I think the reason why Ryos voice actor sound robotic is because they try to make him sound as emotionless as possibly fitting him into the non emotional stereotype of a Japanese man
He has such a strange cadence and emphasis. Sometimes he sounds like an automaton, other times he's pretty normal. If it's some intentional quirck to simulate the result of a "strict 80s Japanese dojo upbringing" it's masterful, or he's just super weird. Either way it's an iconic part of Shenmue now.
@@Ch35h1r3C47 from what I hear it's intentionally done to emulate the first 2 games' dub, just a fun nod to long time fans. Though the Japanese voice acting can also be a bit generally stilted too, at least in the first one lol. I guess it was the first game of this type and magnitude of voiced dialogue after all. Pretty loveable aspect but wouldn't mind more natural direction in the future
@@Ch35h1r3C47 I think you have a point! It probably was written to emulate how a strict highly disciplined young martial artist like Ryo would likely have difficulty forming emotional attachment to others both due to his strict mindset as a fighter, his firm loyalty to his father, and his crushing depression regarding losing him and wanting to find and take out his murderer Lan Di! With all that baggage, it's no wonder he's perplexed when any female treats him in a decent manner, let alone forms emotional attachment to him! In some ways it's deeply tragic, but in other ways it's hilarious at least in terms of his inability to form complete thoughts and have an engaged discussion when they're around him! 😂🤣
I wonder when and how you're able to acquire that blue vest Ryo is wearing! It looks so cool and has the same dragon symbol on the back as his traditional brown school jacket he wore throughout all three Shenmue games! This blue vest also makes him look like both a parking valet and a casino bartender! Very interesting! 😎👍
In Bailu Village, talk to the guy who rents the fishing equipment until he mentions the contest. Win the contest (catch 4 different Catfish) and the Jacket is yours.

World Events Judgement actually when Ryo talks to Shenhua at her house Ryo ask Shenhua about her friends if you pick (there are 3 options) the guy who practices martial arts and wears white in Bailu Shenhua will talk about how they’re childhood friends and the moment where he visits her house and runs away and then Ryo said “I should keep an eye on him” jealous much XD

They need some water. 😏😏
Shenmue is my only chance to flirt with a woman
And ryo only has lan di on his mind.
>i need money
2:49 come on my place
Just fuckin do it Ryo
Ryo would rather fight Lan Di then do that lol.
Ryo's voice actor is like a voice synthesizer rather than an actual human

These could lead to great quick time events for Ryo.
Hope he does better than a quick time though...

While the writing is bad... These women seem to be some of the best voice actors in the game
at least the bad writing was on purpose

Me? Well...

Huh?
At first is funny, but by the end of the game it is kind if insulting, and I am a man...
