Did you know that it was very nearly disqualified from the singles chart for being in breach of the rules regarding what formats constituted a single? How things can pivot of a stroke of good or bad fortune.
I'm getting the impression the songs called Jack your Body lol, he says it enough! Still it's a darn fine dance hit from my wee kiddie yoof that I'd completely forgotten until today thanks to a comment on the Guardian website. Ps the 1920s and 30s clips go well as you can actually Charleston well to this!
Ahh! First listened to this in the summer of 1986. A cousin of mine in Trinidad sent a tape for me with this on it. I've loved it ever since. 👍🏾 The one at ua-cam.com/video/mQcg-dRg5h4/v-deo.html has the sound going out halfway through! Funny thing is - my late dad used to ask my why I listened to such strange music, which I could understand with his musical tastes at the time; but now my daughter asks me the same thing! 😹
Ok USA started House music in the UK with this. Late 86 early 87. We had great groups in 87-89. Beatmasters, Coldcut, D Mob, S'express, Bomb The Bass, Marrs Pump Up The Volume. America you were soon nowhere!
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
There is just something about this, nothing else can touch it.

This is Chicago house music.

2024 baby……… and I still con back ❤
I dread the day when this song will be closer in years to the movie snippets in the clip than to the actual year I'll listen to it in.

UK Singles Chart #1 - 2 wks (24 Jan 1987) | the Best Music Video!
Such a fantastic track.

@@rjjcms1Rather, it is a violation of copyright. Footage from feature films and Disney was used. You have to ask permission everywhere.
An innovator of a track that spawned hundreds of clones. Such a seminal tune - it’s peerless. Bravo.
Best track everrrrrrrrrrrrr !

Jacking. They were all at it.
A fine song in its way though not, as is sometimes claimed, the most significant since "Rock Around The Clock".
And still Crazy Legs says he invented most BBoy moves 🫢
Jackin’
Can anyone please tell me the movies these clips originally came from?
