If you're a Christian and member of a church and you're NOT tithing, YOU ARE MISSING A BLESSING!!!
I wish I could say I've been tithing all my life. I didn't start until I was in my 40's. If I had been taught properly, I would have started as a child.
People need to focus on the second half of this verse. God will INDEED "open you the windows of heaven". I've gotten so much since I started tithing, that I am trying to give more away. The more I give to the church, the more I give away to other charities. It may not make any sense, but God is true to his word.
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

I tithe 10% of my income before taxes. How else are the lights gonna stay on, the building not be in shambles etc. How else would we have what we need I continue His work? Also when we give, we open the doors of blessings to us for being obedient and helping others. We help a lot of families with bills and food. One time I was on the receiving end because of job loss and going through a hardship. What goes around comes around.

That rather makes tithing the dues you pay for an exclusive club. Some makes it to charity of course, but you could eliminate the middle man and give direct. Alternatively:
"Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

The tithe isn't supposed to pay the pastor but to feed the poor and help those in need.
You can give it to the church and they will give it to the poor or you do it yourself.
Again, the church can't use it for themselves. The church is uphold through donations that are separate from the tithe. Donations that are noted as tithe can't be used for the pastor.
So no you can't buy a car on the tithe.
Instead becoming a pastor you should rather figure out where Dave Ramsey enjoys to eat and become a waiter and buy your car from the tip. That's more likely to happen then becoming rich on tithe.

Each man should give as he has decided in his heart to give not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver- 2 Cor. 9:7.
That is our command today for giving. The (tenth of increase) was given in Deuteronomy with the old law of Moses, the same law that demanded animal sacrifices. This law is not binding for us today (Romans 7:6, Hebrews 8:13).
There is nothing inherently wrong with “tithing” 10%, but you certainly do not have to as a Christian. Give generously, and I would say give very generously because the Lord has given so much to you, but also give cheerfully (not because you have to).

So this is what I'm trying to reconcile: I own a house and I rent out some rooms while I live in one of them. So if I look at it like a business, that I own, the business is increasing in value because of the mortgage principle that I get and any profit, but everything else (interest, utilities, property tax, HOA, etc.) Would be a business expense that is never causing any increase to the company that could be paid to me as the shareholder. So, do I only pay tithing on the principle and the profit? That is how I would look at any business that I might own - I assign some portion of the profit as a salary for myself and then pay tithing on that, but it seems odd because I would normally consider property tax or whatever housing expenses as just normal expenses and a normal part of my budget after paying tithing on the whole increase. Legitimately see it both ways.

The Bible says tithe on "Increase". $250,000 wasn't an increase. The increase was the profit between what she paid ($215,000) vs the sale price ($250,000 minus the expenses that went to closing costs and expenses...that's her actual "Increase". So roughly $31,000 as she noted. So $3,100 would be her tithe. Remember it's different than income, this is profit off of something she invested in.

No one "tithes" today per the biblical tithe. Tithing was part of Mosaic Law, handed down by God through Moses only for Jewish people. And they were to pay tithes of fruit, vegetables and livestock specifically to the tribe of Levi because ran the Temple and had no other form of income. Tithing in the Bible had nothing to do with money. The Apostle Paul clearly laid out in 2nd Corinthians chapter 9 how believers are supposed to give today. Learn your Bible and don't let a preacher ever guilt you into thinking you owe him 10% of your money. God may be leading you to give more or less depending on how He enables you and what He puts in your heart.

If a preacher is "guilting" anyone of giving them money they need to stop preaching. We don't "pay" tithe to the preacher we give to God as He has clearly stated in His Word. However it is also taught that a minister is worthy of his labor. If He works the altar he should be able to eat off of the alter. Paul teaches that very clearly as well.

