The trains are a temporary replacement. A few years back, there was a debacle where the NS bought Italian trains (called the 'Fyra'), just because they where the cheapest and fastest. After a few months of misery, delays, broken material, etc. the NS decided to send the trains back to Italy. Because the NS was obligated to run the service, they got some old Bombardier-locs, put them in front of refurbished trains that where on their way to the museum, and pretended they are real trains. If all is well, from 2021 forwards, there will be new, dedicated high speed trains running between Amsterdam, Schiphol, Rotterdam, Breda and Brussels.
Thanks for the video. We're traveling to Amsterdam in March and are going to use the train from the airport and to the airport. Looks pretty easy to use.
Another option is to just use your OV-chipkaart, BUT you need €20 on it. If you think you'll be going back before it expires this is OK, and may be a bit cheaper. The ticket you get is in fact a (disposable) OV-chipkaart. The Rotterdam direct *does* have an extra fee but only between Schiphol and Rotterdam. As I plan to stay in Rotterdam next time I will have to pay it (to go to Amsterdam, I will not be flying at all on this occasion).
You always have to check in and out at any type of public transport. If you enter a tram you check in, if you leave the tram you check out, et cetera. But be aware that at some stations there are no gates, only poles. But if you have a one-way ticket it doesn't really matter.
To be honest, I was in a hurry to find a seat, so I was unable to check out 1st class. But if I feel more generous in the future, I will definitely spend a few more Euros to buy a 1st class ticket, not that I need it for such a short journey!
@@kylohk they are 3 seat per row instead of 4 making the seats themselves wider. There are also power sockets and you have more legroom. Because it's more expensive first class tends to be less busy, which can also be seen as extra comfort. It's mostly used by business travelers because their company pays for it.

Tbh most people are going to Schiphol
Hey i want to ask dude, so if we arrive on schiphol airport from Amsterdam centraal, we didn’t need to checkout for our ticket?
Yes, you don't need to check out because there are no exit gates.
there is a post at the top of the escalator to check out ( and in ) and yes you are supposed to check out. have a great time and be safe :-)

Al minuto 08:20 si sente un italiano bestemmiare 🤦
Quando sento bestemmiare all'estero, mi sento a casa 🤣
How much luggage are you allowed to take on the train
There is no official luggage allowance. However, it may be difficult to find space to hold your luggage if it is too big to fit in the overhead racks.
What is the difference between 1st and 2nd class seats beside the color of the chairs?

@@kylohk From other videos, I have seen that the difference between the both is that 1st class haves fold-down tables.
@@kylohk Thanks
That's definitely not worth the premium for First Class!
