For over the wheels,,,cut some 2" strips of foam, laminate these together and build up a strip vertically behind and in front of the wheels. Also go horizontally above the fenders. These laminated strips would only need to be as thick as the fenders. Then add a foam sheet to the face of the laminated strips that will cover the wheel area. I know it may mean sticking tape to the painted surface, but I think this is the easiest way to cover the wheels.

I like this idea, but I would personally give the bottom end of the foam "feet" in the form of either lumber or metal studs that have 1 inch slots in them. There are so many types of construction framing studs that there are bound to be 8 foot framing pieces with 1 inch slotting in them. You can basically spike these into the ground and then set the foam into them. It will secure the bottom of the skirting against storm wind pressures and have a better chance of lasting longer because anything right on the ground will basically ROT whether it claims it won't or not. . I realize this would increase the cost of the job by a few hundred bucks, or less if you can make the slots yourself and not search for parts that are already slotted for some other purpose, or make them out of multiple pieces of smaller lumber like 1x2's. . As a cheaper and attractive creative solution I would also consider just putting decorative rocks stacked against the inside and outside a few inches high just to hold the bottom of the skirts in place. This would also hide any slope gaps.potentially, although if you cut the foam at an angle you can minimize these as well rather than trying to go square. ( I didn't quite watch the entire video before making the rocks comment. You did the same thing with free and available woodchips you already had. I just recommend that you put something against the inside as well. Maybe a few well placed rocks or lumber just to keep the bottoms from pushing inwards. Rocks have the advantage of more weight to hold the skirting in place, and provide natural drainage, but if I had a pile of woodchips, I'd have done the same. All in all tho, what a great idea, perfect material. Great choice of thickness, and if you live in an area protected by all those trees maybe you wouldn't need so much of a footing. An idea, rather than trying to fill in the gaps around the tires, how about just covering them on the outside with a sort of a popout box made of foam. More boards required I realize, but other advantages perhaps. You have a beatiful environment there. Databyter

Nice job. Lools great. We get a little colder here so i used 2in board on mine when i did that. I also enclosed the front gooseneck area to keep the sleeping area there more efficient on heating. On the wheels i putthe boardon the outside and taped the end seams. Foil tape is great stuff for a lot of otger thjngs so hopefully you have some leftover from the first roll. Tape (especially foil tape) works amazing for tiny slivers that ya cant necessarily see like metal or fiberglass.

If it were me, I'd buy some marine upholstery vinyl and make a fitted cover to the wheel wells. Using some stainless steel snaps to secure it to the wheel wells. Material Cost around $100 for the vinyl and around $300 for a cheap leather shoe patcher sewing machine (with the threads, needles, stainless snaps and screws) These covers would be custom to only your RV and far outlast the foam boards, so they can be reused year after year. The sewing machine would pay for itself over time because it gives you the ability to make your own awnings, covers, bags, leatherwork and maybe even fix a pair of boots in the process.

Great video! Thank you. We will be doing this to our 5th wheel soon. I was trying to sort out how I'd cover the forward area of the camper as most of the 'professional' skirts seem to, but noticed you didn't do it. I'm curious as to why you didn't. Our lithium batteries are in that front storage area and I'm concerned it will get below freezing in there and harm the batteries when they charge.

      Hey there, Paul!
I have to say that is too cool that you are from Nova Scotia.
I have never been there myself, but I do know and have heard that it’s a very, very beautiful place.
My stepdad was born there, and still has a lot of family that are still there.
      Last name MacNeil.
As far as insulating the pipes, you definitely want to do as much as you possibly can otherwise you’ll spend a lot more money and repairs which no one wants to do that in the middle of the winter or anytime for that matter! lol
The RV that we have has a skirting directly underneath which protects the pipes from freezing but when I installed my water source, I definitely had to dig down 2 feet and run a 2 inch conduit which I run the water hose through.
We just got some cold weather here that was down to -7 Fahrenheit and everything worked out just fine.
One of the things that you learn along this journey of living in a RV is that, though you think you are completely prepared you will always find a situation or circumstance that you didn’t prepare for… Some people may say they don’t want to take on this responsibility but honestly, I feel it’s a lot more rewarding in the long run.
Again, my friend I send many many prayers and blessings to you and your family
