  • This remarkable and profound teaching on modes of contemplation by Thomas Merton, is from the chapter, Pure Love from the text "Seeds of Contemplation."
Thomas Merton (January 31, 1915 - December 10, 1968) was an American Trappist monk, writer, theologian, mystic, poet, social activist, and scholar of comparative religion. On May 26, 1949, he was ordained to the priesthood and given the name "Father Louis". Merton wrote more than 50 books in a period of 27 years, mostly on spirituality, social justice and a quiet pacifism, as well as scores of essays and reviews.

“So that the contemplation itself becomes the Presence…….” ❤. Once someone falls into the depths of the ecstasy of the Beloved there is no returning to the previous shadow….that is the wonder of it…..knowing that once we fall into the depths of Knowing it will always be there and cannot be taken away. Having that with me brings so much peace knowing I still have the second half of my life to live while completely feeling and knowing the ecstasy of God Itself.

To grasp the unknown of the Devine I try to grasp the concept of ‘ No Beginning and No Ending’ .. to just Be.. in the quiet of my mind there is the rest and pause and perspective I need to twist away from the minds grip. And there I am. As always.. without beginning or ending. That which I am saw the first day of my life. That same ‘I’ is the witness of this very day. ❤

This kinda Mystic, lenghty descriptions are big step back from
the straightforward, profound, bril ideas of Nisargadatta or Neville 😍
The facts mirrors this, that the popular (popcorn) Spirituality, like Tolle, Mooji and co. leads nowhere ... But not in a good sense of Nowhere 🤭
No real breakthrough, not an exact POINTER, as the real great teachers, like Nisargadatta or Ramana used to show us WHAT AND HOW TO DO 😍

    • @youarewhatyourelookingfor4496
      @youarewhatyourelookingfor4496 2 роки тому

@@antalperge1007 agreed. Mooji is relatively direct.
Ramana , Papaji, Nisagardatta all often go deeper than I can quite grasp “ even though it “feels “ absolutely correct.
Mooji is a bit gentler. I did a 3 day retreat with him and it was wonderful.
I’m technically in retreat constantly as I listen and meditate to Samaneri’s station everyday throughout from waking to sleep and in between work and play.
I don’t know much if anything but I do know this was yet another amazing talk.
I appreciate his capacity to draw a a picture of his experience. I don’t see it becoming a conceptual obstacle either.
As if that could block what is waiting (god) although many teachers note conceptualizing mind as being an obstacle.
Of course in zen obstacles are the path so who knows. Lol
      Anyway, I appreciated your comment

Individuality is not an illusion. Though it is not the basis for who we are, it is still apart of who we are. Just like the fingers are not the hand, they are still apart of the hand and make up the hand. Without the fingers, though there would still be a hand, the hand would be incomplete. Same thing with identity. Without our individuality and particularities, our identity is just generality; an expressionless entity; incomplete with no true color.

Contemplation is very difficult to describe, if it really even is possible. That may be why, for lack of a better word, Thomas Merton chose the word "modes" at the start of the chapter. Most experts on Thomas Merton however, say that he was not teaching any particular methods of prayer. This chapter on Pure Love is at the end of the book, and the three modes that he is introducing are just suggestions for possible beginnings based on his own experience. He does not cite any references in this chapter, only himself as author and Catholic Priest saying that this tranquility is learned most of all in Eucharistic Communion. When establishing the Eucharist, the very real voice of Jesus Christ told his Apostles to do this in remembrance of him.

      Hello!
I have no problem describing contemplation. That's all I have done every day my whole entire life. That, and read 📚 😅 In fact I have a art book series called Think & Ponder's Journey through the Abstract.
It's about that without concept forming concepts.
