How it boggles the mind as to why Haley Reinhart was voted third place this season no less too. She wasn’t the most consistent singer but who knows why she was. Maybe it was because of Pia being voted out who knows? But I think Idol wanted to find a successful huge guy singer who plays guitar and sadly enough none of the winners at the time were even considered successful compared to female singers like Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. It started with the David’s season. David Cook won but he wasn’t at peak level like Carrie Underwood success. Then after that Idol definitely started to decline when Kris Allen won over Adam Lambert and nobody seemed to know why. I remember watching the Daughtry elimination at my in-laws house. I yelled at the TV and didn't watch Idol for the rest of that season. Granted he was sooooooooo much better off than he would have been if he had won.
The votes were what makes this show impossible to like. Fans don’t know nothing about trends or music and votes can be sold and rigged. I did not even have a phone at the time so I could not vote. Also usually played past my bed time. 😂. But Chris is a good guy and a dad. He also made another album in 2018. Also great. Backbone and Deep End. Great songs.

You know the coolest part of this story is....Chris is such a great example for all of those that are on shows such as American Idol who don't make it to the finals or win....He is such a very good example for those that feel like they failed and are therefore "awful". A very good example ....to never give up, and never take it that just because you did not go as far as you hoped on these shows, it never means that you are a failure and awful at it all, instead look at the good and the experience you gained and fight to go further and achieve that musical dream, if that was it but never judge yourself based on a show like this! How many winners on all these shows have ever even done anything to become a musical superstar like Chris? Really, many of the winners have not even achieved that stardom and status and success. So no, these shows.... winning it is not what makes the success of a contestant! In a way...Chris' story and experience and not winning the american idol title was truly a blessing!! And I say a blessing because he and his story is a very good message for all of those that did not make it to the finals and win!
It's kinda a good thing Colton got eliminated because he probably wouldn't be where he is at now. It's sad but Colton is doing great and is one of the best Christian singers so good came out of it.
Most shocking eliminations for me were: Melinda Doolittle, Chris Daughtry, Pia Toscano, Latoya London and Tamyra Gray.. And in my opinion those I mentioned should have been the winners of their respective seasons.. But the shock of all shocks was Lee Dewyze winning American Idol.. LOL
Lee winning was a surprise. Crystal should've won. I would've put it on here, but that's the finale and doesn't really count as an elimination. I know Jessica's save isn't eliminating her either, but that was on an elimination night which is why I'm qualifying it as such.
Oh man I remember watching Jennifer and LaToya being sent home. You know I was on the Jasmine Trias train that time as a Filipino. Looking back, I can't believe who got sent home for Jasmine to stay (and Jon Stevens too!). Season 3 was DRAMA!!!
I was so mad when Alison and Chris got voted off right before the final 3 because they were my favorites to win in each of their seasons, and lost out to someone who didn't do top 3 justice
I kinda knew Kris was gonna win, Same with David Cook. They were both good-looking straight white boys who played the guitar. Talent isn’t what people vote upon it’s a popularity contest sadly. No one votes for a small Latino Mormon, a gay man, or a small Filipino girl no matter what your talent.
Arming the viewing public with unlimited votes was the most ridiculous concept for American Idol. When Taylor Hicks won it in 2005 all credibility of the voting process went down the shitter.
The Angie Miller one still gets to me. Not sure if anyone else put up such an incredible resume of performances during the season and still did not win. Her Zealyn era has been incredible
I completely agree about Angela Miller.....she was outstanding and should have won the whole thing. I still go back and watch her audition where she did her original song in Hollywood week all the time.
Lilly Scott's elimination...you know, the ninth season's final result show of the semi-finals, right before the finals started was the night American Idol died to me. After Pia's elimination, I never watched another episode. Four contestants went home that night -- Katelyn Epperly, Todrick Hall, Alex Lambert and Lilly Scott: Katelyn, hands down, should have won the season. Her cover of "The Scientist" was one of the greatest performances that's ever happened on the Idol stage. -- But, all four of them made up my top four for the entire season. The only four contestants I really, really cared about watching and all of them went home in one devastating night. I've never had reality television make me physically sick with the exception of that one night.
