I turned a simple work axe to a Viking war ax. In addition to transforming the headform, I did a lot of engraving work on it. It has some traditional Viking symbols (for example vegvisir) on the head, but I carved Celtic and modern graphic elements to the axe head.
I also carved the handle of the axe with traditional Viking and Celtic patterns.
This video has my own song. Hope you enjoyed the video, please subscribe.
I made some Viking axes for sale, you can see them here:

I really like this, how can I purchase this particular axe? I like the detail in the handle.
This axe is amazing, I can’t even imagine how actual Vikings made things like this without the tools you used
Thank you! Vikings didn't make axes like this, I'm just use Viking motifs for carving.
@@CarverMind they said “things like this” not axes
Mix of carbon and raw iron ingot
A lot of work, also these are a lot more elegant than the actual war axes, these were the ones that were sent to see on the grave with a warrior.
Great axe!
so far, it's the best ax I've seen made on UA-cam
💪EXCELLENT CRAFTMANSHIP💪
Thank you!
Beautiful work😊👍
Great job. I liked that you didn’t use etching to get patterns on the head but “carved” everything with one power tool. That gives it something more that etched axes don’t have. I’m also trying to make myself one but I haven’t decided on handle shape yet. I’ll let you know once it’s done !✋
Thank you!
Very impressive. Good job. The piece looks great!
Beautiful craftsmanship!
From ordinary to extraordinary, sublime, excellent, and a touch of Nordic ancient.
Amazing work Adrian!
ok, that is completely BA! can't even imagine the time that went into that... Just. Awesome.
That was amazing to watch. So inspired!
Best axe 🪓 I ever seen. Amazing skill and gifted.
Very impressive work, thank you for sharing!
It looks like something straight out of some videogames, awesome work!
Amazing work again! 🤗👏❤
Beautiful axe
Hihetetlenül precíz, aprólékos munka. Ennek megfelelően lenyűgöző a végeredmény.
Red Eric would be envious... :)
came for the video... stayed for the music.
..... incredibly cool. I love it! please more ....
Thank you!
I love it, its so beautiful. I just began doing this so im still noob, but you are awesome. You're a real inspiration! Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much!
I love it man I put yours in the top 10 I have seen!!!...
This looks absolutly amazing!!! I finelly got myself and old axe, that by chance, looks almost exactly the same as yours before you renovated it. I want to renovate mine to look similar to yours, but unfortunately I don't have experience nor the tools. I'll start trying and see how it goes
.
beautiful respect your patience sir
You made a sweet looking ax.
Absolutely beautiful buddy one of the nicest I've seen in awhile. I make Viking weapons also. Acid etching is faster but the grinding out like this always looks more authentic. I like to take out the temper then grind, then re temper. Any viking would be proud to have your work. Nicely done again 🦅
Thank you very much!
Very nice work. This is an artist and not a butcher knife. Thank you
Very nice great job
Pretty dude pretty.
Clicked for the engraving
Thanks, like a tattoo
you deserve more subscribers! I love your amazing work!
Thank you!
yes yes mega great job man
Very nice ♥
great! respect!!!
Wonderful :)
Beautiful 👌👌👌
good job 👍
Amazing
Simply badass man!!! Just did my first attempt with a Harbor freight fire hatchet. $20. Not finished but have head shaped and fire, water, earth and air design on handle. Super fun stuff. Beautiful job man!
Thank you! I wish you lot of fun to your hatchet!
Nice!
I didn't see the hand made metal but I did see engraving by hand which made a pretty sweet axe
Wow, now that’s a work of art... you have an awesome talent carving with a Drexel, every time I try the thing just goes where ever the heck it wants to go....lol Abe my Drexel is possessed? Lol
Thank you!
This artist has a great eye and patience that anyone doing projects should hope to achieve. Really nice job.
The rough lines give it so much character . Laser engraving would have ruined it . Well done !
És még a zenét is Ő írta, és készítette.... Szép munka!
Köszi! :)
I saw a video on Facebook, something beautiful, styling, processing and precision of execution, an ax at the master level, in the video on Facebook there was such metal music anyone knows? of course the subscription flew;)👍🤘
Thank you!😊
The best one

Beautiful piece it's really amazing you did a greate job! I'm loving it I gonna make one I'm just wondering what product you use on the wood to get it so real
Thank You!
