    Maybe they want to pay less to self taught seeing as they have to retrain University graduates anyway. The stuff they learn at University is grossly outdated and insignificant.

    • @davidtech024
      @davidtech024  4 дні тому +1

      You bring up an interesting perspective! It’s true that tech is constantly evolving, and sometimes university curriculums can lag behind the industry’s pace. However, both self-taught developers and university graduates bring unique strengths to the table-self-taught devs often have hands-on experience and resourcefulness, while university grads might have a strong theoretical foundation. In the end, the learning journey never stops, and staying adaptable is what really matters in this field!

      Studying anything other than health sciences , art a
      Or computer science is useless.
      It's highly unlikely that you'd become a top 1% in your industry if you do anything else.
      Accounting is probably the worst thing that anything could choose to study.

    I just have 1 question, what are the skills that we lack as CS students? Especially since at some varsities like UJ you're also taught to be a software engineer by building a full scale web and mobile app. I keep hearing this be thrown around but so many of my classmates and I are struggling to get into workforce despite all this knowledge and skills we've picked up

    • @davidtech024
      @davidtech024  12 днів тому +4

      "That’s such an important question-thanks for asking! 🎓 Education will still be highly valued, and Computer Science degrees will remain incredibly relevant-especially one from UJ, which is known for its strong tech programs. 🎓 UJ’s emphasis on building full-scale web and mobile applications is a great foundation for entering the workforce.
      That said, the current challenges many graduates face in finding jobs often go beyond technical knowledge. Here are a few key factors to consider:
      1⃣ Bridging the Skills Gap:
      While universities provide a solid theoretical foundation, many companies prioritise applied skills like DevOps, cloud computing, data science, and cybersecurity. Expanding into certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, or CompTIA)
      You also need to do some real-world projects to complement your Portfolio.
      UJ’s graduates are among the best positioned to succeed in the South African tech industry. You’ve got the foundation-now it’s about tailoring your skills and strategies to the job market."

      Co-ask there by Cyber Security>>>> [I on the other hand am taking the (free) 'Introduction to Cyber Security' course on CISCO. Honestly, it's been amazing! You'll also find quizzes, which are extremely helpful at bringing some of the concepts to life. Although there's a lot of content to cover & some tech jargon you're going to have to acquaint yourself with, I find it extremely valuable since I don't have any I.T. experience/background. I know it says that you'll take 6 hours to complete it on the website, unfortunately that hasn't been the case for me. I spent about 3/4 hours a day really engaging with the content. Its self-paced, so there's absolutely no need to rush. It's been about 6 days now and I'm done with the content, I'll be writing my exam tomorrow. Wish me luck!]

    How do you think this will impact the quality assurance field? Do you think some companies will drop degree requirements for software testers as well?

    • @davidtech024

      This is just my view of it: In the field of data analytics, practical skills, certifications, and portfolio projects often hold more weight than a formal degree. @DavidTech whats your take on Low code development such as PowerPlatform?

    • @davidtech024
      @davidtech024  4 дні тому

      "Great question! I didn't know about PowerPlatform and had to do a bit of research and I came to this conclusion and the guys who work extensively on this can chip in:
      Low-code platforms like PowerPlatform are definitely making waves in the tech industry. They allow developers (and even non-developers) to create applications quickly without needing to write extensive code. This can be a game-changer for businesses looking to streamline processes or rapidly prototype ideas.
      For developers, it’s a great opportunity to expand your skill set and work alongside business teams to create solutions. However, while low-code platforms can accelerate development, they may not replace the need for traditional coding in more complex applications. It’s all about knowing when and where to leverage these tools effectively. Thanks for asking!"

  • @DavidRok97
