonna buy one?

They want to attract people to the more expensive bikes, so they save the most popular options (like the Mastermind unit) for the more expensive bikes. It's really just a marketing scam that just about every company in the world does. That Mastermind unit is about the only thing you *can't* upgrade on the bike. If you get the cheapest Levo, you can't always upgrade the components over time until you have a bike that's as good as the S-Works... *except* for the Mastermind unit. So they're hoping it gets people to buy the more expensive bike just for that reason. That being said, not sure that Mastermind unit really matters. I had my 2018 Levo for years, and all it had was a few LEDs to show battery level. It never presented me with any issues. I would never pay extra just for that Mastermind unit or some other fancy display.
@@realzyxtomatic theres a video on youtube where a guy puts a mastermind tcu in a cheaper levo and it works. So they are compatible. I guess its just a matter of time. Maybe also due to chip shortage you want to have that tcu in the bikes that generate most revenue. But its sure also because of marketing as you said😉
All yall "it's too expensive!" gripers are ridiculous... You price your products at what the market will bear, always, for everything. Not what it costs to make, or some percentage of a gas dirtbike, or how much an alloy hardtail cost 7 years ago. More importantly, if you think all bikes now are grossly overpriced and there are legions of people waiting to buy a cheaper alternative, then you've just identified a huge market opportunity and you should go START A BIKE COMPANY, bring that bike to market, and make millions (billions?) of dollars by charging the reasonable price you think is so obviously sustainable for these companies. ...except that every entrepreneur even thinking about bikes sees this and can't execute for a huge variety of reasons which is why 1) bike inventory is crazy low and 2) the prices are high. Supply x Demand = Price. Get real.
The only thing that's cool about the TCU display in my opinion are the 10%power increments. everything else I can live without you have that in the mastermind app. The fear of water penetration or breaking the glass screen is a worry.
Alloy is certainly the preferred material for emtb frames so is not having to make a comeback.. Whoever thinks carbon is the preferred material for emtbs is wrong. More suitable for steam bikes
Sure but try that nice car up a steep single track or through a forest or maybe hucking at the local trails, some table tops would be fun in a nice car. You get my point? You're comparing Tuesday to ice cream. Same with combustion M/C. Not allowed on most trails.
2:04 new display? Are you serious? Isn’t the comp carbon the lowest model in the range that gets the new display and all the alloy models still use the old one. You can do better than that.
@@embn not meaning to get into an argument about which model is the top range, that's is not the issue. At 2:04 the presenter is talking about the new display and yet in the video we are shown the old one.

All models just fucking expensive! Did they put gold into the frame, or do they have to higher the prices, so that they can pay the additional costs for PR on channels like EMBN?
Any chance of reviewing a real bike that normal people can actually afford. Even if I had 12k+ to spend for fun, I would just get a motorbike, insurance and tax for less than that. Nice but no thanks, I'll stick with my cheap budget ebike and just have fun
The name is worth 2K, on average for a specialized or trek. It varies on some models but upper end is 2 K more easy. But they sell the hell out of them, great ads, lots of people online selling big brand names.
I personally think they are still overpriced compared to other good brands, and the new motors are not as quiet as the older 1.3 motor ask Chris 1.3 was in his Kenevo stealth like motor unless under heavy load they may be more powerful but quiet they are not.
carbon on an ebike is just stupid tbh. carbon is less durable and more expensive. nobody cares if your ebike is 2kg lighter. electronic gears are just uneccessary aswell. i care more about durability than about flashy gimmicks but thats just me. i dont want to have to maintain my bike often. hardtail emtb from 2016 with 8600km and no service besides a new chain new tires the usual items for the win! if it dies god forbid i am just going to buy a newer yamaha as these seem to be pretty bulletproof
yes as we all went carbon ......snapped our frames and wheels and cant repair nor recycle it .....carbon is FUCKING SHITE :) all your saving is weight ......get stronger !!! :) lol
Specialized is like iPhone. They are superior products but they only cost that much because people will pay for them. I am an alloy Levo owner and I love it. Best bike I have ever owned but the only way I could afford it was to work for Specialized. You would not believe how many S-Works seats I saw get ordered and shipped that were $450, $185 dollar riding shirts, $500 dollar shoes. For Fuck sakes $500 shoes that you can only wear for one thing. They don't go with jeans or a tuxedo unless you're clipping into something. They are only catering to the rich or sponsored.
Thanks for the comment Louis. We do mean alloy! Most bikes made from 'Aluminium' are 6061 which is an aluminium alloy containing magnesium and silicon amongst other things 👍
@@embn You really mean aluminum alloy, but yeah, most people just say "alloy" when they really mean aluminum alloy. The rockshox is alot harsher through chatter, I have taken out a token front and rear, almost no low speed compression and speeded up rebound, but my answer is if you can afford Fox get it. If you get the new rockshox that comes out, I can't answer for that.
how can I tell wich gen i have
nvm i have the base alloy
Price is crazy, at the end of the day it’s a bike, nothing more, I don’t know maybe it’s just me.
I want that tcu master mind on the cheaper levos😢 why doesn't specialized use them in these?
Get real.
Amen! Apparently nobody understands basic economic theory anymore🤪
All in All, worth the $
15'000$
I usually make that in three weeks.
Time for a mew emtb I guess.