Damn that's awesome I had no idea, I assumed that the blade was some how forged like that I'm impressed how much for one of these?
Beautiful ax man. Was wondering how you got that design on the paper like that? Also what kind of paper did you use? I see it stuck on the ax head when you placed it on the there. And was wondering what the black stuff is you used to coat it? Lol sorry for all the questions. I'm new at this and will be attempting my first ax and was just looking for tips.
Thank you. I made the design with Vegvisir and other viking symbols. Just printed it a normal paper and fixed it with simple school glue. The black material is a matte black paint, nothing special.
I hope it help and you make a great Viking axe.
Hi brilliant work, love the finished product just subscribed 👍, what would you recommend putting on the finished steel to protect it?
Thank you! I like to use metal browner, for example the Ballistol browner. Easy to use, and get great surface.
Heyyy I love this piece of work. I wanna do that for my axe handle too, but idk where to start! Any help with tools or tips i’d need? Thanks!
Thank you!
I mainly use my Dremel 4000 for carving. But you can do it with a chisel or a good Flexcut knife.
What is the stuff you used to get the axe head black where you carved? Awesome work!!!
Thank you! Dremel Tungsram bit.
Did you made sure not to ruin the temper on the edge?
Also love it to bits it beatiful!
Thank you! It was barely warm, it could be touch by hand.
Thank you for watching my video! I'll be making a Viking box for a Viking jewelry soon. Please subscibe to my channel if you are interested.
Do you make axes like this for sale??
Not yet, but you can subscribe to my miling list, and you will get a message when them will available:

Nicely done and sweet final piece!
Just wondering where did you got the work
Thank You!
Inspired sir wonderful work.... Now I wantto attempt. do you have a link to the bits you used?
Thank you! Search this: "dremel volfram karbid" and you will find bits for metal.
Just bought a Grimfrost Skeggoks..was looking for something to do to it..This is totally badass..Just subbed to your channel..do you do this on the side?
Thank you!
Beautiful show of skill.
Two questions: What type of paper is that at 2:14 and what did you use to secure it, normal paper and normal liquid glue?
Thank you! It's a normal paper and simple school glue.
Hi Adrian!
What is the two chemicals what you use for the handle at 5:54 and 6:01?
I would like to know the exact type, because the handle is very nice. :)
Thank you!
Thank you!
Köszönöm! :)
Az első fapác, tölgyfa színben, majd visszacsiszolva. A második egyszerű favédő olaj, amilyet barkácsboltokban lehet kapni.
@Carver Mind. Master i was inspired by your art. I made a viking axe also from a ordinary axe on hardware. 2 question pls.
1.what is that bkack liquid that you use to color the metal art?
2.what type of varnish u use on the first coating 5:59 so beutiful color i never seen so beautiful brown color like that.
Thank u so much master carver i hope u answer my question.
Thank you very much, glad to have inspired you!
I used matt enamel paint on the metal. But it would also be nice to use dark oil. Maybe acid etch the engraved parts and then the rust will give out the pattern.
For the wood I used a simple wood preservative oil.
This is amazing. Can I ask something as I'm looking to do something similar. Does the grinding ruin the heat treatment? Do you have to harden it again?
Thank you! Don't need harden again, doesn't ruin the heat treatment.
@@CarverMind amazing thank you 😊
Where did you get the pattern template? I'm thinking of doing something similar but I lack the artistic knack to make those designs
Sorry but I can't. But you can find similar motifs at Google. Search vegvisir, celtic knot or viking symbols.
I would buy this fr
You can buy my other axes at carvermind.com/shop/
@Carver Mind My brother and I just made an axe. What did you use for the black finish? Just black paint?
Hi. You can use simple matt metal paint, but the metal browner is better.
What tools are you using? Where can I know their name and buy them?
What did you use to paint the black onto the metal?
Simple metal paint. But browner is better.
Hey can you tell me what burrs for carving axe head did you use? And what kind of rope is that?
It's a Dremel tungsten carbide bírt and natural help twine.
Love this! Subbed FO SHO!
Cheers
Thank you!
What is the blacking solution you use on the metal?
It's a simple metal paint.
What do you use to seal the axe head after?
I just used simple paint, but I recommend the metal browner.
