- It's about that time. Wythenshawe Hall has been haunted by the ghost of Mary Webb since the English Civil War. Cromwell's parliamentarian forces came to take the hall from Robert Tatton in the winter of 1643. Mary Webb and her Fiancé were killed in the ensuing battle. Ghost monks, the ghost of the family dog, Patch and many other unexplainable paranormal activity takes place at Wythenshawe Hall but it's most famous former resident is the ghost of Mary Webb.

I was born in Manchester, lived in Wythensahwe (NewallGreen) for 20+ years, spent every weekend being dragged to Wythenshawe park as a kid and being forced around the house.
I say forced as a kid I did not want to be looking at old houses, I wanted to play in the park. and hunt Stickleback in the stream. I dont know if your facts are right or wrong, and to tell the truth I dont much care, What I do care for is good content, and this is that. Thank you for bringing back my past, and also showing Wythenshawe has History. Well written, and well filmed our kid. Again thank you and keep going :-)

I still pass Wythenshawe park regularly on my way to work,also Baguley Hall on Hall Lane is an incredible building. A pretty tudor home left neglected to me that in itself is a crime. Incredible period of history,many historical buildings abandoned and neglected. Really don't understand. The craftsmanship of the people who built these homes is second to none,you couldn't just nip to B&Q for power tools and so on these were hand crafted by skilled people. The Tudor period fascinates me above any other period of architecture,just a master class of how things should be done. Interestingly most Tudor houses that are still standing are of better quality than most new houses and much stronger.

Cuz it talks abt a place that isn't talked much abt but I'd really like to know more about the family dog Patch cause theres not much things on the Internet abt it. Is the burial place still there (i don't mean the wooden tablet on the tree i mean the little black plate thing on the ground) And has there been anymore pets buried in the Wythenshawe gardens?

there all there, we stumbled across these when we were kids , 9, 10 years of age, they was all covered up with bushes, grass, always remember reading there names...64 now
Very interesting piece but unfortunately with a few inaccuracies. I apologise for being picky but I am the Heritage Coordinator for Friends of Wythenshawe Hall and have been doing research on Wythenshawe Hall and Tatton family for the last 9 years.
The portrait shown is more likely to be the grandfather of Robert the Royalist. It was believed to have been painted by Cornelius Johnson between 1620-1630. As Robert the Royalist was only born in 1606 the man depicted is much too old. His grandfather, another Robert Tatton died in 1623-4 and is thought to have been in his 60s at the time of his death, so it is more likely to be him.
The chandelier mentioned is not the one shown. I have seen that one spontaneously moving in circles but it is possible to reach out and touch it. I was there on the night that the one mentioned was moving. I watched it for about 5 minutes and I also video'd it. It is much harder to reach unless you climb up. We tried and failed to recreate it's movements later.

Thank you. The painting was labeled as him 10 years after the siege but I defer to on this. Also the chandelier was from a newspaper article claiming it as the one but again I will defer to you on this. There’s also another youtube video of someone claiming it as the one, with it moving and unable to reach. I hope it hasn’t deterred you from subscribing to the channel and joining us on more adventures through Manchester history.
I really mystified when I heard the sentence handed down to the low life who destroyed part of our heritage when he started the fire,devastating news.
Do you know what's happening with Baguley Hall ? I think Lord and lady Simon were the last inhabitants of Wythenshawe Park Hall and they named Sheena Simon college after her. The story goes they donated the Hall and the park to the people of Manchester for recreational purposes.

My old neighbour Phil said his Dad was a night watchman in the hall, and having nodded off was awoken just before the end of his shift by an elizabethan gentleman, saving him from being caught out !

There is a tunnel connecting wythenshawe and baguely hall, when I worked at baguley hall as a security guard years ago I seen the entrance to the tunnel but had all been cemented and bricked up.

Few days age I was crossing 3:30am , it was pitch dark, a lady was standing in the middle of the road, she is not moved or waved her hands. It was not like a human act . She stood and not even walking or asking for help. I got scared and googled it. And seen this video. It was scary though.

I've been inside the Hall after dark and it's just an old creaky building that moves when temperature and humidity changes ! Nice bit of fiction for people who believe in stuff like that ? No doubt you are trying to get ready to promote the 'Ghost hunting tours' at silly prices !
My good man you have mistaken me completely. I have nothing to do with ghost tours. This channel does little “documentaries” about the things I have learned about Manchester since I moved here four years ago. This video was just a little pre-Halloween fun with a history lesson to boot. Whether or not there are ghosts there, it is part of the story of this building and the culture and ledgends surrounding it. Check out some of the other videos on this channel. Try this one first.
