How do we know she’s not broody? She seems pretty interested in sitting.
@@cherokeepurple4480 Broody hens avoid roosters and even fight with them. Roosters want to mate with them and broody hens are not interested. Broody hens sound different and pose differently. They puff, are aggressive and do not like any being around them. Chickens show the behaviour you see in this video every day when they want to lay eggs. They feel stressed and spend some time every day searching for the right place. Roosters normally help them in their research. The eyes of broody hens also change and it looks aggressive and redder.
@@s864008 I have a hen who’s constantly broody but I admit I have no roosters. Had to get rid of them. She starts off normal when she zones in on a clutch, starts sitting on the nest more frequently and becomes more puffed up over the next few days. The thing is, she isn’t overly aggressive and lets me pick her up off her nest even though she’s puffed up. She even dust bathed with my other hen yesterday. It wasn’t until she hatched a clutch that she became more aggressive around other chickens if they were too curious about her babies. I’ve also heard of hens taking turns sitting on eggs with a more docile rooster like a Buff Orpington.