Amazing work! I‘m trying to do one myself but I find it super hard cutting the Steel because it‘s extremely hard. Do you have any tips? Just Patience?
Yes, a lot of patience and a good glove that metal dust doesn’t go through. It is important to use a good bit, I recommend the Dremel tungsten carbide bit.
@@CarverMind Thanks! Are the gloves important just for hygienic reasons or anything else?
Thanks I‘ll look into it :)
@@timschaeffer6353 Very tiny pieces of metal come off the axe and go easily under the skin.
Can you explain what you do and use in more detail. From what I gather you prime it then trace it then salt/water etch. Then use polish and then used acid?? Not sure what else u use chemical wise I seen a small bottle. I’d like to try this if I can get a little more insight please
In this video, I don’t use the metal etching technique, here I engrave the pattern by hand into the axe head.
You need to set up an online store if you don't have one already!
What dermal bit are you using?
Tungsten carbide bit.
where can i buy this EXACT axe? i really like it
You can't buy exactly this axe because I don't have it anymore. But you can find similar ones at carvermind.com
Wich engraver did u use?
Awesome piece btw !
Thank you! It's a Dremel 4000 with tungsten carbide head.
Carver Mind thx ill send u pictures when Im done :)
Hi! Can I ask you where to buy the diamond heads for the dremmel? I'm planning on doing something like this, but I need good ones. Thank you.
Hi. You can find it in many places (for example Amazon), but not looking for a diamond head. Looking a tungsten carbide head.
@@CarverMind www.dremel.com/en_US/products/-/show-product/accessories/9903-tungsten-carbide-cutter can this ones work? thank you!
What do you use to paint the axe?
Simple matte metal paint. But metal browner is better, use that if you can.
What kind of wood was the handle made from?
Unfortunately, I don't know, I just found a board in the garage.
Hello, what is the name of the thing that turns the handle of the ax that color? How did the white ax turn brown? Thanks
Hi. Wood oil.
@@CarverMind Thanks but which wood oil
@@tedykonusmalar4124 Sadolin Teak 3 Hardwood Oil
@@CarverMind very thanks
How many hours roughly to finish? And how many rotary bits if you don't mind sharing.
It is completed in about 40-45 working hours. I only used one bit.
@@CarverMind awesome great work bro
After engraving the axe head what did u paint over the design?
Simple matte black paint. But sometimes I made it with metal browner liquid.
@@CarverMind well thank you for responding. That rarely happens lol and excellent. Your awesome
I didn't see any wedge in the shaft, how did u secure the head?
Ez csak dísznek készült, a használható baltáim fa és fém ékkel készülnek.
@@CarverMind
It makes sense, in this case this axe is a nice piece of art 👍
@@laciihasz4734 Thank you!
Totally alsome!!!
Thank you!
thanks for youtube algoritma and i can find this is video
Hi mate where did you get the template from / how did you make it ?
Hi. I made it. You can find similar images, just search vegvisir or celtic knot at Google.
Cheers for the info 👍
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
That head mustve lost its temper right? did you redo the heat treating?
No, I'm just engraved the head, so it's not lost temper.
@@CarverMind You also cut part of the beard off
@@onZampie Oh, yes. They were short, quick cuts, did not heat the metal, and could be touched by hand.
@@CarverMind Ok thanks
Where would one get a stencil for a project like this?
You can find same motifs if you search vegvisir, celtic knot or viking symbol.
Thank you.
Where can I find same picture?
Search vegvisir or other viking symbol.

Do you sell your work?
This ax is gone, I gave it to charity. But I'm about to make a similar axes for sale soon. Follow me on Facebook and you'll see when it's available:
facebook.com/carvermind
It's a very pretty looking wall hanger, but couldn't be used as an axe ever again after this. The handle looks to be basswood, which is too soft for use, and isn't wedged. I also watched the bottom of the bit change color to gold and then blue as you cut it, meaning the heat treat is ruined. It looked to be a cheap, new Rheinland pattern, so no big loss, but just don't go trying to swing that into anything, or you'll be picking splinters of the broken handle out of your hand.
Does anybody know the dimensions of the wood he used I would like to make you for myself
You can find sizes and dimensions of my axes at carvermind.com
rough but nice i would have used ferric chloride to etch in all the pattern and save yourself alot of time and get a neater job out of it !
Amp?