@@sonialatham6467 there's no shortage of preachers who falsely teach the doctrine of tithing and bank on the high probability that most Christians don't really read their Bible all that much. Moses did not teach that tithing meant paying 10% of your monetary income to the church in Deuteronomy chapter 14, Numbers chapter 18 or Leviticus chapter 27 through the end of the book. In fact, in Leviticus, Moses stated that if you opted to pay cash instead of the titheable commodity, you had to pay 20% more. You can read it for yourself in Leviticus chapter 27 through the end of the book. Malachi did not blast the lay people in Malachi chapter 3 for robbing God. It was the corrupt priests who were stealing the tithes that the lay people had paid and using it for personal gain. Preachers love to quote Malachi 3:8-10 to guilt trip their flock. For Heaven's sake there are four chapters in Malachi. Read whole book to get the proper context. Jesus did not teach monetary tithing in Matthew chapter 22. He advised Jewish people to obey Jewish Mosaic Law, and rightfully so, as Jesus had not yet fulfilled the entire Law before His crucifixion. Even Gentiles in times of Christ on Earth were not required to observe Jewish Law. Why would they be today? The Apostle Paul never taught us to pay 10% . I would venture to say that God doesn't want 10% of anything. He owns it all and is owed all. Everything we do, including every dollar spent should be to the glory of God. There are many ways to give to God. Many preachers would have you think you can only give to God through them. Not so. I have a direct line to God through His Holy Spirit and can also make direct deposits to God in cash. We should absolutely give generously and sacrificially and our pastors should be able to rely on his flock for a steady stream of income. But its also a pastors job to teach the Word accurately. If he is genuinely called by God to minister to other and he does so with good intentions and accurate doctrine, preachers don't need to fleece the flock by errant teaching of the doctrine of tithing.

No, based on the Christian believes you gotta tithe all your profits.
The (questionable) only way you wouldn't need to tithe is to reinvest to make even more money that you can tithe then.
The reason this is questionable is because if you keep 'reinvesting in order to give a bigger tithe' the question is when you gonna start to tithe then?
The people in need might need money/food/help rather now then later and you don't have to donate your whole profit, only ten percent of it.
So you still have profits which God actually provided you with in first place, since God is the one who owns it all.
So when you tithe and reinvest then, certainly God will give you again big profits of which you tithe and then can reinvest or use for yourself after all.

If you want to use first fruits, everyone would pay 10% of their first check of the year and then keep everything else. But that is not what religion requires... Even in the OT only the first fruit of the harvest was given......and they kept everything else that grew there after.....which was much more than the first harvest. What you want is for everyone to give 10% of ALL FRUIT of the TOTAL HARVEST not only the First.

All of the verses speaking about putting food in store houses and leaving leftover veggies for the poor that are in your field after you harvest, to show that things only grow because of God. They had money when these verses were written, and if it was supposed to be about money it would explicitly say this. Modern churches, from what I can see, are not feeding the poor at all for the most part. For every billionaire/million preacher, thousands go hungry.

Instead of thinking of it as something that’s an obligation, you should think of it as an offering to the Lord. Because that’s what it is. The Bible doesn’t actually command us to tithe like people think. You need to read up on the context on who actually tithed and why. God does not command us today to tithe, BUT He definitely wants us to be generous and joyful givers. The money is not our to begin with, so offerings allow us to not be holding so tight to money. We should steward it well and pay our bills, along with blessing others. Whatever that looks like to you.

Jesus for sure not, but those who suffer like people who have lost their job and probably even home through a crisis and especially those who suffer under wars that are happening in this world.
The tithe isn't for the church to keep it for themselves. The tithe has to go to the poor and in need people.
You can give it to the church in order to give it to the poor for yourself, but the church ain't allowed to keep donations that are noted as tithe.
The church upholds itself through separate donations outside of the tithe. You don't even need a big fancy building to be a church.
A church can be made out of just plain rocks or wooden and has not be highly attractive and expensive.
If people can't or don't give to uphold the church by extra donations you just keep it with a simple church.
Also the tithe is meant to keep yourself humble and clean yourself from sins and keep away bad behavior and help you stay/become a better person.
Also to mention the tithe hasn't to go to any church to provide the poor, when you actually do it yourself.
This way you have two benefits. Firstly you see where/to who the money exactly is going to and secondly that facing real poverty and people in need makes you even more humble and realize how blessed you are.
Imagine you just made 1 Million in profits and now you are able to give away 100T. and giving hundred thousand to a fancy big church might not make you as happy and satisfied while giving, rather then make it feel like a duty.
However if you see somebody with a shotgun wound, who even has lost wife and kids or a child without parents and are able to help them, it makes it way easier to be a cheerful giver.
I have seen people suffering under war and everytime I see them I wish I would have more to give and help.
So of cause it's a huge difference compared to living everyday life in safe heaven and not even recognize poverty and real problems. It just goes under in our own little world.
So yes to give is important, not for Jesus, not for the church, but for those who face horrible conditions we don't want to have even close to us.

