The uncanny valley refers to a chart that tracks facial recognition and reactions to them. The valley in the chart drops sharply getting close to human, to the left its cute or charming, to the right is a human face, the valley looks creepy, according to polling data.
I see Carcosa similarly to Troy. When Joe asked him if he thought people were walking the streets, I always imagined it's similar to those old photos of American cities, where for some reason in the 1800s it was always empty.
I love that effect - those old cameras were so slow at gathering light that exposures often took many minutes. People walking by were too ephemeral to leave an image on the glass plates.
Oh man love the opening banter on this. Heavy agree with Skid's opinion and reference to LSD and seeing how the dilation of time and reality would make a hellscape
These characters have been very entertaining and all i want for the ending is roger to take on the king in yellow for a final epic showdown just as Neal is about to be crowned king i hope this season is at least 15 to 20 episodes long
Carcosa is the place where you can't quite forget who you are; where nothing is ever what it seems like it is, and is almost always worse. It's where, at least for human beings, identity of anything is inconstant.
Another way of saying that is that in ordinary experience, we live with the persistent illusion of "self" ("I am...x"), which is a kind of epiphenomenon flowing from our limited ability to experience time/space, combined with the ways in which our sense of the "right now" fuzzes over a few seconds of duration that is reinforced by the symbolic (language) and social reinforcement of the "not I" and how everything gets encoded in memory. In Carcosa, the "I" dissolves, but not in a Zen Buddha mind kind of way, rather in a kind of regression into an impotent observation of masks being ripped away and revealing the emptiness at our core as it is continuously being filled with fantasies we never had or wanted or imagined--and then everyone has tea.
The troy he would be if his body didn't betray him with age, illness, and progeny.. TBH, same. Just quit that routine 2 months ago, and the coffee doesn't hit the same by itself.
Since Sydney brought up the film Coraline, it's only right that the source material should get a plug as well: Neil Gaiman's novella is very much worth reading. He added a remarque of a rat when he signed my copy.
Carcosa to me always made me think of a desolate landscape, the earth a mixture of soil and rotting flesh, with cavernous cavities opening up as the sound of a juicy burp echoes over the landscape. You are caught and digested, there is no hope, you are a part of it. It's a very vivid image in my mind, lol.
That was my image when I picked up The King in Yellow by Chambers, and it's not supported by anything in the literature, but it's never escaped my imagination
I remember final fantasy. 3d was pretty new and this was the first big time someone really really invested in the models to look good. Part of the uncanny valley I remember is that they look really detailed. But the expressions and movements arnt quite right.
In all honesty, I think his character play bogged down the episode this time. I kept falling asleep at the end. Either way, I'm looking forward to the next episode!
Excellent backing being used in this whole series anyone know what they use? I know they used syrenscape in their first pathfinder game. The suspense in the track at 1:20:00 is fantastic want to steal it for my game.
How does Neil not have extremely pruned skin from standing in running water for more than an hour? Will Sydney drop the phone bit in the next few episodes? Jesus 😵💫 Also not sure why Sydney doesn't just..I dunno..borrow Neil's phone? They all have cellphones..
"You said some hurtful things" was the best thing I've heard in a week
you might not like it, but this is what the top of the mountain looks like. perfect show.
If Carcosa is four hour long episodes of get in the trunk, consider me an agent of the king in yellow!
HE SAID IT
HE SAID THE THING!

Syd has the Ars Goetia. The Agents have it as well. its driving me nuts that nobody has hopped on the name "Labolas" yet.
Glasya-Labolas, the demon of bloodshed. I learned about it recently from SMTV Vengeance
This is the last season? Yeah, if it's 49 episodes! 😂
Joe, you are so damn GOOD at this
Finally caught up on previous seasons and first time watching live! Successful birthday!!
I have watched this every day since I discovered it and I’ll be so sad when it’s over !! Amazing
Oh yeah lets get into the trunk gang!
I love that Joe's trying so hard to control his smile when Syd is talking about Carcosa refs at 05:00
Great ep. "You left me no choice," is best quote of the episode.

Does anyone remember the Masque of the Red Death film from 1964? I see aspects of that film mixed in, as well.
Oh man love the opening banter on this. Heavy agree with Skid's opinion and reference to LSD and seeing how the dilation of time and reality would make a hellscape
It's a good day when a new EP of Get in the Trunk drops!
Note to self: do LSD with Skid at some point in your life
God that cliffy! Loved this week's episode!
Roger said the thing!
Joe: When I say Carcossa, what do you think of?
Me, in my head: New Londo.
These characters have been very entertaining and all i want for the ending is roger to take on the king in yellow for a final epic showdown just as Neal is about to be crowned king i hope this season is at least 15 to 20 episodes long
Carcosa? A terrifying mix of a lack of object permanency and eternal existence so it is like a fever dream you'll never wake up from and never ends.
It's back, baby!
Roger 'Gaslighter' Cumstone.
Hell yeah the titular episode! ♥️UCB for ever!♥️
No better way to recover from Phish bethel and Phish MondeGreen but with more improvised epicness! Thank you GCP!
Dark Matter was a really good show. Great reference.
Finally, a titular "Get in the trunk" moment... or is it literal? :D
Best show on the network
Digging the Mariner’s hat skid!
I love Carcosa as mental illness/reckoning with conceiving the inconceivable
Most unsettling game I've played is In Sound Mind, think Joe would really dig it

Anyone else ever had the feeling that you woke up in a time or place thats "off"....and then you find out about the Mandela Effect?
Why do I get the impression that Roger’s morning Dunkin’ coffee n smokes routine is an actual “old school Troy” memory?
Almost like he's playing the Troy he wanted to be
The troy he would be if his body didn't betray him with age, illness, and progeny.. TBH, same. Just quit that routine 2 months ago, and the coffee doesn't hit the same by itself.

"It's the Black Wind." Probably completely unrelated, but for folks who know some other campaigns in the genre... highly suggestive and horrifying.
Yup
I am looking forward to season 3 episode 4 'Trunk Party'
Get in your trunks!
Yooo Dark Matter shout out! Loved that show
Back in the Trunk!

I think nitty gritty were an 80s band, I remember them singing Wood Beez
Epic ending!
77 signifies a profound spiritual journey... to where is the question

First time watching this live!!!
Jesus Christ, Joe, you are amazing!
More Francis in front of camera please. Bring back Ron Yolo
In all honesty, I think his character play bogged down the episode this time. I kept falling asleep at the end. Either way, I'm looking forward to the next episode!
"Let's cut away from Bobby," was the best line of the episode.
Get in the trunk!
Very cool this time. Thanks guys! 👍
I think Carcosa has similarities to the Dark Place from Alan Wake. Seaking of which Joe, you've played Control so Alan Wake II should be on the list😁.

Troys mic is picking up a bit too much sniffles. Someone fix the gain!
Roger's gotta Cumstone!!
1:44:35 He has the crayon.
No choice.
Thank baphomet that Troy actually had read some mythos and we didn't end up with a lame multiverse.
I don't remember a time when he said he didn't.
How does Neil not have extremely pruned skin from standing in running water for more than an hour?
Will Sydney drop the phone bit in the next few episodes? Jesus 😵💫
Also not sure why Sydney doesn't just..I dunno..borrow Neil's phone? They all have cellphones..
Isn't rolling 00 & 0 = 10?
Sad to hear this is the last season, but understandable.. 😢
Last season of this campaign. Get in the trunk definitely has no plans of stopping
I like your show. But keep real world politics out of it.
