I watched the show that evening and had never heard of Bonnie Raitt before that night. “Nick of Time” ended up becoming my favorite song of all time. It still moves me just as much in 2023 as it did when I fell in love with it in 1989. The lyrics are everything! Such an awesome song!
Bonnie deserved it, and it’s a nice album. And the fellow nominees were Don Henley - The End of the Innocence Fine Young Cannibals - The Raw and The Cooked Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever Traveling Wilburys - Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 By the way, I love to see the one and only Ella Fitzgerald.
This belongs alongside "Sergeant Pepper", "Tapestry", "Songs in the Key of Life", "Thriller" and "The Joshua Tree" (pre-1991) as the most deserving Album of the Year winners.
Long overdue and very well deserved. She has one of the absolute best bands ,of my time anyway, out there working hard to keep the blues alive for one thing. Truly one of my all time favorite musical talents! Congratulations!
We need more rewind. For us, who weren't even born then, want to experience those historic moments of our legends. Pl start with Celine Dion 1999 and 1992, awards
Thank you for not cutting out the artist' reaction and walk to the stage. However it would be nice to see the entire award presentation, meaning the announcement of the presenters (I don't know who the lady is with Natalie Cole) and seeing who the fellow nominees were.
It was so unexpected that the broadcast had Raitt winning Best Pop Vocal Female on the screen instead of Album Of The Year. Thankfully it shouldn't be a surprise anymore when she wins.
Well, it was a different time. The Grammys were not necessarily nominating hugely popular artists or works back then. This was a deserved win, though. Just because Bonnie Raitt and Nick of Time were not as commercially successful or culturally influential as Madonna and Like a Prayer doesn't mean her album didn't deserve this award. She won it on the basis of musical excellence too.
Talk about a long lasting career, she just won Song Of The Year in 2023!!
Natalie Cole's reaction is everything to me. Wow. Such respect. And Ella Fitzgerald. Are you kidding? A classic Grammy moment, maybe the best.
You can tell from this win how humble and appreciative Raitt is as an artist! Fantastic win...amazing singer!
I remember this night well. I cried. I was 20 years old. How the world has changed ❤️❤️❤️

The Joshua tree 😍😍😍😍 I love
When the world discovered the greatness of Bonnie Raitt. One of Grammy's best moments.
yeah, and what an example of humility too, something the world needs now more than ever.
Bonnie raitt you deserve it. I appreciate your work of art.
Back in the day when people won Grammies base of off the quality of product and the work that went into it.
DESERVED!!!!!!
This was back when people still watched the Grammy's. I remember it well. She CLEANED UP that night.

I LOVE BONNIE RAITT 😃😍
To the person reading this: Even tho I dont know you, I wish you the best of what life has to offer🌠💞🐐
Thank you! I wish the same to you!

Bonnie mentions it in her speech - the queen of jazz herself, the amazing Ella Fitzgerald. What a convergence of talent on that stage!

I thought it was Dr Mattie Moss but when Ms Ella started talking mind blown
Bonnie is a great performer but being on the same stage with Ella Fitzgerald is a moment all on its own!
Awesome win!!
my god Ella Fitzgerald!!?😮
Like a prayer is best album the 1989, grammys son corruptos
Nope.