I agree that she should've won. I too loved her. But I'm not so sure it was one of the most shocking ones ever though. Even though she didn't win 3rd place is still pretty good.
+sweetiepea13 I was actually extremely shocked... I don't like to cry in front of people and it just so happens that I had company over when Haley got eliminated, but that couldn't stop me from crying... and I was so angry too, it put me in a bad mood for a while haha :P
I don't hate christians. I am a christian. One who is born again as a matter of fact. And I'm not a leftist. I'm right winged. Just because I don't like country music and preferred Angela instead of Kree doesn't mean I hate christians. I grew up on metal music and nondenominational christianity. You shouldn't insult someone without knowing anything about them first.
+Alessandro Hutapea even the look on stefano's face made him want to say WTF. i'm surprised the judges didn't bring her back if they were allowed to do that passed the top 24 eliminations. (they brought someone back to make a top 25 one year)
Allie Whitmarsh You can't bring someone back If they make it to voting rounds once. And It wouldn't be fair too. Jermaine didn't make it to voting rounds, so they brought him back.
You forgot some people. Carly Smithson in season 7 (2008) was VERY shocking (which you forgot to add) in addition to Michael Johns (which you added; Syesha and Jason should've left a long time ago (they sucked), and Carly and Michael should've been in the top 4 behind the two Davids that year). Tamyra Gray in season 1 (2002) was also VERY shocking (she should've been in the finale with Kelly Clarkson). You should've mentioned as well that it was shocking when Clay Aiken in season 2 (2003) lost to Reuben Studdard, And finally, you forgot to mention when Adam Lambert lost to Kris Allen (Allison Iraheta should've been the runner-up to Adam that season; Kris sucked).
Annie TigerChucky Siobhan's elimination was a shock to me as she has been really consistent every week and many fans said she would make it to top 3. She should have been in the top 3 with Crystal and Casey instead of Lee what's his name.
Absolutely agree with your top two. Both eliminations were completely shocking. Chris’s was worse though because he was clearly the best singer in that competition. Season three was more spread out, although the overall talent in season five was higher
Chris Daughtry’s fourth place elimination, and Adam Lambert’s second place elimination were by far and away the two most shocking eliminations in all of American Idol History.
Believe me guys, if I were to include finales Lee's win, and Adam and Jessica's losses would be in the top 5. While Taylor's win would be in the top 2!
+Solo Radia this video was made in 2013. olivia just got eliminated yesterday. I'm not surprised or sad really. her performance was irritating and obnoxious. as a performer she was just ok. but thats my opinion.
Francis Carolina Hernandez I mean Melinda was talented , but I don’t think she was as popular as Jordin & Blake were during her season. Jordin was a deserving winner though
Tamyra Gray was shocking. I think shock eliminations like Jessica’s and Pia’s were because they didn’t get any airtime during the auditions as much as the other contestants, and that’s when viewers latch on to their favorites the most.
Joshua Ledet getting 3rd place after all those standing ovations he got throughout the season was a crime. What was it, like 18??? I think he still holds the record for most standing ovations on the show. That dude was an insane vocalist and we got robbed from seeing potentially one of the most epic finales in the history of this show with him and Jessica Sanchez. Still hurts til this day….
I was kinda pissed Joshua didn't win too. Reminds me of EJay Day from season 1 who could sing CIRCLES around all the other guys...I guess his stage presence/performing ability wasn't up to par.
