What’s so interesting about this movie, is that the villains are Union Army Soldiers. Their uniforms are blue and they braided the horses with US on them, so this must have taken place during the civil war. So, it’s interesting how they are still highly prejudiced and how the creators could turn them into antagonists during a time where we would normally think of them as protagonists.
Mosst ppl dont know most republicans (the north) back then were still hella racist and obviously the same with the democrats back then ( the south) But now a days before and after trump its mostly ass kissing racists( the democrats) And the secret passive aggressive racists ( the Republicans)
The Union uniform was standard blue before and after the American civil war until just before the Spanish American war. Branding the horse was just them saying “this is ours dont steal”! This most likely takes place during the expansion west post civil war since the Unit looks very small and had Spencer repeating rifles which where standard just post civil war!
Half right it was takes place after the civil war. They are the US Calvery. A unit that was made to fight indians and protect the frontier from outlaws . The fact that this horse beat the best Calvery unit outside of Prussia was impressive. Also don't know if it was accident but most of the US Calvery for the frontier were made up of former Confederate soldiers so their accents would be spot on

I love this movie so much Spirit is one of my favorite movies growing up i love how the other horses were enjoying and laughing at Spirit just throwing the guys around and kicking them off of him and then walking proud at what he did to them he’s honestly my favorite horse out of this movie and the Get Off Of My Back music was perfect when Spirit was throwing the guys around Spirit wasn’t playing around
When the second rider got bucked off Spirit and called him a lousy heap of horse flesh he knew that he was making a mistake therefore being chased by Spirit out of the corral
I like this scene because Spirit keeps attacking Murphy while Murphy is trying so hard working and cleaning Spirit. And I like to see Angry Spirit going crazy trying to get the Union Army Soldiers to get off his back.
@MrGksarathy Murphy is a farrier, the guy who puts horse shoes on horses and cares for their hooves in general. He was cleaning out Spirit's hooves in preparation for horse shoes, and by the time he got to the brand I think he realized Spirits attacks were personal and was a bit vindictive. Other than the brand, nothing he was doing would have hurt Spirit.
This movie was my childhood, and seeing Spirit again after all this time hasn't taken any of the beauty that it had away from it. Now, maybe I'm among the minority, but I find Spirit's military look to be very handsome on him. His short mane was very good looking for him. Now, if you look at it carefully, and compare it to the other horses in the fort, Spirit still has a bit of a wild and unkept nature to his mane, even when it was cut. It looks like a teenager getting their first short hair cut, and looks like there is a wild and incredible nature to his demeanor. It's absolutely amazing how they make it feel so unique to him.
Not only does this movie give me nostalgia, but I used to ride horses competitively. She had a mean attitude though and if she didn’t want to work that day, she was exactly like this. She learned to respect me with patience and knowing she wasn’t trying to be mean, but just messing with us
I know how late I am but I’m gonna write an essay Starting at 2:16 you can see how angry and annoyed spirit seems, based on how heavy and or tight the girth and saddle are which he was not prepared or trained for, at 2:19 you can see they removed the rope and began to pull on spirits ears which cause him to toss his head and open his mouth in discomfort at 2:20 he doesn’t seem confused or anything as he lunges forward to bite as the bridle was pulled over his ears and the hands get closer to his mouth. At 2:21 when the other guys hand reaches for his mouth and puts his fingers in between his teeth, you can see how sport begins to become shocked and in a lot of discomfort as his mouth is forced open by the uncomfortable pressure, you see how he attempts to pull away from the bit and quickly closes his mouth in an attempt to avoid it but eventually his mouth is forced open as the bit is shoved into his mouth at 2:23. You can see how much discomfort he is in based on how he keeps his mouth open and constantly chews. At 2:29 you can see the realization settle into spirit that he is gonna have to fight more. At 3:31 we see how he prances back to the thing and tosses his head with a cocky expression, the next guy holds the reins tight and up high, we see discomfort cross his face but still that cocky look as he bucks him off with barely one buck. We see how he contuines to do this for maybe minutes or even hours before finally at 3:59 he attempts to scare off the colonel who seems unimpressed and stands his ground with a deep stare, having a seeming staring contest to assert dominance before finally speaking. That concludes my essay
It's the mark of a poor horseman to try and get him shod and saddle-broke so fast, hard-case or not. If I was going to have a crack at him, first thing I'd do is just get him used to being around people, most of that is just hanging around and talking to him as you feed and water him, then you work up to halter training and after that just wearing a saddle before ever trying to get on. Likewise with getting him shod and his mane clipped, would have to work up to it slowly with a lot of patience. Spirit would probably just shoot me dirty looks the whole time, probably gonna get a few knocks here and there, but I'd just have to smile and say, "Son, you might be one stubborn cuss, but so am I."
Actually he really is just playing with them. He knows he cannot escape the main walls, but he is a stallion. Regulation fence height for owning a stallion is 7 feet tall, because they can jump anything much sorter. I do not think mares can, and I believe geldings are just to docile to try.
1. Does the Colonel look like an older version of Tarzan but without the dreadlocks? 2. James Cromwell used what would later be his Callaghan steven from Big Hero 6 for the Colonel. 3. It’s funny how Spirit likened the Colonel to a rattlesnake as I do call Callaghan from Big Hero 6 a viper. That connection makes sense as Callaghan and the Colonel were both voiced by James Cromwell and rattle-nadders and echises are in the family Viperidae. By steven, I mean a “voice” and it came from the Old English word for it. By rattle-nadder, I mean a “rattlesnake.” By nadder, I mean a “snake” and it is the root of the word adder and came from the Old English word naedder, which was the usual word for a nadder. Yea, the word snake also came from Old English. By echis, I mean a “viper” and it is like the saw-scales echis’ genus Echis and it came from the Greek word ekhis, which means an echis and is the root of the name Echidna, which means she-echis and was the name of the mother of kaijus in Greek myth. By kaijus, I mean “monsters” and kaiju literally means strange creature in Japanese.
What's funny is getting his mane cut definitely wouldn't have hurt at all, horses don't have nerve endings in their manes. Spirit was giving him a hard time just for the fun of it.
Dude I can’t even stop thinking about how technically the natives are kinda the bad guys as well because they also prevented Murphy from leaving to his herd. 💀

Funnily enough, this contains the one moment where he cooperated with the cowboys, taking his place to accept a rider, and the only incentive he needed was the chance to throw them right off.