Hi Dave. I’m a long time fan of your show and I’d like some advice or your opinion on this situation I have with my parents. I’m 19 and I work full time for a large warehouse company making $30k a year before taxes and have a Roth 401k account. With this new job, my parents brought up the idea of me paying rent to live with them. My question is, should I pay the rent or plan to move out? I’m not in college currently (but plan to in the near future) and my parents live comfortably in a paid off house.
I understand why they asked me but, I think it’s too early since I only had the job for less than 2 months.

In our house, you got the first week's pay to yourself. After that you hand up. I was 15 earning €22.50 a week. The first 5 was for the house. Not because they needed €5, but because I needed to learn wages ain't free money. You've been getting away light is what I'm saying. That said, parent rent shouldn't be like real rent either.

Not even Jesus himself was qualified, accordig to the Mosaic Law, to receive tithes from anyone during his time on earth. When Jesus was on earth the Temple was still intact. Imagine if Jesus had come telling the people to tithe to him and his disciples. As a matter of fact, when Jesus sent out his disciples to preach Jesus specifically told them not to take a purse with them, but into whatever house they entered they were to eat and drink what was put tbefore them. In essence, the ONLY THING that Jesus's disciples could receive from whomever they witnessed to was food and drink.
Not only was Jesus not qualified to receive tithings from anyone, there is no record that either Jesus or his disciples did ever received tithing from anyone. So, if Jesus, his disciples, even Paul, never received tithes from the people nor even qualified to receive tithes from the people, HOW IS IT THAT ANYONE WHO CLAIMS TO BE A FOLLOWER OF JESUS TODAY THINKS THAT HE OR SHE SHOULD RECEIVE TITHES FROM ANYONE?
The Church was established by the Apostles in Acts chapter 2. The Temple was still intact at the time. No one even considered redirecting tithings from the Temple to the newly established Church. As a matter of fact, it was the "haves" within the newly established Church who provided for the "have nots"within the newly established Church. Guess who didn't have their hands out for a handout. Yep! The Apostles did not have their hands out for a handout. In actuality, the Apostles appointed certain persons from among them to distribute necessities to the needy within the newly Church so that the remaining Apostles/disciples would be freed up to go preach the Gospel (on each's own dime, so to speak).
The take home message is that anyone who claims that he is a follower of Jesus Christ and is preaching tithing did not get that message from Jesus, nor the Apostles, and definitely not from God. The question is, who or what rules are these modern day, so-called, christians following when they request, or even demand, tithing from the people? Can you say "the devil"?

Breaking Covenant by Withholding Tithes Malachi 3
6 “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7 Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty.
“But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’
8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.
“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’
“In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse- your whole nation-because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates(AI) of heaven and pour out(AJ) so much blessing(AK) that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe, “says the Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.

I mean we are definitely supposed to be very generous above and beyond. But as a practical matter I do not like when people use Old Testament verses to tie us to certain rules like 10%.
It's okay to acknowledge that using 10% makes it easy and is a good place to start, but to hold versus like Malachi 3 as law is not biblically sound.
    1. We should be very generous. That includes supporting our local church and those in need regularly.
    2. There are no specific rules after how generous a person supposed to be in terms of a numerical value.

The Levites (the church workers) only got 10% of the tithe. In other words, 1%. If you're asking if you should tithe something, you haven't properly learned what tithing is about.
90% of the tithe goes towards the ministry of the church. 10% of the tithe goes to the salaries of the church. Churches that practice tithing seem to consistently forget about the 3rd year among other things.
The tithe is not a legalistic concept. You should be overjoyed in giving. It's also not that we're managing God's wealth. God did the vast majority of the work to generate the wealth you have. You're not giving away your work, you're giving away God's work.

0:00 Before the video starts, NO I Would NOT Tithe on the sale of your home! Tithing is supposed to be on your "Income". If you are earning a paycheck from someone that is your income and that is what you should be paying tithing towards. To be honest I don't believe that you have to pay tithing to get to heaven like most religions bake you believe because there would not be any reason for "Jesus" and the fact that he died for our sins. If he is the "I AM" then he has done it for us and all he wants us to do is "Believe in him that he is our Lord and saver and that he died for our sins and only through him and only him we are saved". The other thing is "If you WANT to tithe vs you HAVE to tithe to get to heaven or to be good with God is one thing over another". If someone doesn't want to give but they do that is a sin if you want to be technical about it.