The season with Jessica Sanchez and the season with Pia Toscano was the most shocking to me. BTW Pia looks very "stare-at-able", meaning extremely easy on the eyes. Neat outfit too but the real reason Pia got eliminated in my opinion was because of Randy since he was the one who told her prior to that show she's been singing to many ballads, and to sing an uptempo song so she did, but the song choice was not her idea. I don't know if that song was a hit or not at one time, but it was from an era that most later generations can't relate to lyric-wise. Also the song was forgettable and unfamiliar to many people apparently. Her elimination proved that. Who in this generation sings about rag-dolls? So it was Randy's fault since in a way he sabotaged her and should've been the only person not surprised, owned up and apologized to Pia. :)
i dont think the alison one was a shock..alison was super good but those other 3 boys were more popular.. also seeing micheal johns is sad.. i was so surprised to hear he passed away
Idols Who Should've Won Their Season: Season 1: Tamyra Gray Season 2: Clay Aiken Season 3: LaToya London Season 5: Chris Daughtry Season 6: Melinda Doolittle Season 7: Michael Johns Or Syesha Mercado Season 8: Adam Lambert Season 9: Didn't Like That Season Season 10: Pia Toscano Season 11: Jessica Sanchez Stopped Watching After Season 11.
Maybe Tamyra was better at the beginning of the competition but top 8 onward Kelly consistently outsang her IMO. She definitely should have made top 3 over nikki though
Shows how fans cannot predict trends. The voters are the real wads here. I was too young to even have a phone at the time. Older generations and boomers don’t know squat and are not the majority. Vote back then could easily be rigged or bought.
Fantasia, Jennifer and Latoya should never have been a bottom 3 in a million years (of course the show may have set it up to look like Fantasia and Latoya were in the bottom 3 when they really weren't).
I was such a HUGE Constantine fan....I remember freaking out about his elimination. And then friggin Underwood rubs it in, and hugs Anthony Federov like she's about to take his virginity. Ugh. But I saw him in a touring show, and an episode of SVU so...... glad he's on to bigger and better things......heh.
I agree. I was shocked he was eliminated that night. I thought song wasn't the best choice but his performance was great. Plus, that season- they compared him to Bo and he clearly got his own style. I thought maybe Scott or Anthony would have been eliminated. However, there is a shocker ever season. Season 1- It was Tamyra Gray.. no one is safe.
I was not happy with how they did poor George with the 3 amazing black divas against the ordinary white people. No matter what side he picked as the "bottom 3" those people would not be happy with him.
4:54 even Hollie was shocked that Colton got voted off I think she thought she was going to be leaving but I’m glad she stayed as long as she did she was a true underdog and the judges were too hard on her and threw her under the bus constantly
I agree. My top three that season was Colton Phillip Hollie In that order. I wasn't crazy for Jessica. I didn't like her type of music. My opinion. The only song I liked was "I have nothing if I don't have you" from her. I also wouldn't have minded if Phillip won instead of Colton. I was a fan of Colton since season 10.
I guess those were shocking, but looking back now with the exception of Hudson and Daughtry, it's not like any of those people went on to do anything. I mean I busted out laughing when that Colton dude said "I'll remember what you taught me when I'm making my records." LMAO.....what?
Allison's elimination in S8 was unjust, but it wasn't at all surprising. The judges gave Danny Gokey praise all season so of course America loved him, meanwhile they were just lukewarm on Allison. The surprise is that she got as far as she did--but she should have gone further.
Idk, i think Haley Reinhart's elimination was pretty shocking. Granted she was in the bottom the earlier part of the top 12, she had the best performances by far of that season, and to lose to Scotty and.... whatever that other girls name was... stupid country music.
+Fisticuffs777 When I read people commenting about Idol contestants that "people love a growth trajectory" and "people hate it when the judges tell them who to vote for" I think "Two words: Haley Reinhart". If either argument was actually true - or at least consistently true -, she would have won the season.
The most shocking elimination for me and i am probably not alone in this was , Jennifer Hudson, but never the less she became a Super Star . The bottom three should never have been. These three ladies were the best singers in this competition. Also Chris was so much better than that catherine chick.
The most shocking for me was Aaron Kelly's elimination from season 9. I literally cried all night after he got voted off.. still my all time favorite idol contestant.
