i have been waiting for someone to draw attention to this problem. im not slytherin but i hate that they are all painted to be bad guys. honestly, if they end up bad, that's because they're placed in a house with a bad reputation and at age 11, their minds are still very malleable. by being put in a house in which they can't experience different views, they end up having their parents views forced upon them and the other children in the house have similar problems. take draco for example. he has grown up being told that the world is supposed to grovel at his feet because he's pureblood, that's what he was raised on. he gets placed in slytherin with children who had similar views forced upon them by their parents. he grows up with people who have the same views as him, but his views are not his! they're his parents! he doesn't have an opinion until book 5, when he has to kill dumbledore and his human nature of compassion and sympathy and guilt come into play, his views start to change. he doesn't want to do it but what choice does he have, if he doesn't, voldemort will kill him and his family. and then snape, another character who i believe was never bad to begin with, just misunderstood and heart broken, comes and kills dumbledore for draco so he doesn't have to live with that guilt, and also because it was dumbledore's order. but no matter how much you argue, snape CARED about draco, snape wanted to PROTECT draco. he did the UNBREAKABLE VOW to kill dumbledore if draco failed. i highly doubt that was part of dumbledore's plan. i need to stop before this gets too long. long story short, slytherins are just a bunch of misunderstood children, not bad. some ended up bad yes, but only because no one took the time to try and understand them.
