- I needed a shelf and didn't want to spend much. So with only one 1x8x6 board I went overboard. It's a simple two part design that utilizes a French Cleat to hide how it's mounted to the wall. Along the way we play, learn, and experiment to personalize to work on design and woodworking skills. Top to bottom filled with tips and tricks.

Thanks Shawn for this woodworking video!
I really like the way you blended the french cleat into the design while hiding it perfectly
Watching that line disappear was super satisfying too!
That is a nice shelf and some really cool ideas there.
Enjoyed the design/layout discussion the most. Applying it and seeing it come together is even better. Form and function balance. Made me think about Shaker furniture and how it still has a strong design and form even if it said to have very little ornamentation.
Really appreciate all of the design tips and your creative process. Thank you for sharing.
That wee shim in the housing/dado is brilliant. Simple idea which works a treat. Thanks very much.
Good to see a new woodworking video.
Yes, very enjoyable. as always, picked up a few tips, tricks and pointers.
I am always amazed at how well a well maintained and quality set of chisels work. I really need to bit the bullet, and upgrade from my el cheapo DeWalt ones and get some good sharpening stones
Beautiful and educational. Thank you!
I really enjoyed this video. Nice project!
Such a simple project, but a lot to interesting techniques. Thank you
Thanks for this video. Even simple things can be fun and attractive as well as functional. Like you said, we are woodworkers so why not have nice wood shelf even if it does take longer than simply installing a wire shelf. I like the design.
Liked the chisel trick
Very nice shelf, I like the thirds rule it makes for good proportions. Sometimes I find using fifths works also.
Thanks good video
Very nice. Really enjoyed this video yet again. Cheers.
Loving seeing you working on wood projects. The trailer build is really cool though (I use to built trailers for a living).
Always FUN to ser Your videos!
A great little project with lots of helpful hints & tips. Very enjoyable video as always. Keep up the good work.
Likeeeeee from Brazil 👍 🇧🇷
Fantastic video as always! Really glad to see you putting out another woodworking educational video. Even though I’m not a metalworker, or interested in becoming one, all your videos have a great educational aspect in them. Keep it up 👍
love this type of thing
Very Nice / you gave me sum good idea's - tips - on shelf's i'v been putting off for a long time / thanks for the Video 👍
Beautiful
You had me all the way up to putting the plastic bin and light on that beautiful wood shelf. Now if there was a nicely carved Christmas ornament or something inside the green bin, I could see the reason for the green bin, or other green in the decor of the office. But it just blocked too much of the shelf's beauty, for me. Still, very nice shelf, for a relatively simple design. Ive always liked "Shaker-ish" designed peices. Great job, and great video.
I enjoyed the video. Great content, as always.
Hey I seen something the other day, reguarding your straight chisel line. When doing a through hole with a chisel, make a relieve chisel cut just in front of the line of your Final Cut to give relief so the bevel on the chisel doesn’t put back pressure on your chisel causing it fail to make a straight cut, because during cutting the natural bevel of the blade pushed out the cut wood unless it’s under pressure then it back as it drives down…even a little ruins your straight line like what happens…common mistake in dovetails from my understanding. I’m by no means a master woodworker I just happen to watch a good dovetail vid yesterday lol! Hope this helped because I’m sure your vid’s helps many like myself! I think the step when you stopped the V cut and waited to the large chisel is where it happened. Sorry I went back after typing the comment! Thanks!!! Love this shelf!
Have you been watching my other videos?
I think this is my first…did I miss something lol. But I did sub and plan too watch more.
What did I miss, I’m curious now?
Thank you. I enjoyed watching this video. Giving us the creative process and then the application to the wood was thought provoking. I am interested in the router plane. Brand, model? Seems like it may be a future purchase. Again, Thank you
Love these longer videos. I know youtubers are scared of long videos but I could watch people cut on the table saw all day.
Studio!!
What the heck are you up too? Green box with a light? Very cool shelf. Love the French cleat that disappears. Well done. Curious use of poplar vs SYP. Different. I like it. Thanks for sharing
Great little shelf! $30 board, $300 in skill, time, and talent. 😅
cool
What optical tricks will you do with that green screen?
👋👌👍HELLO
spokeshave instead of knife might be bit more fun and bit safer ;)
Learning opportunities….
Thank you, nice project to do to practice some joinery. Btw, how do you like the Rikon bandsaw.
It’s the best 10” I’ve used. Not perfect but serves my needs by bench. There’s a 17” in shop too.
@@wortheffort Thank you for the advice.
Can't find a link to those sizer pieces you mentioned
I forgot. Will get them there tomorrow.
Would have nice to see how you made those curves, this is not complete.
Expensive shelf components?? Take a look at WW tools!
How’d you know I’m starting to look for display options, every time I get an idea you’re just getting my idea out for a video
Get outta my brain lol
30 bucks for an un-poplar board!
nice and clean, good job as always 👍