That season with Daughtry was the first complete season I watched and I picked him as my guy right from the start and when it got to the night that he was about to be eliminated, I couldn't believe it.

Also shows that fans don’t know what they want.
So is Colton. He made a good name for himself. He's a Christian music singer.
Jessica Sanchez should have never ever been in the bottom in the first place. Thank god for that save!
It's kinda a good thing Colton got eliminated because he probably wouldn't be where he is at now. It's sad but Colton is doing great and is one of the best Christian singers so good came out of it.
Mandisa too!
I feel like his performance of bad romance wasn’t that good as I feel that song isn’t exactly an appropriate song for idol
Losing can be a good thing on American Idol
Yes. You're right. I still wished he made the finals but him losing was so he could do what he loves and no one could tell him what not to do or sing.
jennifer hudson got the last laugh
How? She has a big voice but under noooo circumstances that she was is better then Fantasia Barrino the fuck
I know Jessica's save isn't eliminating her either, but that was on an elimination night which is why I'm qualifying it as such.
oh yeah I agree with u
+sweetiepea13 Lee is way better than Crystal don't be crazy
+nora stack um yeah but thats my opinion
not true
Oh man I remember watching Jennifer and LaToya being sent home. You know I was on the Jasmine Trias train that time as a Filipino. Looking back, I can't believe who got sent home for Jasmine to stay (and Jon Stevens too!). Season 3 was DRAMA!!!
Kinda fantasia were the dark horse at the beginning
Daughtry wouldn't have had the career he has had if he had won. that was the best move for him
I was so mad when Alison and Chris got voted off right before the final 3 because they were my favorites to win in each of their seasons, and lost out to someone who didn't do top 3 justice
Adam Lambert wasn't eliminated but still the biggest shock he didn't win
+Pluto Mars Biggest upset in American Idol for sure. I agree.
David cook was one of the better winners, what are you even talking about?
+Matt Cro To me he was just average, he was just a rock singer with a decent voice. There was nothing about him that particularly stood out to me.
I Agree
Ugh Angie could have won. Candice is great though
Angie should have beat Kree at least!
+MSteakGaming Agreed, but you know it was a sympathy vote
mixboy79 Candice & Kree got the sympathy vote the night Angie left. Still think Angie should’ve won
Amber vs. Angie should have happened
k fan I feel Amber Holcomb should hace won
Arming the viewing public with unlimited votes was the most ridiculous concept for American Idol. When Taylor Hicks won it in 2005 all credibility of the voting process went down the shitter.
TheTemest the final 2 should have been Yamin and Daughtry
Chris & pia are the MOST shocking IMO, I was just so mad when Chris left but look at him NOW.
but seriously the way Ryan told Chris he was leaving was so insensitive!
1:10-1:23 What the hell was the point of that, Seacrest?
TheCatlover192 such a jerk.
Ryan Seacrest is an idiot. Duuuuhhh "Are you surprised to be eliminated ?"
Rustina Ginger, blame the producers! They told him to say that!
That was a complete douchbag thing to even do imo.
Yeah that was a shitty thing to do - made several people look really bad.
The Angie Miller one still gets to me. Not sure if anyone else put up such an incredible resume of performances during the season and still did not win. Her Zealyn era has been incredible
Even Kree was surprised lol.
@@Chelaxim especially because Kree had been in the bottom before and Angie never had
I completely agree about Angela Miller.....she was outstanding and should have won the whole thing. I still go back and watch her audition where she did her original song in Hollywood week all the time.
MyLittleCody120 she couldnt compare to Candace. The End!!!!!
RIP michael johns, he left behind a great legacy
I was cheering for Allison to win season 8 she had originality and talent as she was a female rocker
I understand people get upset when someone they like is eliminated, but booing profusely must make the safe person feel like a worthless pos.
I was thinking the same
If people booed during Jennifer and LaToya being sent home, it was a deserved show of displeasure
I would not be surprised if the safe people are just as shocked as the audience sometimes.
