Yeh its lots better in colour but alot more episodes than people think were filmed in colour but were put out in black and white. I cant remember why they did it but they did, and a few episodes have been lost
@@debodevil6974they were originally broadcast in colour in the UK in the early 70s actually The BBC reused film in the 80s and a lot of stuff was destroyed also Black and white versions were kept by other TV companies outside the UK that couldn't broadcast in colour but not all of them and some have been restored using privately made at the time 8mm silent footage and the audio synced with it as the audio recording was always retained. Quite a lot of work was put in by an independent appreciation society to reconstruct some episodes
Lucky the bank manager doesn't remember them from the time he scraped together 850 quid from the residents commitee to bribe them from buying Torremolinos
When they're at the resteraunt and the wife says "Isn't that Michael Caine over there ?" the auto generated cc read "Isn't that my cocaine over there ?" - Too funny !!
The colourisation is too much on the blue spectrum but lovely to see it colourised. An absolutely Hilarious episode. We never find out how they pay the lease but must have managed it somehow as it's business as usual in Oil Drum lane by the beginning of the next series (series 6).
At 2:23 Harold said he would mortgage the station. Just before this, Albert said that Harold was £633 short. The mortgage station gave Harold £100, so Albert should have said now he is £533 short, but at 2:28 Albert said Harold is short by £363 short. Did the writers not understand basic math?
Certain foods were priced different back then also, so we can't really judge what the food would cost now just by inflation, but it does give us an estimated idea.
@@AbrasiousProductions In your defence I have just looked at 2 pictures side by side and on those 2 there is an uncanny resemblence . I would never have looked at either and said they did . Credit where it’s due , I will give you that !!

Absolutely

Audio subtitles can be hilarious, rude, and downright annoying godsends.

I knew he looked like Michael Caine! that scene made my day!
Thank you for introducing me to Steptoe & Son, a most unusual & enjoyable show.
Have you seen the American version Sanford and son
@@MrBradblade Yeah, and it doesn't compare in the least. America never does anything original, it is invariably copied and fucked up in the process.

That meal after inflation is over £200 in today’s money

That cost probably suits the point . It was meant to be higher class resturant . £200 meal for 4 isn’t The Ivy prices….
Is it me or has only fools story lines very similar to this show made 15 years before ❤
