  • When our hidden helicopter didn't get up enough power to escape our sea-going sawdust mountain, we knew our only option was to turn to rocket power. Watch as we capture awesome physics in slow motion!
    Sawdust was made from non-treated wood and is ecologically friendly.

    I am just going to say this.. As a man in my early 40's, i'm so delighted to see that there are other people my age that still enjoy playing or "hobbying" with small rockets and ships and such.. GREAT VIDEOS my friend!!!

    Imagine if the sawdust had ignited

    • @MilanKarakas
      @MilanKarakas 10 років тому +4

      In theory possible, but requires spreading sawdust first, then ignition. Doing spreading and ignition at the same time equals nothing - just silencing launching sound (sound is attenuated by the sawdust) at the beginning. Nothing else.

    Thanks very much! And 100% agreed re: the hobby being the point.

    You might try this with lots of coffee creamer instead of sawdust. See mythbusters' sawdust cannon myth. Warning: more fire than usual.

    I found it surprising that the rocket is long gone and the sawdust bubble is still expanding. Surprising, but cool looking. Thanks for posting.

    Very cool launch! I was surprised the rocket took off as fast as it did. Have you ever flown water rockets before?

  • @xKmotx
    @xKmotx 12 років тому +1

    That was pretty cool! :)
    Suggestion: Keep one slow-mo camera on the dust pile the whole time, and have another to record the flight.

    OK! Now for bigger rockets....and more sawdust!
    Great Effect!

    This video is actually very deep and it speaks about the American economy and down fall of future generations.
    The saw dust symbolizes the increasing national debt. First we try to just cut a little at a time, with the helicopter. But try as we might there is just no getting up and over that hurdle. We need something more powerful, a lot more powerful. What we need is an idea, a new feeling, something to inspire hope. A new space race. The rocket symbolizes that, and is thus able to rise up!

    nice how the sawdust formed an expanding sphere. It tells how the pressure is expended at the pad. And nice aircraft carrier build. Awaiting your orders capt!

    Coffe creamer or sawdust (cannon) can ignite (as seen On Mythbusters' episode), ONLY if thoroughly mixed with air. On this video, rocket exhaust is full of carbon dioxide and water (aside other chemicals), no much oxygen, so very unlikely to produce the same effect. Many years ago, I tried similar experiment with black gunpowerder - trying in the same time making big plume of sawdust and ignite it - FAIL. Okay, some pieces goes into flame, but nothing spectacular. What was spectacular at the end of the day is terrible mess around 'launching' site. :D

  • @Verradonairun

    The cloud is too dense for enough air to come in and mix with it. One might say the sawdust was oxygen-deprived and that this deprivation lead to the failure of not igniting.