Where's Haley Reinhart's elimination? That was the most shocking elimination ever for me.
Solo Radia Yesss
+Solo Radia I think Either James Durbin or Haley Reinhart should of won on American Idol Season 10 2011 Instead of Scotty McCreery
Pia's elimination was so fucked up.
+Alessandro Hutapea I always thought that the judges wasted that save on Casey. Pia's elimination still stings to this day.
+Lorena Torres i agree hundred percent... it was randys fault... he used the save without prior consultation to jlo and steven....
Yep, that's true.
Stefano's reaction was purely genuine.
RIP Michael Johns passed away in 2014
I miss him...that's so sad :(
Oh, really? Too bad...
So sad that he died 😥 if the save existed during his season they definitely would’ve used it on him
Loving J-Lo at 7.45 'You ain't going home, go sit down...' LOL :D
it has been indeed the end of the road for michael. RIP michael T.T
You also forgot that Malaya Watson (season 13) was shocking because of the judges save
Annie TigerChucky Siobhan's elimination was a shock to me as she has been really consistent every week and many fans said she would make it to top 3. She should have been in the top 3 with Crystal and Casey instead of Lee what's his name.
I wanted Ayesha to win season 7 and archuleta eliminated early.
Syesha did NOT suck she was so consistent
Syesha didnt suck my dear
Of course Chris Daughtry's elimination was the #1 most shocking. Did you see how for how long Katharine McPhee's mouth was dropped-open?
Absolutely agree with your top two. Both eliminations were completely shocking. Chris’s was worse though because he was clearly the best singer in that competition. Season three was more spread out, although the overall talent in season five was higher
Angie Miller truly shocked me! I did not see that coming. The same way I didn’t see Adam Lambert losing.
Domeju
Taylor sux
Olivia Rox!
+Solo Radia this video was made in 2013. olivia just got eliminated yesterday. I'm not surprised or sad really. her performance was irritating and obnoxious. as a performer she was just ok. but thats my opinion.
+Solo Radia :-)
No umm lets be honest uncondtionaly was a wreck trouble had no connection she should not he in here
RJ's Vlogs it was somg choice for her
Olivia Rox, Shelbie Z, Sarina Joi Crowe
Chris and Jennifer showed them all! Jennifer has gone on to do wonderful things , acting , singing Broadway- -mic drop....
If they had the save during Michael Johns’ season they would’ve definitely used the save on him . So devastating that he passed away😥
For sure I wish he was still here
angie miller looks like miley cyrus
don't insult Angie Miller like that!!! She used to resemble her sure but now that Miley-whore looks nothing like Angie
Chris Daughtry’s elimination has to be the most shocking. I had picked him to win and was just stunned to see him go.
Jennifer and Chris did very well without the title, as well as many others who didn't win.
where is melinda doolittle?
Biggest shock indeed, she should have won.
+semutmerah1987 She was incredible. Easily one of show's best singers
Dean Mirtle
yes, i absolutely agree with you, that's why i put her elimination as one of the most shocking elimination in history....
Pia’s elimination did NOT surprise me 1 bit. She had been having Bland weeks & people got bored. At least Stefano was trying.
Exactly! And then Phillip Phillips wins instead of Jessica? Come on!
Still watching this 2016. Can't get over to Angie Miller ugh!!!
12 years later, and Pia Toscano’s elimination is still the most infamous elimination in the history of reality TV imo…
Chin-Up Daughtry.... We all see now, just how that temporary setback elevated you to a whole different level.....
I think Chris Daugthry was one of the shockest one to be voted off. I remember watching the results show.