4:21 Still don’t see the justification for spending TWICE as much for the top of the line model (which isn’t as durable)😒
Love my 23 levo alloy. sure it's heavy but it moves downhill
Super nice! I need to remortgage 😅
They are just way too tempting! 😅
Nice bikes, but price of a nice car
I wouldn't say "nice" car.
My car is 70+k. So no not a car
@@msawyer110 your forking out that much for something that gets you from A to B, how much did it depreciate by once you drove it off the lot.
Hi @mina1805, The comp carbon is actually in the top range model. Thanks for the comment :)
@@embn not meaning to get into an argument about which model is the top range, that's is not the issue. At 2:04 the presenter is talking about the new display and yet in the video we are shown the old one.
The new display should be available in every 2022 model. This is making me reconsider purchasing a 2022 Comp Alloy.
Great bike but 500wh battery and low grade Suspension so bigger battery and better suspension and your back up to £8000. The only model that works is the expert. £8750🤭
I have a 20 Turbo Levo Comp. Woulden't want carbon. Had nothing but trouble with head tube bearings on the carbon bikes I have owned
Over priced for what you get
Agreed. For 5500 you could of got the 21 in full suspension with the 90nm motor
I got the 21 comp. 7,500. Has the 700 battery and better suspension.
bottom line levo? or an extra 800 quid for a top of the range action team cube with 750 wh battery
All models just fucking expensive!
Did they put gold into the frame, or do they have to higher the prices, so that they can pay the additional costs for PR on channels like EMBN?
I'd say that 8k puts them out of reach of most people....
Any bike that costs more than $2,500 is out.
Looks like your out too
Looks dated already there are so many better stealthier offerings for that price point
Makes me wonder why embn won’t review direct sales bikes like yt canyon poligon and propain I should go for yt or haibike over this over prices brand
Weight matters to me, why skirt around the weight???
Any chance of reviewing a real bike that normal people can actually afford. Even if I had 12k+ to spend for fun, I would just get a motorbike, insurance and tax for less than that.
Nice but no thanks, I'll stick with my cheap budget ebike and just have fun
I SUPPOSE THE PURPOSE OF THESE HIGH END BIKES IS TO BETTER RIDE THE TRAILS IN THE WOODS. A GAS POWER MOTOR CYCYLE CANT RIDE ON THOSE BIKE TRAILS.
Prices are high. Perhaps if financing was available like motorcycles have it would be more appealing to buyers.
"Possibly" too expensive for "some" people. I'm pretty sure you meant "probably" and "most."
They are expensive but they really are awesome fun….just don’t tell the wife how much they are ….sorted
hahaha that is the main issue
It never left
They should launch new motors
I feel specialized component spec is by far the worst vs price. However, people don’t seem to care or immediately upgrade.
Turbo Tero 3200 in US
Costing more than a top range BMW motorbike. Absolutely ludicrous. $2000 at the most for any of these.
Prices still totally off-putting tbh
Never understood why EMTBs are made with carbon fibre; pointless.
I'm terrible with money.
Even I think these are ridiculous prices.
£50? No, OK final offer £100 😂
levo with SRAM NO,NO thank you..... When they put SHIMANO gears I will get one alloy levo.
That motor size is a fkin joke in 2022.
Rather buy a dirt bike for less
or 2 surrons 👍
carbon on an ebike is just stupid tbh. carbon is less durable and more expensive. nobody cares if your ebike is 2kg lighter. electronic gears are just uneccessary aswell. i care more about durability than about flashy gimmicks but thats just me. i dont want to have to maintain my bike often. hardtail emtb from 2016 with 8600km and no service besides a new chain new tires the usual items for the win! if it dies god forbid i am just going to buy a newer yamaha as these seem to be pretty bulletproof
E mtb and mtb bike are stupid expensive for no reason wtf
"Possibly out of reach" 🤦 what world do you guys live in please let us know.
The price of owning and maintaining one of these poorly engineered toys is beyond a joke. I'll stick with motorcycles thanks.
Over 5k
Still big ugly motor.
Shit components
500 battery
I think I will buy a high end model from another manufacturer for 500 less
yes as we all went carbon ......snapped our frames and wheels and cant repair nor recycle it .....carbon is FUCKING SHITE :) all your saving is weight ......get stronger !!!
I think ebikes are sick, but this channels such a joke 😂
Pure commercial advertisements. How much did specialized pay for this 😂😂
Specialized most overpriced bikes ever
Nah Sanra Cruz have that title locked down
Dont say alloy, alloy is a mix of different metals, you mean aluminium
Or ... Aluminium alloy.
Thanks for the comment Louis. We do mean alloy! Most bikes made from 'Aluminium' are 6061 which is an aluminium alloy containing magnesium and silicon amongst other things 👍
@@embn burn 🔥 is real lol
@@embn You really mean aluminum alloy, but yeah, most people just say "alloy" when they really mean aluminum alloy. Steel is also an alloy, but oddly, we refer to it as steel, not "alloy" or "steel alloy." In general, an alloy is just a mix of metals. I don't mean to be pedantic. Just figured the clarification might help some folks who are curious.
"₤13000, ₤10750 and ₤8750 which makes them possibly a little out of reach for some people"?
You're taking the piss right? : /
Edit:
"So if you're on a long ride you can really control your power, so you only need just the amount you need"
You are taking the piss lol
I wouldn't even spend that on a car. I think there is still an unrealistic premium on ebikes. You can get a pretty serious emotorbike for that sort of money.