Moral of the story, the people who are sent home are the real stars and the people who win, you never hear most of them again.
where the hell is joshua ledet? he outsang all of these chumps
Hah! I forgot about him. 😂
Who is he? 😂
+arebut69 a beast
Truuu he and Phillip should have been top 2 that season
Rachel Mary you on drugs it should have been Colton winning and beating Phillips it’s just that he sang Christian songs and scared off voters
Lmao it was so harsh on Michael Johns ‘last year for idol gives back we didn’t eliminate anyone. This year, we are. Bye Michael.’
i dont think the alison one was a shock..alison was super good but those other 3 boys were more popular.. also seeing micheal johns is sad.. i was so surprised to hear he passed away
Candychaser 21 Indeed me also
Agree
Idols Who Should've Won Their Season:
Season 1: Tamyra Gray
Season 2: Clay Aiken
Season 3: LaToya London
Season 5: Chris Daughtry
Season 6: Melinda Doolittle
Season 7: Michael Johns Or Syesha Mercado
Season 8: Adam Lambert
Season 9: Didn't Like That Season
Season 10: Pia Toscano
Season 11: Jessica Sanchez
Stopped Watching After Season 11.
Season 11: Jessica Sanchez or Joshua Ledet!
Tamayra over kelly?! 😂😭😭😭
Maybe Tamyra was better at the beginning of the competition but top 8 onward Kelly consistently outsang her IMO. She definitely should have made top 3 over nikki though
Kelly and Ruben definitely deserved to win their season.
Chris Daughtry went to go have an amazing career. Daughtry is one of my favorite bands and definitely one of my favorite American Idol Contestants.
Shows how fans cannot predict trends. The voters are the real wads here. I was too young to even have a phone at the time. Older generations and boomers don’t know squat and are not the majority. Vote back then could easily be rigged or bought.
Wow what a memory. I remember to always watching this show every week.. haha
Leave Carrie alone!
I hated the way Michael's and Chris' eliminations were handled. Stupid producers probably told Ryan to say it the way he did.
I was not happy with how they did poor George with the 3 amazing black divas against the ordinary white people. No matter what side he picked as the "bottom 3" those people would not be happy with him.
I love when the judges saved Jessica Sanches, proud of you girl❤
Most shocking pia jessica and chris d.
Jessica was not eliminated.
Which season was the Candice and Kree video? And Lily? I don’t remember Lily, but I’m assuming it was season 8 from the looks of it
4:54 even Hollie was shocked that Colton got voted off I think she thought she was going to be leaving but I’m glad she stayed as long as she did she was a true underdog and the judges were too hard on her and threw her under the bus constantly
I agree. My top three that season was
Colton
Phillip
Hollie
In that order.
I cried when pia, angie and jessica eliminated ;((
How the heck do let pia get eliminated? That really made me not happy.
Because they’re dumb asses forgot to vote
Siobhan's elimination in season 9 was pretty shocking to me as well. You could tell she was totally blindsided by it.
She is now working with me at my job on Cape Cod
The old guy tried to get a hug at 14:14 😂
Thank god Adam Lambert never was eliminated.
I know! Adam Lambert would have started a riot
He was in the bottom two once.
Judges picked on Haley a lot... Especially J-Lo.
+Fisticuffs777 When I read people commenting about Idol contestants that "people love a growth trajectory" and "people hate it when the judges tell them who to vote for" I think "Two words: Haley Reinhart". If either argument was actually true - or at least consistently true -, she would have won the season.
Android Test I don't remember that💚
Those folks in the audience sounded close to rioting a couple times. LOL
The most shocking elimination for me and i am probably not alone in this was , Jennifer Hudson, but never the less she became a Super Star . The bottom three should never have been. These three ladies were the best singers in this competition. Also Chris was so much better than that catherine chick.
You are right about Chris. I have never seen a contestant that had so much stage presence as him. He and Jennifer got the last laugh though.
The most shocking for me was Aaron Kelly's elimination from season 9. I literally cried all night after he got voted off.. still my all time favorite idol contestant.
I infamously cried when David Archuleta lost to David Cook…I was 11.
That season with Daughtry was the first complete season I watched and I picked him as my guy right from the start and when it got to the night that he was about to be eliminated, I couldn't believe it.
I thought he and Elliott Yamin were the best from that season, but the fans LOVED Taylor Hicks.
